I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 350 - 347: The Broken Sky
Chapter 350: Chapter 347: The Broken Sky
Li Luo picked up the nameplate and studied it for a moment.
Like Mo Ling, she was also curious why the nameplate had changed like this.
But Mo Ling couldn’t give her a definitive answer, so Li Luo had no choice but to put the nameplate back around her neck.
The moment the nameplate settled around her neck, a torrent of memories suddenly flooded her mind.
Family rules, an endless space, a silver blade, a sea of blood...
In that instant, these memories returned to their rightful owner.
Li Luo stood frozen for a moment. Her expression shifted constantly, her eyes flickering between anger and worry, until finally, only a boundless sorrow remained.
She sighed.
"I remember now..."
She gently stroked the Block, the sorrow in her eyes slowly fading.
Before long, Li Luo’s spirits lifted again, as if she had come to terms with everything.
"Are you okay?" Jin Lou asked with concern from the side.
"I’m fine. I just remembered some unpleasant things," Li Luo replied, shaking her head.
She grabbed her nameplate and looked at the Block.
"Since you can retrieve my memories, can you try retrieving other people’s memories too?"
Mo Ling considered it. Looking at the mountain-like pile of black objects inside the Block, it figured it was worth a try.
But just then, something unexpected happened.
A beam of light suddenly pierced the otherwise lightless night.
It cut through the darkness, shining directly onto Li Luo, its focal point the nameplate on her chest.
The nameplate shone brilliantly under the light, reflecting a dazzling glow.
The beam of light remained fixed on Li Luo. Dust from the destroyed safe house still drifted through the air like cotton fluff, illuminated by the beam to resemble twinkling starlight.
Li Luo raised a hand to shield her eyes, squinting for a long while as they adjusted.
She took a step back, but the beam of light followed her as if it were tracking her.
Or rather, it was tracking the nameplate she wore.
After a long time, Li Luo finally adjusted to the brightness. She lowered her hand and looked up along the beam of light.
But that one glance left her frozen in place once more.
"The sky... it cracked?"
Beside her, Jin Lou also looked up at the torn sky.
The crack wasn’t large. It was as if a small hole had been punched through the pitch-black sky, an eye-like opening that stared intently at Li Luo.
As Li Luo moved, the light source within the hole shifted its position, keeping the beam permanently fixed on her.
The relentlessly tracking beam instantly made them both tense. It felt as if something was watching them.
The beam was too bright for them to see the light source behind the hole, which only made it feel all the more unnerving.
Standing in the pillar of light, Li Luo reached out and grasped at the air beside her. She was shocked to discover that everything around her was rapidly disintegrating.
"Follow me."
Li Luo called out to Jin Lou and immediately left the ruined safe house.
The moment she stepped onto the black road, the paving stones began to emit black smoke, as if the light was devouring all darkness.
Li Luo found another black building and let the pillar of light hit its wall. Before long, thick black smoke billowed from the wall, and it rapidly turned to ash.
’It’s not an illusion.’
This light could indeed dispel the darkness.
Seeing this, Jin Lou extended a rod from its mechanical arm and cautiously poked it into the pillar of light.
However, despite its pitch-black body, it was not affected by the light.
"Why? Is it because I don’t belong to Hell Island?" it asked in confusion.
Witnessing this strange scene, they both instinctively looked up at the crack in the sky again.
"We have to go up and see," Li Luo said decisively.
The crack didn’t look very high. To see what was inside, they had to get closer.
"I can fly."
As it spoke, several thrusters popped out from Jin Lou’s back.
"But I can’t carry you. My weight limit is strict." It hopped a few times in place, the thrusters barely managing to keep it hovering in the air.
"No need." Li Luo turned to look at the Block, and Mo Ling instantly understood her meaning.
Riding the Block, Li Luo flew toward the crack, with Jin Lou following close behind.
Just as they thought, the crack wasn’t very high. Before long, they arrived at its entrance.
Being so close, the light was now incredibly blinding, and Li Luo could only shut her eyes.
"We’re here. Let’s go in," Jin Lou said from behind her.
Mo Ling didn’t hesitate, carrying Li Luo straight through the crack.
They emerged from the crack and found themselves on top of a black hill.
Jin Lou also flew out of the crack.
As soon as it was out, it activated its reconnaissance function and scanned its surroundings.
After a moment, it said, its voice trembling slightly, "Did we... arrive *above* Hell Island?"
"Above? What do you mean?" Li Luo took a pair of sunglasses from her bag and put them on. The light was so piercing she couldn’t open her eyes and had no idea what her surroundings were like.
Jin Lou scanned the area again and began to describe it to Li Luo.
"It seems we’re on top of Hell Island’s dome. The ground has a coal-like structure, the sky is made of some kind of glowing stone, and above us is another dome."
"So the white light is shining down from the second dome?"
Jin Lou observed for another moment before replying, "It seems so."
However, the white light here didn’t seem to have a hypnotic effect. It was just extremely glaring, as if it were suppressing something.
Even with sunglasses, Li Luo still couldn’t see clearly. She had to take them off, pull a black cloth from her bag, and blindfold herself.
Though this would completely obscure her vision, she could at least make out some outlines.
To understand her surroundings, Li Luo had no choice but to crouch down and feel the ground with her hands, deciding to experience it through her sense of touch.
The ground was covered in that "coal" that crumbled underfoot. She picked up a piece, and with a slight squeeze, the coal instantly shattered into scattered, fragile fragments.
After crushing several more pieces, Li Luo suddenly realized they had encountered these fragments before.
"This is the source of all those black fragments on Hell Island."
After feeling them with her fingers for a moment, she said to Jin Lou with certainty.
The "coal" left no residue on her hand. After turning into fragments, it disintegrated again shortly after, vanishing without a trace. This property was also very similar to the black fragments on Hell Island.
"What is this stuff? Fragments of memory?" she asked in confusion, pinching a fragment between her fingers.
Jin Lou also extracted some samples from the ground and began analyzing them internally.
"Some kind of carbonized material. Nothing unusual."
"Carbonized what?" Li Luo pressed.
"Carbonized life forms. All kinds of them—fish, shellfish, primates, birds... you name it. They’re all mixed together. There are also some unidentifiable organisms, probably species unique to the Abyss."
Hearing Jin Lou’s explanation, Li Luo nodded, lost in thought.
She continued to search the ground, grabbing the carbonized material and crushing it into fragments.
With her vision obscured, this was the only way she could understand the current situation.
The black fragments here didn’t seem to carry memories like the ones on Hell Island, and Li Luo didn’t sense anything strange about them.
’It’s like crushing cookies,’ a peculiar thought rose in her mind.
However, just as she was about to stand up, her fingers closed around something different.
