Chapter 349: Chapter 346: Lucky Block

"What do you mean? Mommy?" the little girl asked anxiously, rushing to the woman and gripping her hand.

A drop of crimson blood dripped from the silver blade in the man’s hand. His cold voice spoke again:

"Life fee, one hundred million giant Blocks, payment successful."

"Love fee, one hundred million and one giant Blocks, payment successful."

"Freedom fee, two hundred million and one giant Blocks, purchase complete."

After speaking these strange words, the man’s grip on the silver blade suddenly loosened. It fell to the ground, and his hands began to tremble.

Then, he whipped his head around to look at the little girl.

The little girl had never seen such a look in her father’s eyes. It was utterly hopeless, filled with utter hatred. The flames of hell seemed to burn in his pitch-black eyes, ready to devour her in the next second.

The man suddenly bent down, picked up the knife, and rushed toward the little girl.

But just then, the air around him surged. An invisible box seemed to appear beside the man, selecting his arm.

Instantly, the arm holding the knife was severed at the shoulder, leaving only a smooth cut.

The man lost his balance and fell to the ground. He raised his head and gave the still-shocked little girl a deep look.

"Escape fee, one micro Block."

After he said this, a door suddenly appeared in the metal floor beneath him, and he fell through it at the same moment.

By the time the little girl snapped out of her daze, the man’s figure had vanished, and the door on the floor was gradually fading away.

"You found it," the woman said with relief, squeezing the little girl’s hand.

"Found what?"

The little girl was frantic, not knowing what to do.

"You found the lucky Block," the woman answered. "I told you before, Blocks bring good fortune."

Although the woman’s voice was growing weaker, she still smiled gently, showing no pain.

"That was it just now, wasn’t it? The lucky Block."

The woman looked around the little girl curiously, as if searching for something.

But the little girl only held her mother’s hand in a daze, watching as the life faded from her.

Blood spread further and further across the silver metal floor. The woman’s face grew paler, and her breathing slowly became shallow.

The woman used her last ounce of strength to hum a soft song.

She caressed the little girl’s face and let the girl rest in her arms.

The simple melody began to echo in the little girl’s ears.

"Little block, fly and fly, over the forest, over the sea."

"Lost in dreams, lost in love..."

"The lofty people, spin and spin, for desire, for wealth."

"Into the abyss, into disaster..."

"..."

The woman’s humming grew softer and softer, until the words became indistinct.

The little girl closed her eyes, letting darkness spread before her. The red blood flowed more and more, submerging the entire silvery-white expanse.

The warm blood crept up the little girl’s ankles, then slowly submerged her body until it was over her head, enveloping her in a lukewarm ocean.

A sudden, uncontrollable feeling of suffocation washed over him.

Mo Ling instantly collapsed to the ground. The nameplate in his hand flew out, colliding with the severed arm on the floor.

The black fragments on the nameplate swarmed like dense insects, crawling onto the arm and slowly covering it completely.

Like a colony of ants, they frantically devoured the entire arm. They didn’t even spare the silver blade, and they consumed every last drop of blood on the metal floor.

Once everything related to the arm was devoured, the black fragments shattered and dissipated, leaving not a single trace.

The nameplate that had fallen to the ground was restored to its original state. The rust and stains were completely gone, the strange blackness had faded away entirely, and clear characters reappeared on its surface.

"Third-level Hunter, Fire Thief Li Luo."

The engraved characters were incredibly sharp and faintly glowed.

It took Mo Ling a long time to recover from the feeling of suffocation.

Just as Jin Lou had said, the corrosive nature of this memory was too strong, and Mo Ling couldn’t pull himself out of it for a long time.

The little girl’s experience wasn’t particularly dramatic; it was very mundane. Her mood didn’t change much until the very end, when she arrived in that silver space.

Because she was so young, she couldn’t understand what those images meant.

Her father’s knife, the bleeding wound on her mother, and that bizarre, endless silver space.

The sea of blood... back then, in her innocence, she had no time to process any of it.

Only when Mo Ling pulled himself out of the memory did the pain truly descend upon him.

Like death by a thousand cuts, the memories replayed endlessly in Mo Ling’s mind, flashing before his eyes.

The endless, silvery-white space behind the door, the warm blood that submerged everything... for a moment, Mo Ling couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t.

Mo Ling wanted to know what happened next, but the memory cut off abruptly, stopping at the most suffocating moment.

’Li Luo never seemed to talk about her past before.’

To Mo Ling, Li Luo had always been an enigma.

She never told anyone why she wanted to go to the bottom of the abyss, nor did she ever speak of her past.

Always calm, always polite.

The only exception was when they first arrived in the abyss. When Station Chief Liang from the monitoring station mentioned she looked like her father, she had shown a rare lapse in composure.

Now, Mo Ling was beginning to understand why.

Mo Ling took a deep breath, walked forward, and picked up the restored nameplate.

’It changed back...’

The black fragments had vanished completely. The nameplate now looked just as it did when Li Luo originally carried it.

’Why did it change?’

Mo Ling thought for a moment and finally came up with a possibility—he had interfered with the contents of the memory.

In previous memories, he had never tried to use his teleportation ability.

But just now, in Li Luo’s memory, he had used his teleportation ability to sever her father’s arm and send it into the Block to protect the young Li Luo. And that severed arm had been completely devoured by the fragments from the black nameplate.

The situation had been critical, and Mo Ling had activated his teleportation subconsciously. He never expected that it could actually affect the contents of a memory and cause such a strange result.

’I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.’

After a moment’s thought, Mo Ling extended his vision outward.

The nameplate in his hand vanished instantly, reappearing on top of the Block.

He returned the nameplate to Li Luo.

Li Luo stared at the returned nameplate on the Block, utterly astonished.

"You changed it back? How did you do that?"
