Chapter 340: Chapter 337: Birth

"Lin Nian, are you okay?"

The Researcher’s expression grew increasingly suspicious.

He picked up a nearby tablet, apparently about to notify someone.

Mo Ling had no choice but to reach out and stop him.

"I’m fine."

As Mo Ling spoke, the words came out in a gentle female voice—it was Lin Nian’s.

Seeing this, the Researcher breathed a sigh of relief. "I thought there was an accident with the experiment. You really need to do something about the shape of this massager. Just looking at it scares me."

He pointed at the brain on the lab bench, his expression full of disgust.

"But, it’s the part you’re in charge of, so I won’t interfere. It’s just a suggestion."

He shrugged, pushed open the main door, and left the lab, leaving Mo Ling still trying to process everything.

’A massager?’

Mo Ling looked toward the lab bench and saw a slender hand resting on a brain. Next to the brain was a tablet displaying information about it:

"Bionic Massager."

"A new type of massager created by utilizing the power of the Relic ’Patch’ to apply human bio-current data as a patch onto a mouse’s brain."

"Through touch, it can adjust a person’s bio-currents, inducing a feeling of ’comfort’."

"Manufactured by Yuanxin Technology’s Third Laboratory. Person in charge: Lin Nian."

Besides this basic information, there were also some jumbled experiment logs containing video files. Mo Ling scrolled to the very beginning and opened a folder named "Birth."

Inside was footage of the bionic massager’s first creation:

The mouse’s brain expanded continuously, eventually transforming into an aggregate of electrical currents shaped like a human brain. Gasps of alarm could be heard from off-camera.

"How did it turn into this? It’s so disgusting."

"The human biological data must have affected it. Don’t panic. It’s not like we’re doing human experiments."

"We have to find a way. No one would dare use a product like this. Our main focus from now on will be to change it into a more acceptable shape."

...

Flipping through these experiment logs, Mo Ling discovered that most of the experiments were attempts to change the bionic massager’s shape, but all of them had ended in failure.

The bionic massager seemed stubbornly attached to its "brain" form, even though it was now just a mass of electrical currents that could theoretically take any shape.

After finishing the experiment logs, Mo Ling looked at the brain on the lab bench again.

He gently placed his hand on it, and the soft sensation returned.

But this time, Mo Ling didn’t stop. With a push, his palm sank directly into the brain, like pushing through a soft piece of Jell-O.

A tingling current enveloped Mo Ling’s palm and crawled up his arm. The sensation was so exquisite that Mo Ling felt an impulse to leave his hand inside it forever.

Realizing the strangeness of this impulse, Mo Ling quickly pulled his hand out.

The brain instantly returned to its original form, lying quietly on the lab bench without the slightest trace of being damaged.

’It really is some kind of aggregate of currents, just mimicking the appearance of a brain.’

Mo Ling confirmed the contents of the experiment report.

Just as he was pondering the brain’s strange properties, there was a sudden knock on the lab door. A young female Researcher pushed it open and cautiously poked her head in.

"Sister Lin, the parts have arrived. Should I leave them at the door?"

Only then did Mo Ling notice the female Researcher was pulling a small cart behind her, laden with all sorts of robot parts.

"Bring it in."

"Okay."

The female Researcher pushed the cart into the lab, placed it next to the bench, and shot a furtive glance at the brain on the bench before hastily scurrying out.

Mo Ling quickly looked at the cart and saw only a few simple components on it.

’The vessel experiment...’

He recalled the experiment logs. In them, Lin Nian and the other Researchers had discussed one particular method:

Instead of changing the bionic massager’s shape, they would utilize its "human-machine interface" properties to place the brain-like aggregate of currents into another vessel, such as the intelligent machinery that was the pride of Yuanxin Technology.

This way, they could prevent customers from seeing the disgusting brain while still delivering the "massage" function through a robot.

It was like loading a "massage module" onto an intelligent robot.

Mo Ling looked at the brain on the lab bench and the mechanical components on the cart, and a strange thought suddenly occurred to him:

’This is how the sixth-generation intelligent machinery was born?’

’It all started... as a massager?’

On some strange impulse, Mo Ling moved the few components onto the lab bench.

The vessel experiment was simple. It only required assembling the modular components and then placing the brain in a specific location, just like a building block game.

There was a detailed assembly diagram on the cart. Mo Ling only needed to glance at it to completely understand its contents.

It wasn’t until everything was assembled and only the final step remained that Mo Ling suddenly snapped back to his senses.

’Why can I understand this?’

He picked up the assembly diagram again and studied it carefully. It included not only how the components connected but also pictures, component names, and important notes. It was extremely detailed. When Mo Ling first saw it, he really had thought of it as just "assembling building blocks."

But looking at the assembly diagram now, a clear realization dawned on Mo Ling: with his own intellect, he shouldn’t have been able to understand this diagram at all.

It was a crystal-clear realization. Though it was a little embarrassing, Mo Ling was well aware of his own capabilities.

’It seems Lin Nian’s memories are still influencing me.’

His current body belonged to Lin Nian, a Researcher at Yuanxin Technology, so it was only natural that he could understand this stuff.

In any case, the parts were finally assembled.

A robotic torso, stripped of its arms and legs, now lay on the lab bench.

Without the exaggerated mechanical limbs, the robot looked about the same size as a normal human body.

On the left side of its chest was an open cavity. This was the spot for the brain.

Mo Ling took a deep breath, carefully cradled the soft brain, and placed it in the robot’s chest.

The brain quivered a few times, then suddenly dissolved into a bolt of electricity that shot into the robot’s body. A moment later, the robot’s head began to glow red.

The mechanical head twitched and turned to look at Mo Ling.

Mo Ling, who had been watching the robot intently, met its gaze. In that instant, he felt that what lay before him was not a machine, but a living person.

His hair stood on end. It was an instinctual recognition of his own kind; Mo Ling could clearly sense the presence of life.

The atmosphere in the laboratory suddenly grew oppressive.

Mo Ling stood beside the lab bench, his breathing growing heavier.

The robot on the lab bench did nothing, said nothing. It just lay there, silently staring at the human who had created it.

A long moment passed.

Finally, a mechanical voice, tinged with a slight electronic buzz, emerged from the robot:

"You are not her."
