Chapter 337: Chapter 334: The Determined Future

The black fragments swirled again. It seemed the Prophet wanted Li Luo and Jin Lou to also see the "predestined fate" she spoke of.

Within the black smoke before them, a scene slowly materialized.

...

The Prophet, or rather, the memory construct of Lin Nian, had long known that Hell Island was not normal.

Because most of the humans on this island had no self-awareness.

But the Prophet was an exception. She possessed reason and the ability to think for herself.

She tried to communicate with those humans, but it was like talking to a brick wall; she received no response.

However, she discovered that some of the other races on the island would occasionally have individuals with simple intelligence, such as—the Inheritor.

The Inheritor would go around the island, looking for beings to read to, regardless of whether they were human or from another race. After it finished reading the contents of its strange books, it would answer any questions posed to it.

The Prophet spent a long time learning the language of the Walrus Race, and she slowly began to understand the Inheritor’s "stories."

She also began to ask the Inheritor questions:

"What is the relationship between Hell Island and the Hell Beast?"

"Why are all the creatures on this island so mindless and muddled?"

"Why doesn’t she know her own origins?"

No matter what question she asked, the Inheritor would answer her in great detail. That was how she learned about Hell Island.

"Hell Island is located inside the Hell Beast’s lair," the Inheritor told her.

This place was the final destination of all destruction. The beings here were all memory constructs, fabricated by the Hell Beast after it destroyed a creature’s memories. They were incomplete, which was why they were all mindless and muddled—including the Inheritor itself.

Because they were all just fragments of memory, of course they didn’t know their origins; it was as if they had appeared out of thin air.

After hearing the Inheritor’s answer, the Prophet fell into despair. She couldn’t believe such a truth. So, she asked the Inheritor how she could escape this place.

The Inheritor told her that all they needed was to be expelled, and they could return to the real world. But they inherently belonged here, a part of Hell Island, and could not be expelled.

"How does one get expelled?" she pressed.

"Destruction is expulsion," the Inheritor replied.

After hearing the Inheritor’s words, she saw a vision of the future:

Her future self killed every single creature on Hell Island, slaughtering them all. But twelve hours later, those creatures reappeared on Hell Island as if nothing had ever happened.

The Prophet knew of her own abilities, but she refused to accept this fate and had to try it for herself.

She didn’t follow the path of slaughter from her vision. She even destroyed the entire island. But twelve hours later, everything reappeared, and the island she had utterly annihilated was restored to its original state.

The prophecy came true. The future hadn’t changed at all. After all that, it had just circled back to its original track.

Just then, the Prophet saw another vision of the future:

Her future self built a robot factory, using knowledge from her own memories to produce many robots. She wanted to try using these machines that "did not belong to Hell Island" to kill all the humans on the island.

After seeing this future, the Prophet quickly realized this was a method worth trying. And indeed, within her limited memories, she did have the knowledge of how to produce such robots.

Sixth-generation intelligent machinery. For some reason, the production process for these robots was firmly etched into her mind.

However, she had no intention of following the prophecy.

She strongly resisted this inexplicably acquired ability. She believed this strange "identity" and "ability" were deeply connected to Hell Island, and she didn’t want to use them carelessly.

However, the next prophecy disrupted her plans.

She saw that in the future, Hell Island would fall into chaos. The mindless Black Shadows would become increasingly crazed, and their powers would grow stronger and stronger...

The situation on Hell Island was not something she could put off indefinitely, as she had thought.

Although she wanted to escape Hell Island, a more chaotic situation would only make things more complicated.

She racked her brain but couldn’t think of any other way.

Her mind was a complete blank; aside from the manufacturing process for those robots, she couldn’t think of anything else.

’Having a robot army that doesn’t belong to Hell Island could, at the very least, handle the chaos on this island.’

The Prophet compromised. She built a robot factory and, following the steps from her memory, began to produce sixth-generation intelligent machinery, assembling a robot army.

She activated this batch of robots and kept them in the factory, just in case.

The Prophet didn’t know when the chaos on the island would begin, so all she could do was wait.

During this time, some of the mindless humans would wander into the factory, and she could only have the robots take them away.

This went on for a long time. The prophesied chaos still hadn’t occurred, and the robots in the factory had been idle for a long time.

Looking at this army that hadn’t moved once since its creation, the Prophet could no longer hold back.

’First, let’s see if these things that don’t belong to the island can eliminate the humans.’

The thought surfaced in the Prophet’s mind.

Her own power was immense—she could even destroy an entire island by herself. But she knew she inherently belonged to Hell Island, that everything was under Hell Island’s control. The humans she eliminated would just reappear twelve hours later.

But these robots were different. They were things from outside Hell Island.

To this end, she had even asked the Inheritor if something that didn’t belong to Hell Island could expel the island’s humans. The Inheritor had given her an affirmative answer.

’Perhaps these robots can bring about a change.’

With this in mind, she issued a command to her robot army:

"All units, deploy. Eliminate all humans on Hell Island."

The command was very vague, with no specific measures. This was, in fact, a deliberate choice by the Prophet.

She wanted to see what method these robots would find to destroy these "immortal" humans.

However, things were not as simple as she had imagined.

Her memory was incomplete and full of gaps, causing her to forget one thing—the Iron Laws of Robotics.

"A robot may not injure a human being."

This was a brand imprinted in the robots’ data, an absolutely unchangeable rule.

The deployed robot army was not only unable to act against the island’s humans, but it also fell into an endless command conflict.

Caught between their creator’s command and the Iron Laws of Robotics, many robots went into shutdown. Only a portion of them managed to bypass the command, but they also completely lost their ability to confront humans.

After the robots from the factory swarmed out, not only were the island’s humans unharmed, but they were provoked into an even greater frenzy.

They went from a state of mindless wandering to suddenly becoming extremely aggressive, starting to attack the robots the Prophet had sent out. All of Hell Island descended into even greater chaos.

Moreover, as Hell Island fell into chaos, the abilities of those humans grew stronger and stronger—some to the point that even the Prophet could not suppress them.

Looking at this turbulent situation, the Prophet suddenly realized:

It seemed the prophecy had come true again.

She had unconsciously thought and acted along the predestined track once more.

Nothing had changed. No matter how she struggled, the future would always return to its proper course. Her so-called free will had been completely useless.

The Prophet fell deeper into despair.

Yet, at that very moment, she saw a new future:

A human who did not belong to Hell Island had appeared.
