I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 141: One of the Five Strongest Witches
"Come here." Titus called Magna over, and when he approached, he suddenly grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up.
While Magna was caught off guard by the sudden attack, their bodies began sinking into the ground, then disappeared, leaving a large patch of ice behind.
Darkness only covered Magna’s vision for a second or two. When his vision returned, he was already inside Celeste’s study, slowly rising from the floor.
"How does this spell actually work?" It was, without a doubt, the best spell he had witnessed so far.
He already knew that all Shadows who made contracts had the ability to use shadows to move around.
He just wasn’t sure how they gained this ability.
Celeste, sitting at her desk while holding a paper with a gold Tower insignia on it, chuckled at his question.
"You can learn that later by reading that book." She simply pointed to one of the books on the shelf.
Magna had been too busy raising his stats to find much time to read books.
Even when he found some free time, he was usually either eating or being forced to play with Faye.
Whenever he picked up a book and tried to read, he would fall asleep after a few lines from exhaustion.
Still, he walked over and took the book from the shelf, though he probably wouldn’t find the time to read it anyway. He then sat on the couch with Titus and waited to hear why he had been called.
"First of all, congratulations. The Tower accepted our temporary donation request." Celeste gave them the good news.
Magna also felt relieved. He had started to consider the possibility of their rejection when the reply took this long.
If they rejected the request and instead insisted that the Winterbornes sell Magna to them, it would become quite a problem for him as well.
"For how long will it be?" Titus was also quite interested in the matter.
For Witches who went there for training, there was usually no actual time limit. They would stay in the Tower for as long as their mentor deemed necessary.
Some could be sent away in just 1 or 2 months if they failed to show enough talent, while others could stay for years, so it was difficult to predict how long Faye would stay.
Celeste sighed at that. "That’s the tricky part of the letter. There is no specified time duration."
"Is it bad?" Magna asked this time.
"It can actually be good or bad, depending on the situation," Celeste explained. "It means they want to keep you for as long as they need. At the same time, we still have the final say. We can call you back whenever we want."
Magna could understand both the good and bad sides of it.
The bad side was that the Tower could keep him there forever since they hadn’t specified a time limit.
The good part was that the Winterbornes would still be his owners, which meant they could take him back if they provided a good enough excuse.
Of course, that depended on whether the Tower accepted that excuse.
"They probably want to use you as a scholar there. They may even train you to become a researcher or adviser. They always value intelligent people."
Celeste was sure that Magna’s ideas about how Shadows cast spells, as well as his golden eyes, had made a great impact in this regard.
Of course, there was another reason for her thinking this, as she said with a voice full of awe.
"The letter is directly from the Head of the Chamber of Spell Constructs. She is also one of the 5 Grand Witches of the Tower. If she directly sent a letter, it means she has taken special interest in you."
She took a deep breath before adding, "You must know first that she is one of the 5 strongest Witches in this world."
It was the first time Celeste had received a direct letter from one of the strongest beings in the entire Witch World.
Receiving such a letter made Celeste feel both important and insignificant at the same time.
Meanwhile, Magna’s mind was focused on what such a powerful Witch might look like. An image of a very old woman appeared in his mind.
’She must be very old, right?’ he thought, since he had been measuring the power balance of this world by age for some time.
Again, Witches usually looked quite young for their age, so there was still a chance she would look young. But that wasn’t the only thing that crossed his mind.
Apart from her age, getting in contact this quickly, even through words, with one of the strongest characters in this world was quite a fast development.
’Why do I feel like I’m a main character inside a fast-paced novel?’ he even wondered.
"So when will I be going?"
Seeing how eager he was, Celeste also felt relieved, since she didn’t want him to feel pressured or tense about the matter.
"There is no information about that either, but it looks like they will send someone specifically to pick you up."
It was quite interesting. They were the kind to plan on taking Faye and Renna together to save manpower and time, yet for Magna, who was at the same place, they apparently decided to send someone else.
It was almost like they were giving him VIP treatment.
Of course, for it to be true VIP treatment, it would have been better if they had also told him the exact time.
Those were Magna’s thoughts until Celeste gave him the truly important information written in the letter.
"There is also an important part in the letter. It’s not that it would change or decide anything, but it looks like they want you to take a trial before going to the Tower."
"A trial? Weren’t those only for Witches?" Titus knitted his brows in confusion.
"They are." Celeste seemed to share the same confusion. Even she couldn’t understand the reason for this request.
"There is no information about what kind of trial it would be. It only says that someone will come to pick you up and give you your trial. There is no mention of whether you are expected to pass or fail. As soon as you complete it, they will take you to the Tower."
There was indeed no meaning behind it, making them wonder why.
Still, the letter had been sent on behalf of a Grand Witch, so they could only accept it as it was.
In the end, someone of her standing must have had a reason for planning something like this.
"Maybe they want to force me to show my capabilities?" Magna asked, since that seemed like the most reasonable explanation.
"That’s also what I thought." Celeste agreed with him.
After all, through her reports, she had already told the Tower quite a bit about Magna, especially about his 3 known bloodline traits. Two of them increased his physical strength and allowed him to think and fight calmly, while the third was related to his golden eyes.
If the Grand Witch believed he might have other traits she didn’t know about, then the trial was probably meant to make him show them before he arrived at the Tower.
In the end, the best way to get to know a man was to put him in a difficult situation and see how he managed to survive.
