I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 140: My Growth Defies the Heavens
After Melisandre left, everything returned to normal for the Winterborne Family.
A week quickly passed without any major problems. It was even quite peaceful.
Magna also healed quite fast, which shocked him, only later learning that the spells Melisandre used to wound him were something special, meant not to kill but only to check the durability of one’s body.
Rowena and Renna also left the mansion after that event and returned to their territory, not wanting to leave it empty for much longer.
The fight between the two alliances was already inevitable, with both sides making their moves in the shadows, so everyone had to be prepared when the time came.
Another reason why they decided to return was that the reply they had been expecting from the 18th Trial Witch, Eva Ernst, had arrived and was positive.
After it was confirmed that Renna would go to the Tower as her disciple, Rowena decided to teach her everything she could before she left so she would be prepared when she arrived there.
Another message also came from the 19th Trial Witch, Vanessa Ives, aka Witch of the Rime-Blight, formally offering her mentorship to Faye.
While Celeste and Titus felt incredible happiness from that, they also couldn’t hide their worries as ordinary parents would.
Faye was still too young to leave home for such a long time, and she wasn’t yet brilliant enough to survive on her own.
But knowing it was an opportunity too big to miss, they also started preparing her for the years she would spend in the Tower.
According to the letters, 10 days later, the Tower would send someone to take her and Renna, so they had only that much time left to spend with their families and learn everything they could.
The only thing left was the expected letter about Magna, which surprised everyone quite a lot.
There was neither a rejection letter nor an acceptance letter, as if he had been completely forgotten.
Magna was probably the only one who wasn’t thinking about it that much, as he only focused on his stat-increasing training.
Sometimes training with Titus, sometimes using the maids for his invented games, he was steadily increasing his stats.
Standing in the middle of the training ground with his two short swords, he took his stance as he looked at the giant man standing in front of him.
Titus had also started using weapons while facing him, as there was a greatsword as tall as the boy himself in his hands while he waited for Magna to make his move.
"I will counterattack this time, so be careful." He raised his greatsword, pointing its tip directly at the boy.
Though the greatsword had no sharp edges and looked more like a long iron bar, it was still as deadly as any weapon in the hands of a beast like him.
Magna nodded in acknowledgment as he instantly kicked the ground, his body slightly blurring as he moved with insane speed.
Even his steps had improved insanely during the past week.
He now stepped onto the dirt at such an angle and with so little force that even the sound of his footsteps was barely audible. The dirt beneath his feet didn’t even rise into the air, making it seem as if he were flying over it.
He could now hold his two weapons, each weighing about as much as an average adult villager, much more comfortably. It was as if he didn’t feel their weight at all, treating them like an ordinary pair of daggers.
In a split second, he was already in front of the tip of the greatsword as he abruptly stopped there. Then, kicking the ground, he suddenly changed his direction.
Titus, still following him with his eyes, moved his greatsword as well to catch the boy as he tried to approach his blind spot.
He didn’t move his greatsword like he always did to defend himself this time, but to attack.
The air split forcefully as the weapon tore through it, creating a loud whoosh that echoed around them as it directly aimed for Magna’s body.
Even without a sharp edge, it was positioned at an angle and carried enough force that, if it hit him, it would surely tear apart his small body like a car hitting him.
But Magna didn’t even blink at the huge iron mass coming toward him. He simply positioned one of his short swords in front of himself and directly met the incoming attack.
BANG!
The moment the huge iron mass collided with the short sword, a loud impact rang out, sending dust and dirt into the air from the force of the collision.
Titus suddenly felt his greatsword resist his strength. It abruptly stopped as if it had struck something solid.
Magna, meanwhile, didn’t even budge slightly. He easily held it in place with just 1 sword, completely blocking it.
Titus laughed. "A little more than a week ago, you almost died from just half of this strength. Now look at you."
Magna let out a bitter smile at the memory.
He remembered genuinely believing that one blow had amputated his arms on the spot.
His progress since then had been nothing short of extraordinary.
He also checked his current stats from the corner of his eye, feeling satisfied by seeing that growth represented in numbers.
Strength: 88 - 196
Agility: 53 - 148
Reaction: 48 - 137
Stamina: 155 - 215
Mana: 78%
Though his stats kept rising every day, the higher they got, the slower their growth became. Still, each one had nearly tripled.
He could now clearly say that, if compared to an ordinary experienced hunter, he was probably around 20 times stronger physically.
Now he was only curious about what his stats would look like when compared to other Shadows or Shadow candidates around his age.
The only thing increasing painfully slowly was his mana reserve, but that was expected.
The only visible change he had been seeing each day was thanks to his passive mana regeneration trait, along with the pills and foods Celeste gave him from time to time. Without them, his mana would probably have stayed below 50%.
If he relied only on his natural mana regeneration, he estimated that he would reach 100% in 4 or 5 days, which was good enough.
"Come, one more." Titus raised his giant sword again, this time planning to use a little more strength to push him further.
Magna also prepared for the attack, not feeling tired enough to take a break yet.
But before they could continue, the head maid Victoria’s voice came from outside the training ground, calling out to them.
"Young Lord. Lady Celeste is asking for you in her study."
The two suddenly stopped as they looked at each other for a second, understanding what it meant.
The message from the Tower they had been expecting for so long had probably finally arrived.
