I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World

Chapter 135: Are You Someone Extraordinary?

  • Next Chapter

Vanessa Ives, also known as the Witch of the Rime-Blight, was a 19th Trial Witch Magna already knew about her from a book he had read before.

She was the very Witch known for having extremely biased, sexist thoughts about men, even to the point of thinking they were created just to become slaves for women.

Unfortunately, she was also Faye’s idol, who grew up hearing stories about her.

It seemed Renna also knew this person as she looked at her with her mouth open. "Are you sure? I didn’t know she had a disciple at all."

Vanessa Ives was a well-known Witch in society, especially among the younger generation, like a legend.

The stories about her fighting a real Dragon were especially famous, with bards even writing songs about them in villages and children hearing them as bedtime stories.

She was for sure not the strongest Witch in the Tower, but she was definitely one of the most famous ones.

What especially made her this famous was her age. According to the gossip, she wasn’t even in her 50s but was already a 19th Trial Witch.

"Lady Melisandre is her only disciple, so I will be the second if I go." Faye proudly raised her chin as she said it.

She looked so happy and proud that Magna couldn’t bring himself to say anything that might make her feel bad.

He could only hope she wouldn’t turn into one of those men-hating fanatics.

"Lucky you." Renna murmured as she grabbed a piece of food from the trolley and suddenly stuffed it into Magna’s mouth.

Magna wasn’t prepared for it and was surprised for a moment, but he still started chewing, since he never said no to food, no matter what.

But he also realized that she looked like she was feeling quite bittersweet jealousy.

She couldn’t be blamed for it. She was already in her 20s and a 5th Trial Witch, while Faye wasn’t even 10 yet, and her future had suddenly changed with an offer to become a powerful Witch’s disciple.

On the other hand, Rowena had to write a letter to the Tower to an 18th Trial Witch, asking her to consider accepting her granddaughter as a disciple.

The difference between them was like heaven and earth. One looked like she was begging, while the other had been chosen.

Faye, seeing the way Renna was feeding him, couldn’t quite catch her feelings or emotions. She just thought it was funny, so she also took a few pieces of food from the trolley and started stuffing his mouth with them, looking quite amused as she giggled.

Magna also didn’t reject the extra hands, as this way he was eating faster.

In the middle of it all, another knock on the door made them stop.

With permission, the door opened again, and the person who came in was once again Head Maid Victoria.

But this time, it wasn’t for Faye, as she said, "Young Lady Renna. You are wanted in the study room."

"Me?" Renna asked in surprise, not expecting it.

She turned to Faye with questioning eyes, "Is Lady Melisandre still there?"

Faye nodded. "She was there when I was leaving, speaking with my mother and your grandmother."

This made Renna’s surprise turn into tension, as most likely, the reason she was being called was that Melisandre wanted to see her.

There was no way to reject the call anyway, so she got up, first went to the bathroom to wash her hands, then left the room, leaving only a few words behind on her way out.

"He’s in your care for a while."

While a mischievous smile appeared on Faye’s face, Magna looked at her and felt that something bad was about to happen.

—

Renna walked through the corridor at a pace that was neither too fast nor too slow, her mind racing more with every step that brought her closer to the study room.

She could feel the tension starting to make her sweat.

It wasn’t just that she was about to face a high Trial Witch. It was also that the reason for her call was probably the letter Rowena had sent.

Soon, she turned the corner and saw Celeste and Rowena patiently waiting in front of the study room’s door.

"Lady Celeste, Grandmother, why are you two waiting here?" she asked in surprise.

Rowena answered her with her brow slightly creased. "She wants to speak with you alone."

If anyone else had made her wait at the door like this, Rowena would probably have already started burning the place down in anger. But when it came to a Witch two Trials above her, the only thing she could do was accept it with slight annoyance.

"Why does she want to see me?" Renna asked, still quite confused.

This time, Celeste answered with a warm smile. "Probably about the letter your grandmother sent to the Tower. You don’t need to be stressed. Just answer her questions and show her the activation method you’ve been practicing."

Even though she was telling her not to be stressed, Renna felt her heart beating faster.

She still nodded as she took a deep breath and opened the door, stepping inside.

When she entered, Melisandre, with her dark blue, wide Witch hat hiding half of her face and her pitch-black hair tied into a ponytail behind her, was sitting at the study desk reading a book.

"Come inside," she called without taking her eyes off the book.

Renna stepped inside, closing the door behind her as she moved to stand in front of the desk.

"Lady Melisandre," she greeted her with a polite bow.

The Witch didn’t even acknowledge her greeting and simply kept reading without looking at her.

Several minutes passed like that. Renna waited there silently while Melisandre’s only movement was turning the pages.

Only when Renna’s annoyance started reaching its limit did Melisandre finally raise her emerald eyes to look at her.

"You indeed can control your anger better than your grandmother," she said with a chuckle as she put the book on the table.

Renna didn’t answer. She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, a bad and disrespectful word would come out, so she decided to stay silent.

Melisandre didn’t seem to care about her silence as she calmly continued speaking. "I received a mission from Lady Eva a while ago. She asked me to look into someone here, to determine whether the girl was worth considering."

Eva Ernst was the 18th Trial Witch whom Rowena had sent the letter to, asking her to consider taking Renna as her disciple.

As she was someone with high authority and power, it wasn’t reasonable to expect her to come here personally, so she simply gave the mission to Melisandre.

Unfortunately, Melisandre clearly wasn’t pleased with the extra mission she had been given.

She opened her mouth and said, not even hiding her displeasure in her voice or words, "The only thing I can see is someone incredibly ordinary. Do you have anything extraordinary about you that I can’t see?"

She obviously wasn’t going to offer this 5th trial Witch the same kindness and patience she gave Faye.
