I'm Crushing on Gorgeous Faces in Variety Shows!
Chapter 905 - 904: What Other Show Formats Do You Want to See?
Guan Yu touched her nose and stayed out of this topic.
"Alright, alright, can we focus on answering the question? Let’s see, who’s actually the publicly acknowledged king of staying up late here."
Li Yang: "That’s definitely me. I almost never go to bed before dawn, sometimes I even pull all-nighters."
Guan Yu calmly said, "By that logic I’m about the same. I sleep in the middle of the night, and if I can’t fall asleep I’ll stay up all night too."
Mu Qiu: "Then by that logic I’m no match for you guys. I rarely pull all-nighters at night. Creating is literally burning my life force—if I really pulled all-nighters all the time, I’d be bald already."
"Then it’s me. I’m very confident about this."
Having suffered a few losses earlier, Li Yang immediately shouted at the director, "I vote for myself!"
Only after that did he turn around to ask Shi Yuhuai and Cheng Zhirang behind him, "Brother Cheng, Brother Huai, how about voting for me?"
Both of them nodded.
Mu Qiu and Shu Ran whispered a couple of words with Guan Yu, then Guan Yu took the lead and voted for Mu Qiu.
"I personally think I’m better at staying up late than Mu Qiu, but this is about picking what the audience voted for, right? Everyone knows novelists are masters at staying up late."
Mu Qiu nodded in front: "Vote for me!"
The director smiled and announced the audience vote result.
"The champion of staying up late, chosen by the audience, is—D, Brother Cheng."
Mu Qiu turned to stone.
Why did the audience vote for Cheng Zhirang? He’s someone with a very regular routine, and even when he’s filming, after talking things over with the crew, he rarely shoots night scenes. ’Early to bed, early to rise’ was practically made for him.
So why pick him?
Because he’s started having a night life...
The reason behind this answer was way too embarrassing. Mu Qiu tried her best to straighten her back and keep her expression neutral, putting on a very "this has nothing to do with me, don’t get the wrong idea" proper face.
This absolutely cannot be dug into. Cannot be aired, cannot be aired.
Cheng Zhirang himself was also shaken by this answer. He ignored the strange looks landing on him, glanced over in Mu Qiu’s direction, then lowered his head and coughed.
"So that means both sides lost."
Guan Yu held back a laugh: "Yep, both sides lost. Time for a free-for-all, kicking people into the water?"
The ropes under their swan boats were all in the other team’s hands. Now they yanked the ropes tight, dragging each other’s boats closer until everyone could reach the other side with their hands. Then they let go and let the ropes sink into the water.
Mu Qiu had already wrapped her arms tightly around the swan’s neck, switching from a straddle position to sitting sideways, both legs pointing toward the neighboring boat, just waiting for the game to start so she could kick them all straight into the water.
The others were ready as well. Guan Yu even had both hands raised in mid-air, glaring like a predator at Shi Yuhuai, who was sitting in the middle just like she was.
At first everyone was watching each other warily, on guard in case someone suddenly made a move, so they didn’t start brawling right away.
Until Shi Yuhuai, relying on his long legs, suddenly made a lightning-fast move and kicked Mu Qiu’s inflatable boat over.
Mu Qiu and Shu Ran were lighter, so they fell backward uncontrollably. Guan Yu was a bit different—she lunged forward and grabbed hold of Shi Yuhuai’s foot.
Shi Yuhuai was startled. He quickly reached out to brace against the inflatable boat, and Cheng Zhirang and Li Yang immediately grabbed his arms.
So the inflatable boat that had almost capsized on Mu Qiu’s side somehow maintained a weird balance thanks to this slightly miraculous group pose.
Once the boat regained its balance, Mu Qiu and Shu Ran, still shaken, kept leaning to the right to cooperate with the weight distribution of Guan Yu hanging onto Shi Yuhuai’s foot, afraid to move even a little.
Then Cheng Zhirang reached out and yanked the tail end of their boat, successfully flicking Shu Ran at the back straight into the water.
"Aaaaahhhh! Brother Cheng!"
With a splash, Shu Ran fell into the pool, flailing around for quite a while. The spray almost hit Mu Qiu in the eyes. Mu Qiu closed her eyes, ready to wipe them, and right at that moment Shi Yuhuai stopped caring that his foot was still in Guan Yu’s grip. He followed through with another kick, using Guan Yu’s weight to tilt their entire boat toward his side.
This time there were no more legs for them to grab onto, and Mu Qiu tumbled straight into the water.
Guan Yu was even worse off—she went in headfirst, and dragged Shi Yuhuai down with her. Because of their positions, Shi Yuhuai ended up kneeling on Guan Yu’s back as he crashed down. Guan Yu became the cushion, and got stomped all the way to the bottom of the pool, nearly failing to swim back up.
In an instant, only two people were left.
Cheng Zhirang and Li Yang were still sitting on the inflatable boat, rocked to one side by the waves they’d created.
Li Yang still had his eyes wide open, happily turning his head to talk to Cheng Zhirang: "They’re really so—Brother Cheng!"
Cheng Zhirang, smiling, kicked him off.
The director immediately stepped in and blew the whistle: "The last person left on the inflatable boat is Brother Cheng! He’ll have priority choice on the next question!"
Cheng Zhirang gave the camera a faint, gentle smile.
The victor had the spotlight all to himself, while the rest were still splashing around in the water, clinging to the edge of the pool and panting like a bunch of wet dogs.
Once they climbed back onto the inflatable boats and sat down again, Mu Qiu felt like she barely had any strength left.
"Come on! Question eight!" Li Yang and Guan Yu were actually getting more fired up with each round.
Director: "Question eight. This one was compiled from the audience comments—whichever comment received the most likes is considered the top-voted answer. So, other than all the game formats we’ve already done over so many episodes, what kind of show format do the audience still want to see? Pick the one you think would have the highest vote count."
A: Escape-room type
B: Horror dark fairy-tale mystery type
C: Cozy travel daily-life type
D: Deserted-island survival mission type
E: TV drama re-creation and performance type
F: Rural-life transformation-program type
Mu Qiu immediately raised her hand and picked her favorite: "The dark fairy-tale mystery type!"
Guan Yu: "That’s gotta be escape room! I just want to see if anyone will scream while they run. So thrilling!"
And it wasn’t hard to guess who this "screaming while running" was referring to.
Shu Ran gritted her teeth and chose F: "I think the transformation program would be more interesting! We might get to see Brother Huai planting vegetables, Brother Cheng catching fish, and Li Yang getting chased by dogs!"
Li Yang: "??? Sister Shu Ran, why do I have to be the one chased by dogs?!"
Guan Yu lazily replied, "Because you’re a silly sweetheart, a walking trouble magnet. Even the village dogs would get annoyed at you. But I still think the audience would prefer a scenario where a bunch of people are crammed together screaming their heads off."
Mu Qiu looked at the two of them and cautiously offered, "How about... we stick with mystery?"
The two of them disagreed, glaring at each other cross-eyed, neither willing to back down.
At this point Shi Yuhuai had his own opinion and started talking it over with Cheng Zhirang and Li Yang.
"I think traveling would be great. The last few episodes were really rowdy; we could have one that’s slow living."
Li Yang called him out: "Brother Huai, you’re sure this isn’t just because you want to slack off on the show, eating, drinking, and lying around the whole time?"
Shi Yuhuai shot him a sideways glance: "You don’t want that?"
"Of course I... Fine, yeah, it does sound pretty good. Using the show as an excuse to travel around is nice too, I don’t get many chances usually... But desert-island survival, man, that’s way more exciting."
