I Write Novels in a Zerg Prison
Chapter 297: What If An Had Been the One Who Married Ulysses (3): He Came Home More and More Often, Observing This Male Zerg
An Ruo pulled Ulysses downstairs and prepared food for him.
Looking at how restrained and uncomfortable Ulysses seemed, he finally remembered that the Zerg before him was General-version Ulysses, who had none of those memories.
Only then did An Ruo start paying attention to the distance between them, restraining himself somewhat so that being overly intimate and enthusiastic wouldn’t frighten him.
But feelings for someone you loved couldn’t be hidden. Even if he kept his distance and behaved properly, those emotions would still spill out through his eyes.
Ulysses felt as though he were sitting on pins and needles.
He didn’t understand love, didn’t believe in feelings, and didn’t know what the light in the Male Zerg’s eyes represented, but instinctively, he sensed danger and unease.
Perhaps it meant the Male Zerg was very interested in him, eager to toy with him, treating him as prey and currently hunting him.
Tonight might be difficult to endure.
But Ulysses would rather the pain come quickly than continue enduring this torment of anticipation.
Ulysses barely tasted anything throughout lunch.
But when the Male Zerg looked at him with sparkling eyes and told him that these little golden fruits were very sweet and that he should try one, Ulysses obediently ate the fruit the Male Zerg handed him. Juice as sweet as honey burst across his tongue.
It was the only flavor he remembered from the entire meal.
Ulysses restrained himself and didn’t take another fruit, remaining wary of anything that might become a source of corruption.
Seeing him taste only one before pursing his lips without offering any opinion, An Ruo assumed he didn’t like them.
He was a little disappointed. But there weren’t many Female Zergs who liked sweet things in the first place, so that was normal.
After lunch, An Ruo saw that Ulysses was still sitting in his chair with no intention of leaving. His eyes brightened as he asked,
“Can you stay home tonight? You don’t have to go back to Military Headquarters?”
Ulysses watched him vigilantly, feeling as though everything was finally about to happen and the dust would at last settle.
He slowly nodded.
An Ruo immediately smiled, clasping his hands together delightedly.
“Then go upstairs and get some sleep! It definitely isn’t as comfortable in the military as it is at home. You probably haven’t rested properly these past few days.”
It wasn’t evening yet, but who cared?
Ulysses didn’t think they necessarily had to wait until nighttime either.
His expression unchanged, he stood up and, under the Male Zerg’s expectant gaze, headed upstairs.
The Male Zerg followed closely behind him step for step, like a little tail.
Ulysses understood.
He was already mentally prepared for everything that was about to happen.
He hoped it would be a little crueler, a little more painful—enough to tear away the Male Zerg’s mask.
In any case, he hoped it wouldn’t develop too far beyond his expectations.
Pain and blood were within his expectations.
Ulysses habitually stopped before the master bedroom. His footsteps paused slightly, and he glanced back at the Male Zerg. Seeing no objection from him, Ulysses pushed open the door and entered.
The bedroom actually wasn’t the ideal location. If the Male Zerg had prepared a punishment room, he wouldn’t have come here.
The problem was that there wasn’t one.
That room had actually been a study.
The Male Zerg hadn’t made any other requests either. He hadn’t ordered Ulysses to go to some room underground or anywhere else, so Ulysses could only choose the bedroom.
He entered the master bedroom, his gaze sweeping over the bed and then toward the bathroom, pausing briefly in thought.
An Ruo instinctively followed him, but the moment he stepped through the doorway, he realized what he was doing and hurriedly stopped.
This was General-version Ulysses. There had been no romantic relationship between them.
As far as Ulysses was concerned, An Ruo was merely a “stranger” he had only known for a few days and met twice.
Under these circumstances, they obviously couldn’t sleep together. Otherwise, how would that be any different from acting like a pervert?
In that case, following him inside wasn’t right either.
After all, this was a bedroom. They couldn’t lie down on the bed together to rest, but standing awkwardly beside him doing nothing would also be strange.
Seeing Ulysses sense something and turn around in confusion, An Ruo hurriedly smiled and waved his hand.
“You get some rest first. I won’t disturb you. If you need anything, just call me anytime.”
Although An Ruo had been sleeping in this room for the past few days and had already grown accustomed to it, this was still the master bedroom. It had once been Ulysses’ room and was likewise a place Ulysses was accustomed to.
An Ruo couldn’t bring himself to chase the master of the house into a guest bedroom, so when faced with the question of who should use which room, he gave the room to Ulysses without hesitation.
It wasn’t even something that required a decision.
After saying that, An Ruo backed out and even closed the bedroom door for Ulysses.
He stood in the corridor outside for a while. Faced with the choice between preparing a guest bedroom for himself and going to his study, he hesitated only briefly before choosing the latter.
He couldn’t be bothered to tidy up a room.
He decided to go write first and leave the matter to the robot Zergs when it was actually time to sleep that night.
Inside the room, Ulysses stared intently at the closed door, his brows tightly furrowed, genuinely confused.
He heard the Male Zerg’s footsteps receding outside. Judging from the direction of the sound, he had gone to the study.
Ulysses’ frown deepened.
He couldn’t understand the Male Zerg’s behavior, nor could he deduce his objective.
The Male Zerg existed outside the bounds of his understanding, making him extremely difficult to deal with.
Perhaps that was precisely his purpose—to confuse Ulysses, lower his guard, and then seek an opportunity for a “killing blow”?
Ulysses turned to look at the large bed in the master bedroom.
Whatever the Male Zerg’s objective was, he needed to remain prepared and ready to respond at any moment.
After briefly washing up, Ulysses got into bed. Wearing his pajamas, he lay down fully clothed.
He closed his eyes and waited for a while.
The Male Zerg never came.
And there was no way Ulysses could actually fall asleep under these circumstances.
A faint fragrance emanated from the pillow, winding around him and disturbing his mind, leaving him increasingly restless.
He simply sat up and opened a light screen on his terminal to search.
He entered the contents he had glimpsed earlier on the light screen in the Male Zerg’s study. With a single search, page after page of related results quickly appeared.
Everything pointed toward one novel.
That Female Zerg–Male Zerg romance novel that had recently become wildly popular among the Zergs.
Frowning, Ulysses opened it and began reading, only to discover that its contents were somewhat different from what he had seen...
He quickly realized why.
What he had seen was what happened next.
It was the next chapter, which had not yet been published.
The Male Zerg had written this book?!
Ulysses’ pupils trembled.
He thought of that half-finished manuscript and the contents that were obviously the continuation of the next chapter.
Only the author himself could possess something like that.
A Male Zerg...
Writing a Female Zerg–Male Zerg romance?
Leaving aside how utterly incongruous that was, Ulysses recalled the Male Zerg’s appearance and genuinely couldn’t understand what his purpose could possibly be.
It was as though some enormous conspiracy surrounded him, yet he couldn’t see any part of it clearly.
It left Ulysses agitated.
He shouldn’t have been so easily emotionally affected.
Ulysses forced himself to calm down and settle his mind, only to notice that barely perceptible fragrance again.
It was the Male Zerg’s pheromones.
Faint, yet impossible to ignore.
Ulysses’ eyes went unfocused for an instant. After a while, they regained their clarity. He lowered his head and supported it with one hand, feeling that coming to sleep in the master bedroom had not been a good decision.
The Male Zerg didn’t come even after night fell.
He didn’t come later that night either.
During the night, Ulysses heard some movement.
The Male Zerg lingered outside his room for a while, seemingly hesitating over something, before turning around and entering the room next door.
Not long afterward, Ulysses heard the sound of running water as the Male Zerg washed up, followed by faint footsteps.
To the ears of an SSS-rank Female Zerg, these sounds were incomparably clear. Even the finest soundproofing was like a sheet of thin paper before him.
Ulysses listened as the Male Zerg washed up, yawned, climbed into bed, sleepily mumbled good night, turned over, and soon began breathing steadily.
The Male Zerg...
Had fallen asleep.
Ulysses remained silent in the darkness for a long time.
What kind of Male Zerg gave the master bedroom to a Female Zerg and slept in a secondary bedroom himself?
And who had that seemingly habitual “good night” been meant for?
There were more and more mysteries.
And they troubled him.
At dawn, as the sky gradually brightened, Ulysses woke according to his biological clock and only then realized that at some point, he had actually fallen asleep.
The pleasant fragrance lingered around him.
It had seeped into the pillow and blanket, enveloping him completely as though trying to soak into his body.
Ulysses sat up and immediately discovered that a part of his body he rarely paid attention to had reacted.
A rare morning arousal.
His body stiffened slightly.
While telling himself that this was a perfectly normal physiological reaction for a Female Zerg, he quickly left the bed saturated with traces of the Male Zerg’s pheromones.
It wasn’t as though Ulysses had never experienced anything before. Even though he suppressed his personal desires to an extremely low level, there had still been a few occasions due to physiological awakening, rank advancement, transformations, and similar causes.
Usually, if he simply ignored it, the reaction would naturally subside.
This time, however, it was different.
Perhaps because he had been stimulated by the Male Zerg’s pheromones, it was difficult to resolve.
Ulysses was already overwhelmed and had no attention to spare for this physical complication. In the end, he could only use his hand briefly and forcibly suppress it before he was finally able to dress normally and leave.
He departed the villa in the morning light without saying goodbye to the Male Zerg.
When An Ruo woke up and discovered that Ulysses had already left, he felt somewhat dejected.
He was about to close the master bedroom door and leave when he caught a trace of a familiar cool fragrance.
His footsteps paused.
He raised his eyes toward the air purification system currently running inside the room. His gaze shifted from the bed to the bathroom, and a certain conjecture formed in his mind.
......
This time, Ulysses endured half a month at the Military Region.
Life in the military shouldn’t have been torment, but whenever he thought of the Male Zerg at home, every day seemed to drag on like a year.
Probably because such a huge unresolved problem was waiting for him, constantly spurring him on.
During this period, he finished reading the romance novel written by the Male Zerg.
A mature Male Lord from the future—older, steady, tolerant.
When faced with his lively and impulsive Female Lord in his youth, he possessed endless patience. He gave him tolerance and affection, yet was also willing to cast aside his dignity and join him in fooling around, his every action overflowing with love and cherishing.
Ulysses frowned again and again as he read.
Why would a Male Zerg write such an utterly unrealistic story, something that even Female Zergs wouldn’t dare fantasize about?
That Female Zerg even skipped classes, raced aircraft, took the Male Zerg to an underground mech arena, and even held a pheromone cigarette between his lips while trying to act cool and pinning the Male Zerg against a wall...
He was completely full of youthful recklessness.
Ulysses tried to examine the Female Zerg’s actions as calmly and objectively as possible.
By the standards expected of a Female Lord, this Female Zerg should have been eliminated from consideration long ago.
Yet the Male Zerg’s gaze continued following him closely.
He simply liked him.
Even when the Female Zerg performed terribly in bed, the Male Zerg remained patient and gentle, carefully guiding him just as a Female Zerg would guide a Male Zerg through physiological awakening.
A Male Zerg like this couldn’t possibly exist in reality.
It was merely a fictional story.
And yet Ulysses couldn’t stop himself from wanting to investigate further.
After that, he went home several more times.
The Male Zerg never once asked Ulysses to serve him, so Ulysses consciously moved into another room and returned the master bedroom to him.
That was the normal arrangement in an ordinary household.
The Male Lord lived in the master bedroom, while the Female Lord had his own room.
It was rare for a Male Lord and Female Lord to share a room, since that would interfere with the Male Lord favoring his other Female Attendants.
Naturally, there were even fewer households where the Male Lord slept in a secondary bedroom while the Female Lord occupied the master bedroom.
When Ulysses moved out of the master bedroom, the Male Zerg looked as though he wanted to say something, but ultimately agreed.
Except the very next day, he had Zergs come over and knock through the walls between several secondary bedrooms.
Now Ulysses’ room was even larger than the master bedroom.
Ulysses thought this was completely unnecessary.
Especially since those rooms should originally have belonged to the Male Zerg’s other Female Attendants, yet now they all belonged to him.
Even though the villa still had plenty of empty rooms on its other floors, there were only so many rooms close to the Male Zerg’s bedroom. Every one of them represented how favored a Female Attendant was and his status within the household.
By doing this now, the Male Zerg would make things very difficult later.
Of course, Ulysses wasn’t about to worry on the Male Zerg’s behalf about his future Female Attendants.
He continued going to Military Headquarters for work.
It was just that the frequency with which he returned home gradually increased.
From once every half month, to once a week.
Then once every three days.
Once every two days...
Until eventually, he was seeing the Male Zerg almost every day.
He observed this Male Zerg.
