Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Selena’s Request

"You didn’t kill my soldiers?"

Vili’s brow furrowed instantly, his expression grim. "Lying to me will have serious consequences."

Selena heard this and felt a chilling threat from Vili. She explained hurriedly, "This is my first time in the surface world, and my first time seeing you humans. How could I possibly have killed your soldiers?"

Vili had already activated the Power of Justice within him, carefully sensing Selena’s emotions.

’She’s really not lying...’

Vili’s pupils constricted. His Power of Justice hadn’t detected any lies from Selena.

Lies were a classic manifestation of the Power of Sin. If Selena had lied, Vili would have easily sensed it. But right now, he couldn’t detect the slightest trace of deceit from her.

Even if they didn’t speak the same language, the Power of Lies could not be faked.

’In that case...’

A wary look appeared in Vili’s eyes.

If that was true, then some other Extraordinary Creature must have killed the two Sea Defense Soldiers.

’Could it be another Purple-striped Sea Elf?’

Vili pondered.

He turned to look at Selena. "Do you have any other kinsfolk in the nearby waters?"

"Kinsfolk?" Selena waved her hands and quickly said, "No, it’s just me."

Vili sized Selena up. That was the truth, too.

"Alright. Then why did you come to the coastal area? As far as I know, Sea Elves are supposed to live in the Deep Sea Tribes. They rarely leave their tribes without reason."

Vili continued to ask.

"I..."

When asked this, a hint of conflict appeared in Selena’s eyes. "I just wanted to come out and travel for a bit..."

"I told you, there will be serious consequences if you lie."

Vili repeated himself. What Selena just said was a lie.

Selena looked at Vili, slightly stunned. This surface-dwelling Human could really see through her lies.

As if realizing something, Selena placed a hand on her chest, sensing the mysterious power that suppressed her own abilities.

She suddenly recalled what the elders in the Kala Coral Tribe used to say—that among the groups of humans on land, there was a terrifying Extraordinary group called the Hanged Man.

The terrifying Hanged Man not only judged and eliminated sin, but they also possessed a powerful ability to suppress her kind, the Purple-striped Sea Elves.

They were brave, fearless, and devoted to contribution and self-sacrifice. They could see through all sin and suppress all Extraordinary Power from an Evil Origin.

They were the most powerful guardians of humanity, but also the nightmare and slayer of other evil races.

"Y-You’re... a Hanged Man?"

At this thought, an unconcealable terror appeared in Selena’s eyes as she looked at Vili.

"Hanged Man?"

Colson, who was relaying the conversation, had never heard this term before. But seeing Vili’s currently stern expression, he didn’t dare ask what "Hanged Man" meant.

"That’s right."

Vili was very surprised. He hadn’t expected someone among the Sea Elves to know of the Hanged Man’s existence.

He cleared his throat. "Since you know who I am, do not tell a single lie in my presence."

"Alright..."

Selena looked resigned. "The reason I came to the surface world is that I had nowhere to go after leaving my tribe, so I thought I’d come see the legendary humans. But I never expected to be caught by you, Mr. Hanged Man."

"Why did you leave your tribe?"

Vili asked in return.

Selena seemed to find it difficult to speak, but under Vili’s coercion, she told the truth. "I left my tribe to... escape a marriage. Because I possess the royal bloodline of the Sea Elves, the chief of a much larger tribe took an interest in me. To gain the support of that large tribe, my elders decided to marry me off to that ugly, hundred-year-old creature. I had no choice but to flee."

As she spoke, a look of sorrow and resentment appeared in Selena’s eyes.

Hearing this, Vili sniffed. He hadn’t expected the world under the sea to have such melodramatic soap operas.

Siding with the strong seemed to be an instinct for all intelligent races.

Vili shook his head slightly. Just as he was about to sigh at the thought, a possibility suddenly occurred to him.

"Since you chose to flee your tribe, isn’t there anyone trying to capture you and bring you back?"

Selena hesitated. "There are. It’s just that no one has found me yet."

"In that case, is it possible that the ones who killed my two Guards were your pursuers, who tracked you here ahead of time?"

A suspicion had already formed in Vili’s mind.

At his words, an embarrassed look crossed Selena’s face. "That’s possible..."

Selena secretly glanced at Vili’s expression, genuinely afraid that he would vent his anger on her.

But then her heart suddenly trembled. ’Does that mean the tribe’s pursuers have already reached the nearby waters...?’

At this thought, panic flickered in Selena’s eyes.

She would rather wander aimlessly, rather die, than marry that disgusting, despicable old Sea Elf.

"A pity..."

Vili sighed. So, those two Guards really had been caught in a disaster they had nothing to do with.

He looked at Selena. The Sea Elf Maiden’s origins were now clear, so the next important question was how to deal with her.

"What do you think I should do with you?"

Vili now realized that capturing Selena had been a mere coincidence born from a misunderstanding.

But even so, the fact that she had lured him and Wally with her song was undeniable. He couldn’t just let her go.

"How about..."

Selena seemed to have made a difficult decision. "Please give me a chance to stay on land!"

"You mean... take you in?"

Vili hadn’t expected Selena to make such a request. "Why?"

"I suspect my tribe’s pursuers have already reached the nearby waters. If I return to the sea, I’ll probably be captured."

Selena told the truth. She knew she could keep no secrets from Vili. "Please take me in... I can be at your disposal at any time."

Selena thought of the legends about Sea Elves who lived on land.

’Maybe I can fight for this chance.’ Otherwise, she couldn’t bear the thought of facing her fate back in the deep sea.

"At my disposal? What benefit can you bring me? It seems more likely you’ll just be trouble."

Although Vili said this, he was already weighing the pros and cons in his mind.

"This..."

Selena was at a loss for words. It seemed that was indeed the case.

She suddenly felt that she was doomed. She had no value to offer, was nothing but trouble, and on top of that, possessed the Power of Evil Origin. This Hanged Man before her might actually kill her.

At this thought, Selena’s body trembled slightly.

’Am I going to die on land?’
