Chapter 137: Chapter 137: The Ferren Family’s Relocation

Outside Fandou Village, several exquisite, luxurious carriages slowly rolled out from within.

The coachman of each carriage was dressed in black livery and a formal hat, giving them an extraordinary air.

Surrounding the carriages were a dozen or so guards clad in armor. They rode Armored Warhorses and held Knight’s Lances, and one look was enough to tell they were professional warriors.

A young man in Light Armor led the way at the head of the caravan. His eyes shone with aspiration, and he radiated an air of high spirits.

It was Dane.

Just a few days ago, his captain, Vili, had been personally enfeoffed as the new Baron of Blue Whale Town by Count Lumbar.

At the time, Dane had lamented that he would no longer be able to work under Vili. However, when Baron Kels personally visited Blue Whale Town to offer his congratulations, he took the initiative and suggested that Dane and Sandoor move there to help Vili develop the town.

This made Dane ecstatic.

Previously, Dane and Sandoor had been key members of the new retinue under the Baron’s heir, but not part of the core inner circle.

But things were different now. Dane and Sandoor’s status had been elevated simultaneously, making them core subordinates to a newly minted Baron. Their new standing was comparable to Olay’s position in Diamond Town. For the two of them, it was a monumental leap in status.

Although neither of them had been assigned a specific official post yet, Dane was certain that in the near future, when Vili reorganized Blue Whale Town, he and Sandoor would be appointed to important positions, becoming top figures of power in the town.

As for today, Dane had been entrusted by Vili to bring the Baron’s family to Blue Whale Town.

Although Fandou Village was now part of Blue Whale Town’s territory, it was more appropriate for the Baron’s family to live in the town proper.

Vili hadn’t had a spare moment to arrange for his family’s relocation, so he hadn’t even sent word ahead of time. Now that he finally had a moment to breathe, he had urgently dispatched Dane to handle the matter personally.

Inside the foremost carriage.

Lake sat inside, his gaze lost as he stared blankly through the window at the passing scenery.

’This scenery is so familiar,’ he thought. ’It feels like I just saw it a short while ago. Back then, Vili had only just entered Baron Kels’s service and been granted Fandou Village. I passed right through here when I drove the carriage from Xiangguo Village to our new home.’ ℴℴ𝘮

’Less than a year has passed, and we’re moving again. This time, we’re going from Fandou Village to the much more distant Blue Whale Town—a prosperous town by the sea. Last time, we moved as the family of the Fandou Village Chief. This time, we’re moving as the family of the new Baron of Blue Whale Town.’

When Dane first announced that Vili had become a Baron, the first word that came to Lake’s mind was "absurd." If he hadn’t recognized Dane, he probably would have chased the messenger out of Fandou Village with a broom.

But after Dane’s sincere and firm explanation, Lake was left completely bewildered.

Lake was in a daze. The world felt unreal.

’Just a year ago, I was an ordinary farmer from the countryside. How did I become a Baron’s father in the blink of an eye?’

’Does that mean... I’m a nobleman now, too?’

"Father, what are you thinking about?"

Vilia frowned, looking at Lake with a puzzled expression.

’She couldn’t understand it. Why would something as wonderful as Vili becoming a Baron make both her father and mother so quiet and withdrawn?’

’Shouldn’t everyone be celebrating?’

"Er..."

Lake snapped out of his daze. He glanced at his wife, who was similarly out of sorts, and gave Vilia a noncommittal reply, "I’m just thinking about some things..."

Vilia pouted, clearly unimpressed by that excuse.

She stretched out her arms and wrapped them around White Bear Wally’s neck, a look of pure contentment on her face.

Wally could no longer be described as a mere cub. He was now a size larger than the average large dog, and his presence was the only reason the spacious carriage felt a little cramped.

Wally stuck out his tongue and gave Vilia’s face a gentle lick.

The intelligent bear knew very well that Vilia was in high spirits.

"Now that Vili’s a Baron, I’m the young lady of a noble house," Vilia whispered into Wally’s ear. "And you, you’re a nobleman’s Pet Beast. So, you have to act with a noble bearing, understand?"

Vilia herself had no idea what a "noble bearing" entailed, but that didn’t stop her from lecturing Wally on the subject.

Upon hearing Vilia’s words, Wally nodded eagerly, as if to say he understood completely.

"Good boy. I’ll have Vili give you a reward."

Vilia patted Wally’s head, satisfied.

In the second carriage.

Inside sat Old Yor and his grandson, Laudon and his son, and the chatterbox, Colson.

Vili had specifically instructed Dane to bring these five people to Blue Whale Town as well.

"Old Yor, has Lord Vili really become a Baron?"

Colson asked Old Yor.

Old Yor pressed his lips together, his smile a bit strained. This was the fiftieth time Colson had asked him that question.

"Yes, my boy. Lord Village Chief has become Lord Baron now. I am absolutely certain," Old Yor said, patting Colson’s shoulder. "Rest for a bit, son, or you’ll talk yourself hoarse."

"It’s fine! I brought a water flask."

With that, Colson lifted a water flask nearly the size of a small bucket and waved it in front of Old Yor’s eyes.

Seeing this, Old Yor said no more. He simply closed his eyes and leaned back against the carriage wall, pretending to doze.

Colson sniffled. He turned to look at Laudon, only to see that he, like Old Yor, had also chosen to close his eyes and rest.

He then turned to Yadon, who shot him a threatening glare.

With no other choice, he sidled up next to the youngest of the group, Alek.

"Alek, Lord Vili became a Baron! Aren’t you happy?"

Colson received no response from Alek.

"I’ve already got it all figured out," he continued, undeterred. "Once we get to Blue Whale Town, I’m going to expand my breeding operation. Not just poultry, but livestock, too. I’ll raise them all in pens. I bet with my help, the animal husbandry in Blue Whale Town will see a massive leap forward."

Colson leaned closer to Alek’s ear. "Oh, and Blue Whale Town is right by the ocean! You know, there are tons of creatures in the sea. I bet I could catch them and farm them, too. I could definitely produce a lot more food for Lord Vili that way."

...

In the carriages, the Lake couple remained dazed, Vilia and Wally remained excited, and Colson kept chattering on...

The better part of the day passed quickly.

As evening approached, the travel-weary folk from Fandou Village suddenly caught the scent of the sea on the air. They had finally arrived in Baron Vili’s new domain just before nightfall.
