Chapter 450: Chapter 332: No Guts, No Glory
"For this Celestial Slaughter Golden Lotus, you could say that all the top prodigies from every sect are here. From our Wanxiang Sect, it’s just the three of us."
"We have to stick together here. We can’t be reckless. Safety first."
As Lin Wang and Ling Tianyi spoke, wry smiles appeared on their faces in unison. But when they looked at Yu Changsheng, their expressions turned to curiosity and confusion.
"Alright."
Yu Changsheng gave a slight nod. He looked at the two of them. Despite their strength, they could only linger in the outer circle here. If he were to stick with them...
Lin Wang swallowed, seeming to have guessed what was on Yu Changsheng’s mind. A look of helplessness crossed his face, and with the earnest, ’I’m-doing-this-for-your-own-good’ attitude of someone trying to talk sense into another, he spoke up.
"Changsheng, even though you’re ranked ninth on the list and can enter the inner circle, everyone in there is ruthless. They’re the absolute top figures from their sects, not your average Golden Core cultivators."
"My advice is, if you’re not confident, we should just stay safe here in the outer circle. Then we can see if any other opportunities pop up. Safety is the top priority. After all, you’re a seed prodigy for our Wanxiang Sect now. The Celestial Slaughter Golden Lotus is just an external object, but we can’t afford to lose you."
Ling Tianyi, who was standing to the side, nodded in agreement.
Yu Changsheng was silent for a moment, looking at their earnest expressions.
"Thank you both for your concern. Safety is indeed the top priority."
"Yes, yes, that’s right. It’s better for us to play it safe."
Seeing this, Lin Wang and Ling Tianyi exchanged a smile and let out long sighs, seeming much more relieved.
As prodigies of the Wanxiang Sect, the two of them naturally had their own pride. Unfortunately, within this Celestial Slaughter Secret Realm, cultivators stronger than them were a dime a dozen, which was inevitably discouraging.
Their attention toward Yu Changsheng was only because they had seen his name on the list. As for his actual strength, neither had interacted with him much, so they naturally had no idea.
But seeing that Yu Changsheng’s cultivation was not even at the Golden Core realm, they felt it was impossible for him to compare to the top-ranked prodigies. In a way, the advice they gave was genuinely for his own good.
"However," seeing their expressions, Yu Changsheng changed his tone. He cupped his fist and gave them a small smile.
"Thank you both for your kind intentions. I understand. But since I’m in the top ten of the list, if I don’t even dare to enter the inner circle and face the other prodigies ranked alongside me, wouldn’t that just make our Wanxiang Sect a laughingstock for the other sects?"
"I will naturally be careful. You two Senior Brothers should also look out for your own safety. You don’t need to worry about me."
After speaking, Yu Changsheng gave a slight smile and a sidelong glance at the two of them. Without a backward look, he flicked his sleeve and strode toward the inner circle, leaving them standing there, stunned and in disbelief as they watched his retreating figure.
"This... you... Don’t be reckless!"
Lin Wang stood there stunned. He grit his teeth, speechless for a long moment as he watched Yu Changsheng’s back, then stamped his foot in frustration.
"Sigh, why won’t he listen? It would be such a waste if he fell here! Are all the people from Beast Taming Peak this arrogant?"
Lin Wang sighed, a flash of anger crossing his face. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Forget it. Good advice is lost on someone determined to court death. We’ve said what we needed to say. What he does now is none of our business. After all, *he’s* the one ranked ninth on the list."
Ling Tianyi clapped Lin Wang on the shoulder, shrugging as he waved a hand dismissively. He chuckled, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.
"Sigh, I suppose that’s all we can do. Let’s just wish him luck," Lin Wang said with a helpless nod. He didn’t press the issue, but his expression shifted to a sneer. "I’m curious to see for myself. Someone who can rank ninth on the Celestial Slaughter List must have *some* skill."
"But so what? When a true life-or-death crisis hits, I just hope he doesn’t drag us down with him. In this Celestial Slaughter Secret Realm, you have to know your place..."
...
Yu Changsheng neither heard what Lin Wang and Ling Tianyi were saying nor could be bothered with them. Even if he had, he wouldn’t have cared in the slightest.
’The Wanxiang Sect has been weak for so long that even its prodigies have become this unconfident, thinking themselves inferior to others...?’
Yu Changsheng mused to himself as he slowly walked toward the inner circle.
’Cultivators are defined by a single word: struggle. If you lose even the courage to step forward, then your path to immortality ends here.’
Yu Changsheng shook his head inwardly. While there was some truth to what the other two had said, he didn’t quite agree.
He had already come this far. With an opportunity before him, Yu Changsheng naturally wouldn’t give up. And if things went south, he was confident he could still escape unscathed.
"Well said. Isn’t cultivation just a constant process of fighting for opportunities? The path to becoming the strongest is never a smooth one."
The Profound Turtle’s appreciative voice chimed in at just the right moment, agreeing with Yu Changsheng’s thoughts.
Yu Changsheng nodded slightly. With a calm expression, he slowly stepped into the inner circle, glanced at the other nine people surrounding the Celestial Slaughter Golden Lotus, and found a spot to sit down cross-legged.
In the inner circle around the Celestial Slaughter Golden Lotus, there were now ten people in total, including Yu Changsheng. They formed a perfect ring around the treasure. At the center of the ten, the Celestial Slaughter Golden Lotus was a budding flower, yet to bloom, radiating a bloody light.
"Yu Changsheng?"
Yu Changsheng had just sat down when an intrigued voice spoke up. He looked up toward the source of the voice.
The speaker was a handsome man dressed in white robes. He was tall and slender, lightly fanning himself with a blue feathered fan in his right hand. A gentle breeze stirred the dark hair on his forehead, revealing a pair of deep eyes that were sizing Yu Changsheng up with curiosity.
