I Tame Beasts by Feeding
Chapter 243 - 229: The Arrogant Spirit Dragon Sect
Chapter 243: Chapter 229: The Arrogant Spirit Dragon Sect
"Now, I declare the Beast Taming competition between our two sects... has begun!"
As Mo Pengchen began to announce the rules of the competition, everyone fell silent and stopped to listen.
"For this competition, each of our two sects has put forth thirty-two disciples, for a total of sixty-four participants. The rules for the preliminary round are quite simple. We will be drawing lots to determine one-on-one matchups. The winner will advance, and the loser will be eliminated."
"After two rounds, we will have our top sixteen. That means—congratulations in advance—that you only need to win two matches to earn a handsome reward."
The moment Mo Pengchen finished speaking, a fervent fighting spirit ignited in the eyes of nearly every disciple. Only two matches. The pressure wasn’t that great.
As Mo Pengchen spoke, his gaze drifted over the disciples below the stage. As his head turned, his eyes swept past the crowd, and then—whether intentionally or not—paused for a moment on Yu Changsheng.
"Now, our two sects will each begin drawing lots to decide the disciples for the first match."
Since this was an inter-sect competition, there would naturally be no matches between disciples from the same sect—at least, not in the early rounds.
In the later rounds, if one sect had far more winning disciples than the other, their advantage would naturally be greater, but they would still do their best to avoid pitting their own disciples against each other.
And if one sect achieved a clean sweep against the other, then there would be no need to continue the competition at all.
After speaking, Mo Pengchen exchanged a glance with Mu Yongxian. They both nodded slightly. Two containers appeared, each holding thirty-two bamboo slips bearing the names of the competing disciples from each sect. Without hesitation, Mo Pengchen grasped one of the containers and gave it a gentle shake.
Instantly, a bamboo slip flew out. Mu Yongxian did the same on his side.
The two men waved their hands, using their Magical Power to project a screen of light that clearly displayed the names on the two slips for all the disciples below.
"First match: Wang Wen Hao versus Chen Xiangyu!"
From within the crowd, the two chosen disciples each stepped forward from their respective sect’s contingent. They leaped onto the stage in the Central Square and bowed to the two Peak Masters with cupped fists.
’Wang Wen Hao? Foundation Establishment Third Layer... He’s going to be at a disadvantage.’
Yu Changsheng frowned, observing the disciple from his sect. He mulled it over; he had heard the name before but wasn’t familiar with the person himself.
Meanwhile, Chen Xiangyu of the Spirit Dragon Sect glanced at his opponent and—whether intentionally or not—gave a disdainful smirk.
"I’ll give you three minutes. Either withdraw on your own, or I’ll beat you off the stage."
Chen Xiangyu said coolly, his tone filled not only with contempt but also brimming with confidence.
"Hmph?" Wang Wen Hao’s expression changed, his face darkening. He let out a cold laugh. "Such arrogance. Are all of you from the Spirit Dragon Sect this conceited?"
"Not all of us. I just can’t be bothered to waste my breath on you. You’re not worthy of my words."
Chen Xiangyu shook his head. As the two Peak Masters on the stage gave the command to begin, he waved his hand, summoning his two beasts from his Inner Realm. At the same time, the aura of his cultivation billowed out without reservation.
Wang Wen Hao’s eyes flickered. He waved his hand, and his own two beasts appeared as well. He swallowed hard without realizing it.
There was only one reason: Chen Xiangyu’s cultivation was at the Foundation Establishment Fifth Layer, placing him in the upper echelons of all the competing disciples.
He, on the other hand, was only at the Foundation Establishment Third Layer. Although a Beast Master’s combat strength comes not just from themselves but more importantly from their beasts, a beast’s power is directly linked to its master’s.
The stronger the Beast Master, the stronger their Spirit Beasts will naturally be. Thus, with a two-layer gap in their cultivation, it was no surprise that the realms of their beasts were also nearly two layers apart.
’How could I be so unlucky right from the start?’ Wang Wen Hao lamented inwardly, a bitter taste in his mouth.
Even though he knew victory was practically impossible, withdrawing was not an option. He could only grit his teeth and fight on.
On the stage, the battle unfolded in a flurry of moves, and for a moment, it seemed an even match. However, it was clear that the situation was becoming completely one-sided, with Wang Wen Hao showing signs of being unable to hold his ground.
In contrast to Wang Wen Hao, who was struggling desperately, Chen Xiangyu looked as if he were taking a leisurely stroll. He hadn’t even made a move himself. By simply directing from the sidelines, his two beasts were able to completely suppress Wang Wen Hao and his own two beasts, and they still had energy to spare.
It couldn’t be helped. The gap in their strength was just too vast.
"Dozens of breaths have passed. I advise you to just withdraw. Why make things so difficult for yourself?"
Chen Xiangyu gave a faint, mocking smile as he watched Wang Wen Hao. He seemed lazy and utterly nonchalant.
Wang Wen Hao gritted his teeth, cold sweat dripping from his forehead. His eyes were already bloodshot.
As a contestant in the very first match, he naturally had a lot of eyes on him. Losing was one thing, but being so easily crushed would be humiliating.
Seeing that Wang Wen Hao didn’t respond, a sharp glint flashed in Chen Xiangyu’s eyes. He glanced up at Mu Yongxian, then let out a cold, mocking laugh.
"Fine then. I’m done playing with you. Time to get a little serious. Are all of you from the Wanxiang Sect so incapable of judging your own strength?"
As soon as he said this, laughter erupted from the Spirit Dragon Sect disciples. In contrast, the disciples of Beast Taming Peak looked furious, their faces dark as they glared daggers at Chen Xiangyu on the stage.
Even Mo Pengchen showed a hint of displeasure. He frowned slightly, glanced at Mu Yongxian beside him, and said coolly, "Are all the disciples of your Spirit Dragon Sect this discourteous?"
Mu Yongxian stroked his beard and chuckled. Shaking his head, he gave a slight bow with cupped fists toward Mo Pengchen. "Young people can be proud and arrogant. It’s normal for them to lack some etiquette. I hope Peak Master Mo won’t take it to heart."
After speaking, Mu Yongxian sighed softly. "It’s true, that’s just how the boy Chen Xiangyu is. His strength is clearly average, yet he insists on being so arrogant. I’ve always told him to give his all no matter his opponent’s strength, lest he suffer a great loss. He just won’t listen. I’ll be sure to give him a good talking-to later."
"Hah. Then you’d best be careful. After all, the overly arrogant rarely come to a good end." Mo Pengchen gave a cold laugh, shaking his head, not wanting to say more.
’How could he not hear the mockery in Mu Yongxian’s words? It was nothing more than a boast: My Spirit Dragon Sect can pick any random disciple to face one of yours, and they won’t even have to try to win with ease.’
’Your Wanxiang Sect disciples are just not up to par.’
Seeing this, Mu Yongxian gave a knowing smile and said no more, content to watch the duel below with amusement.
"It seems this is all you’ve got. Forget it." On the stage, Chen Xiangyu shook his head and spoke. Besides mockery, his eyes held what seemed to be a hint of regret.
"And here I thought you’d be a worthy opponent. How boring. Wind Spirit Crocodile, Wind-Split Eagle, stop playing around. End this."
Chen Xiangyu said coolly, letting out a yawn.
