I Summon Female Knights

Chapter 58: Through the Threshold

  • Next Chapter

Deep within the subterranean vault of The Iron Spire of the Sky-Shattered Vault, the heavy, oppressive silence was broken by a sudden, rhythmic pulse of spatial mana.

The ancient circular archway forged into the dark adamantine wall flared with brilliant silvery-violet light. Microscopic runes etched across its frame ignited one by one, interlocking in a flawless, complex matrix that hummed like a subterranean engine. The shimmering spatial mist at the center of the archway condensed into a smooth, dark-violet mirror that reflected no light from the chamber.

[SPATIAL WAYPOINT GATE CONSTRUCTED!]

- Status: Fully Operational / Spatial Anchor Stable.

- Target Coordinates: Sector 9, Jiston (Subterranean Industrial Vaults)

- Cloaking Protocol: Active (Zero Mana Leakage / Undetectable by Bureau Arrays)

Raphael stood ten paces from the newly opened archway, completely still.

Across his back hung the dual scabbard harness holding the Vanguard of the Eclipse set: the four-foot matte-black longsword and curved parrying dagger. On his hands were the Sovereign’s Shadow-Grip Gauntlets, their obsidian knuckles resting comfortably against his sides. Over his shirt, he wore a heavy, midnight-black travel coat.

Beside him stood Vanessa, her relic-staff held lightly in her right hand, her cold violet eyes observing the humming dimensional portal with quiet reverence. A few paces behind her, the eight-foot-tall Abyssal Warmaster stood like an immovable monument of dark iron, its massive battle-cleaver planted firmly against the marble floor.

"The dimensional anchor is absolute, Lord Raphael," Vanessa spoke softly, her silk-like voice echoing in the vast vault. "The gate has successfully bound itself to the lower levels of the human realm without disturbing the spatial grid. To the Bureau’s monitoring stations, Sector 9 remains entirely peaceful."

"Good," Raphael said, his voice steady.

He raised his right hand, making a brief gesture. Driven by his intent, his acquired passive skill, Sovereign’s Veil, activated fully.

A shimmering wave of translucent, violet mana wrapped around his broad body before sinking deep beneath his skin. Instantly, the suffocating, royal pressure that normally radiated from him vanished. The terrifying, godlike presence that had crushed the Old King and forced the Warmaster to its knees melted away completely, leaving behind what appeared to be nothing more than a tall, quiet wanderer.

To any external observer or mana-detection array, Raphael now registered as a completely unawakened, low-tier civilian carrying decorative steel.

"Your aura is entirely veiled, my Lord," Vanessa noted, a faint smile touching her lips. "Even an A-Tier sensor would pass over you without a second glance."

"The Warmaster holds the inner gate," Raphael commanded, looking over his shoulder at the kneeling eight-foot lieutenant. "Vanessa, monitor the domain’s core while I’m away. If any spatial anomaly approaches the outer barrier, notify me through our bond immediately."

"As you command, Sovereign," Vanessa bowed deeply, resting her left hand over her heart. "May your shadow fall heavy upon the realm below."

Raphael turned back to the glowing mirror of the Waypoint Gate. He took a single, calm step forward and crossed the threshold.

...

The transition was instantaneous and weightless. There was no disorienting spatial tear or sickening pressure, but only a brief flash of cool, violet light followed by the sudden, sharp shift in ambient atmosphere.

The pure, mana-saturated air of the Iron Spire vanished, replaced by the damp, heavy stench of rust, stale rain, stagnant river water, and diesel exhaust.

Raphael stepped out of the portal’s exit, his dark boots splashing softly into a puddle of murky water.

He was standing deep inside an abandoned, vaulted storm-drain tunnel situated fifty feet beneath the industrial fringe of Sector 9, Jiston. The brickwork surrounding the tunnel was crumbling, covered in dark moss and rust-stained iron pipes that dripped steadily into the concrete drainage channel below. High above, through a rusted iron grate set into the ceiling, the distant, muffled roar of evening city traffic and sirens filtered down into the damp darkness.

Raphael looked back over his shoulder. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

Behind him, the spatial portal did not leave a glowing archway or visible rift in the physical world. The exit was completely invisible, anchored seamlessly to a specific shadow between two heavy stone pillars. Only his internal connection to the Dungeon Core allowed him to feel the faint, humming pulse of the hidden door standing behind him.

Raphael pulled his deep hood lower over his eyes, shading his silver irises from the dim yellow streetlights filtering through the ceiling grate.

He walked down the dark, curved drainage tunnel, his long, effortless strides carrying him quickly toward the surface access point, a rusted iron ladder leading up to an abandoned railway yard near the edge of Hiwo District.

As he climbed the iron rungs and pushed open a heavy manhole cover, the cold, rainy night air of Jiston washed over his face.

The rain was falling in a steady, relentless drizzle, blurring the neon lights of distant skyscrapers that loomed against the dark, overcast sky. Neon billboards advertising high-tier guild gear and private security corporations flickered across the smoggy horizon. In the nearby streets, the red and blue flashing lights of Bureau patrol vehicles slowly cruised through the intersections, enforcing the newly established nighttime curfew in Sector 9 following the "Hiwo Anomaly."

Raphael stepped out onto the slick asphalt of the deserted rail yard, staying deep within the heavy shadows cast by rusted freight cars.

He listened intently, his enhanced auditory senses picking up the chatter of Bureau officers broadcasting over open tactical channels two miles away:

"Sector 9 patrol units, maintain perimeter sweep... no secondary mana readings detected... target ’Hiwo Dungeon’ remains officially closed..."

A cold, faint smile touched Raphael’s lips beneath the shadow of his hood.

Captain Vale and Officer Elena were out there somewhere, spending millions of Bureau credits mobilizing strike teams and running spectral scans, hunting for a ghost that didn’t exist while keeping an eye out for a "dormant civilian asset."

They had no idea that the "asset" was standing less than two miles from their command outpost, carrying the wealth of an ancient kingdom in his spatial inventory.

Raphael turned his back on the Bureau patrol lights and melted into the narrow, dark alleyways leading toward the heart of Sector 9’s underground district. It was time to find a market, convert his void-dross into untraceable credits, and secure his footing in the real world.

To think all this had happened in less than a month...
