I Summon Female Knights
Chapter 55: Inspection & The Deep Vaults
The heavy iron-reinforced doors of the master chamber swung open with a deep, resonant groan that echoed through the lofty corridors of the newly forged citadel.
Raphael stepped out into the grand hallway, clad in his dark tunic, the dual scabbards of the Vanguard of the Eclipse set comfortably across his broad back. Beside him walked Vanessa, her dark relic-staff held lightly in her right hand, her long silk robes sweeping silently across the polished obsidian floorboards.
The interior of the stronghold was vast and terrifyingly grand. Towering gothic arches stretched thirty feet overhead, inlaid with delicate, glowing veins of silvery-violet mana that pulsed in rhythmic harmony with the central Dungeon Core. The chaotic, crumbling stone of the Old King’s ruined citadel had been completely eradicated, replaced by dense, flawless adamantine-grade masonry that radiated cold, absolute permanence.
"The structural integrity of the main keep is complete, Lord Raphael," Vanessa reported softly, her cold violet eyes surveying the towering pillars.
"The domain’s spatial anchor has stabilized entirely around your soul-core. So long as your authority remains unbroken, this fortress cannot be breached by conventional dimensional strain."
"Let’s inspect the perimeter first," Raphael said, his voice echoing off the high stone ceilings as he directed his long, purposeful strides toward the outer ramparts.
They emerged onto the high battlements surrounding the central spire. The biting, cold wind of the sky-shattered domain whipped against Raphael’s dark, messy hair, but his elevated physical attributes brushed the chill aside like nothing. Looking out over the edge, the view was breathtaking. The endless purple twilight spanned across the infinite void, dotted by floating landmasses locked into silent, majestic orbits around the primary island.
Connecting the central keep to the forward islands were four massive, dark-iron chain bridges. Standing at rigid, eternal attention along these bridges were the ten Shadow-Guard Constructs, eight-foot-tall sentinels forged from compressed black stone and crackling void energy.
Raphael paused at the edge of the rampart, his eyes locking onto the nearest construct fifty yards below. Driven by curiosity, he channeled a tiny sliver of his Sovereign’s Veil, projecting an intentional wave of faint, hostile pressure toward the bridge.
THUM!
The response was instantaneous. All ten stone sentinels turned their horned helmets in unison, their carved eyes igniting with sharp, burning violet light. The nearest construct drew a colossal, broad-bladed claymore from its back with a harsh metallic scrape, dropping into a low, defensive stance that locked down the entire narrow span of the chain bridge in a fraction of a second.
"Disciplined," Raphael noted, a faint, cold smile touching his lips. He withdrew his aura, and the constructs immediately returned to their motionless, stone-like sentry posts. "They don’t think, they don’t hesitate, and they don’t sleep. The perimeter is solid."
"They are adequate guardians for the outer gates, my Lord," Vanessa agreed, bowing her head slightly. "However, if we are to expand our hold over this domain, the citadel itself requires deeper inspection. The System preserved several subterranean layers from the original realm structure during the reset, zones that belonged to the Old King before his fall."
Raphael turned back toward the interior. "Show me."
Vanessa led him deep into the heart of the keep, descending past the main throne room via a winding, spiral staircase carved directly into the central island’s bedrock. As they went deeper, the warm, bright glow of the main keep’s runic lighting began to dim, replaced by a colder, darker ambient shadow. The air grew thick, smelling faintly of ancient dust, dried blood, and dense, unrefined void-dross.
At the base of the staircase lay a vast, subterranean hall that stretched into pitch-black darkness. The stone here was rougher, scarred by ancient battles that predated the system’s integration of the rift.
Raphael tapped into his enhanced spatial awareness, his eyes cutting through the dark with clarity. At the far end of the cavernous hall stood a pair of colossal double doors forged entirely from dark, non-reflective void-metal. The surface was covered in a tangled mesh of thick, glowing crimson chains locked together by a massive, floating runic seal shaped like a horned skull.
[ANCIENT STRUCTURE DETECTED: THE ROYAL TREASURY VAULT]
- Status: Locked. Sealed by Former Sovereign Authority.
- Requirement to Unseal: Sovereign Core Authority (Tier 2+) OR Unrefined Kinetic Force.
"The Old King’s private vault," Raphael murmured, stopping three paces before the massive barrier.
He could feel a dense, stagnant pool of high-tier mana vibrating behind the metal doors, a concentration of raw power and ancient assets that had remained untouched since the previous ruler’s defeat.
Vanessa stepped up beside him, her relic-staff humming with dark violet light as her eyes scanned the complex runic seal. "The lock is anchored to the remnant aura of the former ruler. It was designed to repel any intruder below A-Tier strength. Shall I attempt to unravel the mana nodes, Lord Raphael? It may take time."
"No need," Raphael replied calmly. "I hold the core now. His authority is obsolete."
Raphael stepped forward, his tall frame towering over the floating runic seal. He reached out his right hand, his fingers clad in the sleek, dark leather of the Sovereign’s Shadow-Grip Gauntlets. Instead of using raw physical strength, he unleashed the full, dense current of his newly awakened Sovereign’s Veil, flooding his palm with a blinding, silvery-violet radiance.
He slammed his gauntleted palm directly onto the center of the horned skull seal.
CRACK-BOOM!
The collision echoed through the subterranean cavern like a localized thunderclap. The ancient, crimson runic seal flared violently, attempting to fight off the intruding aura, but Raphael’s elevated Sovereign authority crushed the remnant imprint of the Old King like brittle glass.
The thick crimson chains shattered into harmless, glowing particles that dissolved into the air. The massive void-metal doors let out a deep, echoing shudder before slowly grinding backward, opening into the forgotten darkness of the vault.
A wave of ancient, suffocating pressure rushed out from the dark chamber, carrying the heavy scent of old metal, high-tier mana crystals, and something cold and living lurking deep within the shadows.
Raphael stood at the threshold, his dark, messy hair shading his glowing silver eyes as he rested his hands on the hilts of his dual adamantine blades.
"Let’s see what the Old King left behind," Raphael said quietly, stepping through the doorway into the deep vault.
