I Summon Female Knights

Chapter 54: A Dead End

Deep within the subterranean levels of the Bureau’s Jiston Regional Headquarters, the atmosphere inside the Central Forensics and Mana Analysis Lab was thick with rising tension.

Row upon row of high-grade spectral scanners, mana-density centrifuges, and holographic analytical arrays hummed silently in the sterile, white-tiled room. Technical officers in white biohazard coats moved hurriedly between terminals, monitoring real-time biometric and residual-energy breakdowns pulled straight from the Hiwo rail depot.

Captain Vale stood at the main glass observation balcony overlooking the lab floor, his arms folded tightly over his crisp uniform. Beside him, Elena leaned against the railing with her hair drawn back, and her arms crossed as her sharp eyes tracked the rising red data bars flickering on the primary holographic screen.

"We ran the residual mana samples collected from the pit through the national registry three times," Senior Analyst Miller reported, stepping up to the balcony with a digital tablet in hand. His face was pale, his brow slick with sweat. "The results are... utterly inconclusive, Captain."

Vale’s dark eyes narrowed into sharp slits.

"Inconclusive? A C-Tier Void domain collapsed in under an hour, Miller. There has to be a spectral footprint."

"There is a footprint, sir, but it’s completely alien," Miller explained, tapping his tablet to project a complex, three-dimensional mana wave model between them.

"The residual energy pulled from the depot floor shows an unprecedented level of compressed, high-frequency kinetic force. It was singular, hyper-focused, and executed with... godlike precision, as unbelievable and funny as it sounds. But when we ran a deep-level biometric and mana-signature alignment against every registered hunter, citizen, and dormant asset in the global database, including our escaped subject, Raphael Matthews, we got zero matches."

A translucent window popped up on the primary screen, flashing in glaring, definitive text: [0.0% MATCH ALIGNMENT - UNIDENTIFIED SIGNATURE]

Elena let out a slow exhale, leaning back against the glass railing. "So Raphael wasn’t involved. Somehow, I find that hard to believe. That guy changed from dumb to something else in just a few days..."

"It’s statistically impossible for it to be Matthews," Vale stated, his voice cold and analytical as he stared at the blank match report. "

Matthews was an unawakened civilian two weeks ago. Even with an abnormal core awakening, jumping from baseline human to clearing a volatile C-Tier Void domain solo in less than an hour defies every known law of mana integration. We are looking for a ghost."

"A ghost who just erased a C-Tier threat before our strike teams even breached the perimeter," Elena added, her brow furrowed as she looked at the empty telemetry scans. "So what happened to the dungeon? Did the rift just implode? That is possible, but with a source."

"The telemetry devices confirm a total dimensional collapse," Miller reported, bringing up the environmental readings.

"The core was shattered, destabilizing the spatial anchor. The pocket dimension completely disintegrated into inert void-dross. The entire realm is gone."

"Obliterated," Vale muttered quietly, his mind running through the geopolitical implications.

To the Bureau, the danger was over. The threatening C-Tier Void gate was gone, erased from existence along with every monster inside it. They had no idea that the domain hadn’t been destroyed at all, but that it had been annexed, anchored, and transformed into a permanent floating fortress serving a newly awakened Sovereign.

"If the rift is destroyed and the mana reading doesn’t match Matthews, who cleared it?" Elena asked, her hand resting on her hip. "An unregistered S-Tier?"

"It has to be," Vale said, stepping back from the railing, his face set in a hard, grim line. "One of those elusive, high-tier wanderers who operate outside government jurisdiction. Someone with enough raw authority to crush a C-Tier draconic boss, shatter the core, and vanish into the night before our choppers touched down."

Elena tightened her jaw. "And what about our search for Raphael Matthews?"

Vale pulled a dark, encrypted communications tablet from his inner coat pocket and tossed it onto the table.

"Matthews is still out there, hiding somewhere in Jiston’s slums," Vale said coldly.

"He’s an escaped asset, but he’s a low-priority target compared to an unmonitored S-Tier walking our streets. Keep the covert reconnaissance units focused on the black-market districts for any trace of Matthews, but reassign Strike Team Alpha to monitor high-tier mana anomalies in Sector 9."

Vale turned on his heel, walking toward the lab exit without looking back.

"Classify the Hiwo depot incident as a resolved anomaly caused by an unidentified S-Tier operative," Vale ordered as the glass doors slid open. "File the report and close the case."

"Understood, Captain," Elena replied, taking the tablet.

As the lab doors sealed shut, a quiet calm returned to the Bureau. They were entirely convinced the dungeon was dead and the threat was neutralized, blissfully ignorant that just beyond the veil of their reality, Raphael Matthews was building an empire in the shadows.

Captain Vale’s rigid adherence to Bureau protocol was precisely the kind of arrogant oversight that allowed empire-builders to thrive in the dark. In his mind, an "Unknown" evaluation on standard equipment was merely a bureaucratic anomaly.

Had he paid closer attention to the military-grade diagnostic logs, he would have realized that Raphael’s power wasn’t unmeasurable because it was weak; it was unmeasurable because the Bureau’s instruments lacked the scale to register a Sovereign’s core.

Choosing to hunt a phantom S-Tier while leaving an "Unknown" to roam was a logical choice for a bureaucrat, but a fatal mistake for a hunter.

...

Meanwhile, far beyond the reach of Earth’s radar arrays, Raphael sat at the edge of a mahogany desk, reviewing the glowing runic nodes of his newly acquired passive skills.

The quiet rustle of dark silk echoed through the chamber as Vanessa approached. She stopped three paces away, resting her dark relic-staff against her side, and bowed her head in a smooth, reverent motion.

"Lord Raphael," she spoke softly, her silk-like voice cutting through the quiet hum of the room. "The ten Shadow-Guard Constructs have taken up their posts along the outer chain bridges. The perimeter is absolute."

As she spoke, Raphael’s luminous silver eyes flickered slightly. Driven by pure instinct, his neural processing passively scanned her status metrics through their soul-bond.

[SUMMON STATUS: VANESSA FENCER]

- Class: Dark Saintess (A-Tier)

- Master: Raphael Matthews (Sovereign)

- Loyalty: 25 / 100 (Increased from 15 - Rising Reverence)

- Newly Acquired Equipment: True Armor of the Dark Saintess

- Effect: A woven layer of high-density void-silk that passively absorbs 40% of incoming kinetic and elemental impact, dynamically scaling with her Master’s core authority.

---

Raphael noted the shift in her metrics with a subtle, inward nod. A jump to 25 loyalty meant her allegiance was no longer just a system-enforced contract, but she was beginning to genuinely acknowledge his right to rule.

Furthermore, the True Armor of the Dark Saintess meant her defense would automatically scale as he grew stronger, ensuring she could hold her own in higher-tier domains.

"Good," Raphael said, his voice steady as he closed the interface. He looked up at her through his messy dark bangs, his silver eyes flashing with quiet resolve.
