Chapter 709: Chapter 432: The Terror of the Mixed-Gender Double Beatdown

As much as she liked kittens, she was also afraid of ones that were mean to her.

The pain of a scratch would be one thing, but if her parents found out she’d gotten scratched for petting a stray cat, she would be in for a lecture.

"Really, I’m not lying! Just reach out and try, you’ll see." Seeing her friend’s hesitation, Zhou Tongtong took her hand, pulled it over, and placed it on the Little White Cat’s head.

"Huh?!!!"

"It’s really not being mean to me!" Wang Duoduo said in surprise. Then she happily joined Zhou Tongtong in petting the stray cat.

The Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat lay on the grass, enjoying the two little girls’ attention. They squinted their eyes in comfort, letting out faint meows.

...

The clouds blocking the sun were blown away by the wind, and golden sunlight poured onto the campus.

The exquisitely curvaceous Su Yue walked out of the cafeteria after finishing lunch.

On the way back to the faculty office, she noticed two students squatting by the distant fish pond. From her angle, she couldn’t tell what they were doing.

’Those two little ones aren’t secretly feeding the goldfish, are they?’

Since the school year had only just begun, it wasn’t uncommon for new students to be caught secretly feeding the goldfish. Therefore, Su Yue decided to go over and see if that was what those two were doing.

CLICK, CLICK, CLICK...

Dressed in a white blouse and a black pencil skirt, Su Yue swayed gracefully as she walked toward the fish pond in her high heels.

The two stray cats, eyes closed as they enjoyed the attention from Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo, suddenly heard an unfamiliar sound and immediately snapped their eyes open.

At the same time, the four little hands stroking them came to a halt.

"What are you two doing?"

A pleasant, melodic voice came from behind them. Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo turned around, quickly got to their feet, and greeted her politely, "Hello, Teacher Su."

School had been in session for a few days, and Su Yue had taught music to several classes, including the one Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo were in. That was why they recognized her.

"Cats?" Su Yue’s gaze fell upon the two kittens scrambling up from the ground, and she instantly understood what the two little girls had been doing.

It was easy to tell from a glance that the Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat were strays with no owner.

In her years working at the school, Su Yue had seen several incidents where students were scratched while trying to pet strays that had wandered onto campus, which led to parents coming to demand an explanation. Because of this, she spoke to the two little girls in a serious tone.

"Stray cats can be aggressive. You two shouldn’t be playing with them. It wouldn’t be good if you got scratched."

"Meow...?!!!" The Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat looked up at Su Yue, trying to protest that they would never scratch Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo. Unfortunately, their protests just sounded like noisy meowing to Su Yue, who couldn’t understand them at all.

Zhou Tongtong glanced at the two meowing strays and whispered to Su Yue, "Teacher Su, Little White and Little Black are really good. They won’t scratch us."

"It’s true what Zhou Tongtong said. These two strays are especially good," Wang Duoduo chimed in.

Hearing how certain the two little girls were that the strays wouldn’t scratch them, Su Yue shook her head and spoke with earnest gravity.

"You say these two strays are good and won’t scratch you, but in my years as a teacher, I’ve seen several students get scratched by strays that seemed perfectly gentle. So it’s still better to be careful."

Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo nodded obediently. Seeing this, Su Yue added, "The lunch break is about to start. You should head back to your classroom."

"Okay," Zhou Tongtong and Wang Duoduo replied softly. They both looked back, giving the Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat one last, reluctant glance before taking hands and heading toward their classroom.

After the two little girls left, only Su Yue and the two stray cats remained, staring at each other in a standoff.

"You two little rascals, if the patrolling school security guards see you, you’ll be in for it. It’s better if you don’t come to our school anymore," Su Yue said to the two cute strays, her lips barely moving.

Then, she turned and swayed away, heading for the faculty office.

"Meow...?" The Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat tilted their heads, watching her slender figure walk away. For some reason, they weren’t as wary of this human as they usually were of others.

"Meow... Let’s go home!" Looking away from Su Yue, the Little White Cat said to its companion.

"Meow... Before we go home, let’s swing by the park for a bit," the Little Black Cat suggested.

"Meow... Okay!" the Little White Cat nodded, then asked, a bit puzzled, "What are we going to do at the park?"

"Meow... What else is there to do at a park? We’re going to see if we can catch a big rat, of course!" said the Little Black Cat.

"Meow... It’s the middle of the day. All the rats are hiding in their holes, asleep. Going to the park now would be a wasted trip!" said the Little White Cat.

"Meow... We’ve got nothing better to do, so let’s go look! If we don’t find anything, we can just head home after," said the Little Black Cat.

With that, the two little ones deftly made their way out of the school and headed for the park.

Back in the faculty office, Su Yue returned to her desk and sat down.

She took her phone out of a drawer, opened a messaging app, and sent Lin Li a text: "Have you had lunch yet?"

Several minutes passed with no reply. Just as she was about to put the phone back in the drawer, it chimed. Lin Li had sent a reply.

"Just about to eat. Did you need something?"

"No, nothing. I was just bored, so I thought I’d ask if you’d eaten."

"Oh, okay then. I’m going to eat lunch now. Talk later."

"..."

The conversation was over in less than three minutes.

Su Yue stared at the chat history, muttering a few words of discontent before putting her phone back in the drawer.

...

In the perilous wilderness, under the shade of a large, leafy tree, a bonfire blazed, its wood crackling loudly.

Marinated chunks of lamb, skewered on branches, were propped up next to the bonfire. As they roasted in the blazing flames, they released a tempting, mouth-watering aroma.

BUBBLE, BUBBLE, BUBBLE...

The pot hanging over the bonfire rumbled faintly; the water inside had come to a boil.

Lin Li glanced at the message from Su Yue, typed out a quick reply, and ended the conversation.

He then put the phone back in his pocket, reached over to lift the pot lid, and added the prepared clams and tofu.

After replacing the lid, he picked up a nearby shaker and sprinkled cumin powder over the fragrant lamb skewers.

Over thirty hefty lamb skewers, plus a pot of clam and tofu soup—that was his lunch for the day.

"So fragrant! The lamb skewers should be done." After sprinkling them with cumin, Lin Li pulled one of the skewers from the ground.

HFF...

He blew on the steaming skewer a few times, then opened his mouth and pulled off a piece of lamb with his teeth.

’It’s cooked,’ Lin Li muttered to himself after tasting the meat. ’Didn’t marinate it long enough this time. Next time, I’ll have to marinate the lamb in advance.’

A moment later, Lin Li piled the thirty-odd cooked lamb skewers onto a plate and carried it to a table. He then sprinkled a handful of chopped scallions into the boiling clam and tofu soup before ladling himself a large, full bowl.

"It’s still a bit hot at midday," Lin Li grumbled as he sat down, ready to eat, listening to the chirping of cicadas all around him.

Although the temperature had dropped a few degrees from what it had been, it was still quite hot overall, especially around noon.

Even in the cool shade of the tree, the occasional gusts of hot air still felt a little uncomfortable.

’Since it’s a little too warm, I’ll just have to create a more comfortable environment myself.’

To make his lunch more comfortable, Lin Li mobilized the Spiritual Energy within his Dantian and began creating ice spikes.

He created dozens of half-meter-long ice spikes and planted them in the ground around his dining table, forming a semicircle.

The crystal-clear ice spikes emanated a biting chill, rapidly lowering the temperature of his immediate surroundings.

The occasional gusts of hot air now became refreshing, cool breezes. Lin Li smiled in satisfaction, thinking to himself, ’If I run into hot weather like this out in the wild again, I can always do this for lunch.’

Then, he plucked a skewer from the tall pile in front of him and began to eat with gusto.
