Chapter 708: Chapter 432: The Terrifying Mixed Doubles

「Rongxi Primary School」

Clouds drifted in from the distance, obscuring the sun high in the sky. Occasional gusts of wind made the campus trees rustle.

It was lunchtime, so all the students were eating in the campus cafeteria, leaving parts of the campus deserted.

In a corner of the campus sat a beautiful fish pond where many small goldfish swam about. Sensing a threat, they did their best to stay away from the bank.

Two small cats, one black and one white, were crouched before the pond, their gazes following the little goldfish swimming to and fro.

"MEOW... These little fish look delicious! Why don’t we catch one and have a taste?" the Little Black Cat said to his companion.

"MEOW... We’d better not! If Zhou Tongtong finds out we caught her school’s fish to eat, she’ll get angry." The Little White Cat thought for a moment, rejecting his companion’s suggestion to eat a goldfish.

The Little Black Cat raised a paw and rubbed its cheek. He didn’t want to make Zhou Tongtong angry either, so he dismissed the thought of catching a fish from the pond to eat.

As the two little stray cats sat crouched by the pond, watching the very tasty-looking goldfish swim to and fro, many students began to walk out of the bustling cafeteria in the distance, having finished their lunch.

After lunch, the students could play freely for a while before they had to return to their classrooms for a midday rest.

Zhou Tongtong and her best friend, Wang Duoduo, walked out of the cafeteria hand in hand.

"Zhou Tongtong, take this..." Wang Duoduo glanced around, then secretively pulled a piece of chocolate from her pocket and handed it to Zhou Tongtong.

"Huh?!!!" Zhou Tongtong’s face filled with surprise. She quickly took the chocolate from her best friend, stuffed it into her pocket, and whispered,

"Wang Duoduo, you actually brought snacks to school? And it’s chocolate! Aren’t you afraid a teacher will find out?"

The school prohibited students from bringing snacks. Getting caught meant a scolding.

They might even tell your parents. For students, a scolding was one thing, but if your parents were told, that was a disaster—something they couldn’t handle.

After all, the prospect of a ’tag-team’ punishment from both mom and dad was terrifying for a child their age.

The last time Zhou Tongtong brought cookies to feed the goldfish, she was discovered by an especially pretty music teacher and got a scolding. She hadn’t dared to bring snacks to school since.

"It’s fine. We’ll eat it in secret, and no one will find out," the carefree Wang Duoduo said with a giggle, looking very brave.

"You’re so daring," Zhou Tongtong mumbled.

"Even if a teacher doesn’t see, if another student finds out you secretly brought chocolate to school and snitches, you’ll be done for. So you shouldn’t bring it anymore."

Wang Duoduo nodded, then told Zhou Tongtong to eat the chocolate quickly.

Zhou Tongtong, who was full from lunch, couldn’t possibly eat chocolate right now, so she told her best friend she would eat it later.

The two little girls held hands and prepared to head back to the classroom. At that moment, however, Zhou Tongtong sensed something and turned her head to look toward the fish pond in the corner of the schoolyard.

"What is it?" Wang Duoduo asked her best friend.

"Little White and Little Black are over there," Zhou Tongtong said to Wang Duoduo, pointing toward the fish pond.

"Hey, it really is them!" Wang Duoduo said with surprise, spotting two small figures—one black and one white—crouched in front of the distant fish pond.

The two little girls then hurried over in the direction of the fish pond.

The Little Black Cat and Little White Cat were staring unblinkingly at the goldfish swimming about in the pond. Suddenly, their small ears twitched a few times, and they lifted their heads to look to the side.

"MEOW... Zhou Tongtong." The two little strays greeted Zhou Tongtong as she walked toward them, their gazes then shifting to Wang Duoduo, who was holding her hand.

"Little White, Little Black, you two came to school to see me again!" Zhou Tongtong said to the two little strays with a radiant smile.

Then, she let go of Wang Duoduo’s hand, crouched down in front of the two little strays, and reached out to stroke their heads.

Wang Duoduo watched Zhou Tongtong with envy. She went to her friend’s side and squatted down, and the two little strays watched her warily.

"Her name is Wang Duoduo. She’s my best friend. Didn’t you guys see her last time? Don’t be so scared, she won’t hurt you," Zhou Tongtong said, reassuring the two little strays.

"I won’t hurt you," Wang Duoduo added, nodding in agreement with Zhou Tongtong, her expression earnest.

"..." For Zhou Tongtong’s sake, the two little strays relaxed their guard against Wang Duoduo a little.

Seeing Zhou Tongtong petting the two little strays so freely made Wang Duoduo’s hands itch with envy. She also reached out, wanting to pet them a few times.

But the instant she reached her hand out, the two little strays immediately cried out at her.

"MEOW..."

Startled by their reaction, Wang Duoduo snatched her hand back and looked at her best friend with an aggrieved expression.

"Hey! Don’t be like that, you two. It’s okay to let Wang Duoduo pet you a little," Zhou Tongtong said to the two little strays.

The Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat exchanged a look, then nodded at Zhou Tongtong.

"Wang Duoduo, Little White and Little Black said it’s okay for you to pet them now," Zhou Tongtong told her best friend.

"Really?" Wang Duoduo asked doubtfully, remembering the cats’ attitude toward her just a moment ago.
