Chapter 629: Chapter 394: Spiritual Energy Infusion, a Sharing that Defies Common Sense

The Spiritual Energy that floats freely in the air is normally chaotic. Only when someone begins cultivating is it drawn in. Then, it flows in an orderly fashion toward the Cultivator, gathers around them, and is absorbed into their body for refinement.

Under the bright sun, in the shade of a large, leafy tree.

A little human girl, with no conscious knowledge of cultivation, was drawing the free-floating Spiritual Energy from the surrounding air and gathering it around her body.

This gathered Spiritual Energy was absorbed into Zhou Tongtong’s body and then rapidly refined.

Then, she unconsciously released it again, allowing it to permeate the bodies of the two small stray cats and accelerate their breakthrough to the First Rank Initial Stage.

It was a well-known fact that the Spiritual Energy a Cultivator obtained through cultivation could only be used by themself; it could not be shared with other Cultivators.

Furthermore, researchers at the Spiritual Energy Research Institute had run experiments proving that this applied not only to Cultivators but to Mutant Beasts as well.

Yet now, the oblivious Zhou Tongtong was somehow infusing the Spiritual Energy she had refined into the two small stray cats.

Under normal circumstances, if a Cultivator tried such a thing, the Spiritual Energy infused into the cats’ bodies would be instantly rejected and dissipate into the air.

But the scene currently unfolding was utterly astonishing.

The two small stray cats, having already awakened their Spirituality, were smoothly absorbing the Spiritual Energy Zhou Tongtong infused into them. They rapidly made it their own, with no signs of rejection whatsoever.

After absorbing the Spiritual Energy from Zhou Tongtong, the Spiritual Energy Waves emanating from the two small cats visibly grew stronger.

This impossible scene, one that defied all common sense, was taking place in the green space of an ordinary residential complex, completely unnoticed.

One could only imagine that if word of this ever got out, it would undoubtedly make front-page headlines and attract people with sinister intentions.

While Zhou Tongtong was unconsciously infusing her refined Spiritual Energy into the two small stray cats happily lapping up mung bean soup...

...Xia Qing, her hair tied in a ponytail and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, was standing inside the police station, staring blankly at a middle-aged couple locked behind iron bars.

"Miss Xia, the car owner said that if you don’t pay for the damages, he won’t sign the settlement agreement..." the female Security Officer beside her said.

"What on earth were you thinking? Not only did you scratch someone’s car, but you actually started a fight with the owner?" Xia Qing demanded, suppressing her rage and speaking in a voice devoid of any emotion to Zhou Dazhuang and Wang Haiyan.

"It wasn’t our fault! He suddenly pulled his car out of an alley, which made our tricycle hit it.

"And after the crash, he got out and immediately started screaming at us. That’s why we hit him..." Wang Haiyan said.

Zhou Dazhuang sat on the bench in silence, his head bowed, lost in thought.

Hearing this, the female Security Officer immediately corrected her. "You were driving against traffic, a violation of the rules. You were at fault. The car owner did nothing wrong."

Xia Qing raised a hand and rubbed the bridge of her nose. She had originally planned to run an errand at the bank while her daughter was napping, then stop by the market to buy some groceries before heading home.

But just as she was about to reach the market, she got a sudden call from the police station telling her to come down.

Confused, Xia Qing had asked the officer what it was about. After she understood the situation, she was furious.

But she didn’t have a heart of stone. After the call, she changed course and headed to the station to deal with it.

"Xia Qing, you have to help us! If you don’t, we’ll be detained for fifteen days," Wang Haiyan begged, her face a mask of misery.

"This is the last time I’m helping you. If anything like this happens again, I’m not getting involved," Xia Qing said, her face a blank mask.

She then turned to say something to the female Security Officer before leaving the holding area with her.

A short while later, after Xia Qing fronted the money for damages, Zhou Dazhuang and Wang Haiyan were released.

"Thank you, Xia Qing. We’ll definitely pay you back as soon as we make some money..." Wang Haiyan said gratefully.

"Mm," Xia Qing didn’t say much more, just grunting in acknowledgment. She walked over to her parked electric scooter, put the key in, started it, and headed off toward the market.

"What’s she so smug for? Just because she has a little money? That money was left to them by my little brother anyway..." Zhou Dazhuang, who had been silent until now, grumbled under his breath after Xia Qing had gone.

"This is all your fault!" Wang Haiyan snapped angrily. "If you hadn’t secretly taken the money Xia Qing gave us to gamble, time and time again, we wouldn’t be in this mess."

"Er..." In the wrong, Zhou Dazhuang was rendered speechless by her scolding. He turned and walked away.

"It’s almost dark out! Where are you going?" Wang Haiyan yelled after him.

"I’m going to see a friend. I won’t be home tonight, so just eat dinner by yourself," Zhou Dazhuang said.

"..." Wang Haiyan watched her husband walk further and further away, then cursed angrily, "Then don’t ever come back! Just drop dead out there for all I care!"

After her angry outburst, she got on her electric food-cart tricycle and left.

As he walked away, Zhou Dazhuang suddenly stopped. He turned to watch his wife disappear on her food-cart tricycle and muttered to himself.

’Dammit, it’s just about money, isn’t it? If I want to, I can make a big pile of cash in no time.’

After standing by the side of the street for several minutes, Zhou Dazhuang pulled his phone from his pocket and called a friend.

"Hello."

"It’s me."

"Oh, it’s you. What’s up? Why the call?"

"That job you told me about last time..."

"Yeah? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to do it? What, changed your mind?"

"I’m a bit tight on cash. I need a lot of money, fast, so..."

"I get it, I get it. Come on over. I’ll set it up for you right away."

After the call ended, Zhou Dazhuang headed for a bus stop in the distance.

A silver van drove into the complex and pulled into a parking spot. The doors opened.

Lin Li and Su Yue stepped out. They began unloading camping gear from the back of the van and carrying it toward the building entrance.

"Huh?!!!"

The emergency lights in the hallway were on, but the elevator’s display was dark.

Lin Li set the two large, heavy bags he was carrying on the floor. "Looks like the power’s out!"

"Let me check the residents’ group chat and see what’s happening," Su Yue said, pulling out her phone and opening the app.

’Urgent Notice: Due to a circuit failure, the complex will experience a power outage for one to one and a half hours. We ask for your patience.’

After reading the urgent notice from the residents’ committee, Su Yue put her phone away and turned to explain to Lin Li.

"An hour to an hour and a half! That’s a pretty long time. Looks like we’ll have to eat out tonight," Lin Li said.

"It’s okay, I have candles at my place. I’ll just start making dinner early while it’s still light out," Su Yue said with a smile.

"Huh..." Lin Li said, surprised. "You actually have candles at your place?!!!"

Power outages were rare these days.

Even when they did happen, electricians usually restored power quickly, so most people didn’t keep candles at home anymore.

"They’re scented candles. A coworker gave them to me," Su Yue explained. If not for that gift, she’d have had to run out to a corner store to buy some.

"Oh, I see," Lin Li nodded. Then he and Su Yue started carrying their things upstairs.

Luckily, Su Yue didn’t live on a high floor. Otherwise, going up and down without the elevator would have been exhausting—for Su Yue, that is.
