Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Acceptance (2)
Kong Guocai then pointed to the rows of self-built houses on the north side of the village road. "See the ones with the sea-blue exterior walls? Those are all company dorms. I live around here too."
As he spoke, he led the group of new hires toward the nearest self-built house. This one had a small yard in front, where the previous owner had planted many flowers and plants. There was also a well.
"Let me see about this dorm..." Kong Guocai flipped through the records in his file. "This one has four floors. The first floor is a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. The remaining three floors have nine rooms. One is already taken, so the other eight will be for you male employees. We’ll assign them by employee ID!"
They went over the employee IDs.
Soon enough, Zhang Chengdong and the seven other men were assigned to the building.
Just then, a young man with glasses came down from the second floor. "Manager Kong, are these the new hires?"
"Oh? Mingyuan! How are you feeling?"
"I got an IV drip, so I’m much better now." Lu Mingyuan’s face was pale. He was the young man recommended by Researcher Hu Fei from the Lingnan Agricultural and Forestry Research Institute, and his major was environmental engineering.
Kong Guocai turned to the other new hires and, suppressing a laugh, warned them, "Since you all just got here, whatever you do, don’t just go and eat any of that raw marinated seafood. Just look at this poor guy here."
GULP! "Is it really that bad?"
A girl majoring in food engineering adjusted her glasses. "Out-of-towners really shouldn’t try Chaoshan-style raw marinated seafood. It will definitely give you diarrhea. Back in my hometown, Chaozhou, it used to be all homemade. Only in the last few years have shops started selling pre-made versions, but they’re mostly made in small workshops, so the quality is inconsistent. Besides, you’re not from around here, so your gut flora won’t adapt that quickly. You should wait until you’ve lived here a year or two before you try it."
"Yeah, yeah, I’ve had diarrhea so bad these past few days I almost collapsed. Don’t eat it," Lu Mingyuan said, a look of lingering fear on his face.
Manager Kong added, "Speaking of food, you can have all three of your daily meals at the company cafeteria, and it’s all free. Of course, you can also cook for yourselves if you want, but just be careful with electricity and fire safety."
"The company’s eel rice and char siu rice are pretty good," Lu Mingyuan chimed in.
But Kong Guocai just gave a knowing smile.
’It’s good, sure, but not when you have to eat it every single day.’
Soon after, Kong Guocai led the remaining eight new hires to the other dorm buildings, keeping in mind the need to house men and women separately.
The five female employees were assigned to Zhang Xinyi’s dorm building.
The remaining three male employees were assigned to Li Zixuan’s building.

Meanwhile, Jiang Miao had just returned and immediately rushed to the laboratory area opposite the headquarters to formally accept the lab.
The third-party company in charge of the inspection briefed him on their findings, including the operational status of the instruments and equipment.
"General Manager Jiang, after a week of inspection, these are the issues we found." The business manager from the third-party inspection company handed him a report that was over two hundred and eighty pages thick.
Jiang Miao took it and, instead of casually setting it aside, began to look through it carefully.
He flipped to the first page.
[Edible Fungi Lab, Decontamination Room 1: Negative pressure door seal is faulty. During 100 consecutive tests, air leaks occurred 8 times...]
Jiang Miao looked up. "Let’s go through them one by one."
Beside him, Manager Du from the lab contracting company broke out in a cold sweat. Every time they had to face a client’s final inspection, it was a huge pain.
They went to the first decontamination room in the Edible Fungi Lab and activated the negative pressure door.
Using his appraisal panel, Jiang Miao quickly saw the source of the problem. He raised an eyebrow and turned to Manager Du. "The sealing ring probably wasn’t installed correctly. It’s likely the screws on the inner ring weren’t fully tightened, causing them to press against part of the ring."
Regardless of the situation, Manager Du from the contracting company immediately yelled to a few engineers, "Hurry up and open it up to check!"
"Uh..."
The engineers reluctantly opened the casing. They didn’t believe an outsider like Jiang Miao, but he was the client—the one who pays the bills.
A moment later, after using an electric drill to remove the casing screws, they took off the three sealing rings and carefully inspected the grooves where they were seated.
Soon, the engineers were looking at each other in dismay.
"What is it? What’s the situation?" Manager Du asked anxiously.
One of the middle-aged engineers replied awkwardly, "A few of the screws really weren’t tightened all the way, and the screw heads were pressing against the sealing ring."
"What are you standing around for? Fix it!" Manager Du was getting angry, inwardly cursing his subordinates for their sloppy work. They were specialists in lab construction; how could they make such a rookie mistake?
Jiang Miao flipped to the next page.
[Decontamination Room 2: Issue with disinfectant aerosol spray. In 100 tests, atomization was insufficient 23 times...]
They went straight to the second decontamination room and turned on the eight sets of atomizer nozzles.
"The nozzles are fine. It must be insufficient pressure, probably an issue with the voltage in the control circuit. Have an electrician check it."
"Yes, yes..." Manager Du nodded like a chicken pecking at grain.
After checking the circuit, they found that, sure enough, the connection on one of the wires was loose.
Wiping the sweat from his brow, Manager Du started to suck up to him. "General Manager Jiang, you’re incredible! It’s like you have x-ray vision."
The engineers also dropped their earlier disdain and became as obedient as schoolchildren, troubleshooting the problems according to Jiang Miao’s instructions.
There were over one hundred and eighty issues in total. Although most of them were minor, Jiang Miao didn’t want anything going wrong when he was conducting his own experiments.
