Chapter 82: Chapter 77: The Person in the Mirror, Carrying the Bridal Sedan Chair (Part 2)

"It wasn’t me."

Fear exploded in her heart. She broke down completely. Heedless of anything else, she turned and fled.

She had to get away from this bizarre woman’s boudoir.

Away from this bizarre vanity.

The bizarre copper mirror.

"Wang Xinru, Wang Xinru, Wang Xinru..."

A voice called out from behind her.

That was her name!

How did it know?

Wang Xinru’s scalp went numb, but she kept her mouth firmly covered and ran for her life.

She didn’t know how long she ran.

Suddenly, she realized she hadn’t even left the room. The distance between her and the door hadn’t changed.

"Wooo..."

Finally, she broke down, crying her eyes out.

Suddenly,

an icy hand clamped down on her shoulder.

"Ahh!"

Wang Xinru screamed, but her mouth was covered again.

"Are you crazy?"

"Didn’t I tell you not to scream and shout?"

Fifth Brother’s impatient voice rang out.

But Wang Xinru felt a sense of relief. The vision before her vanished, and she saw a face exactly like her own, less than a finger’s breadth from hers.

"AHHHH!!!"

She tried to scream again, but a hand clamped firmly over her mouth, reducing her cries to muffled whimpers.

"Calm down."

Song Zichao’s voice sounded.

Only then did Wang Xinru notice her situation. She was sitting at the vanity, her upper body leaning forward at a 75-degree angle to the mirror’s surface. Her nose was almost touching the copper mirror.

A hand was clamped tightly over her mouth, and behind her stood Song Zichao and Fifth Brother.

"Sob..."

Wang Xinru spun around and threw her arms around Song Zichao, clinging to him for dear life.

At that moment, Fifth Brother was covering Wang Xinru’s mouth while Wang Xinru was hugging Song Zichao.

The three of them were in a rather strange position.

"I’m fucking done with this,"

Fifth Brother griped, "You’re not taking this chance to feel up my bro, are you?"

Er...

Song Zichao’s mouth twitched. Just as he was about to speak, he noticed a crack in the copper mirror.

’Did this copper mirror have a crack before?’

The thought puzzled him.

...

...

Ye Xue.

She had followed the bartender and three other men into the village, too panicked to notice her surroundings.

They ran nonstop.

Away from the main road.

Avoiding the hordes of Mutants.

As they ran, they found themselves in an alley. In the middle of the muddy path sat an abandoned bridal sedan chair, leaving only a narrow gap to pass through.

The sedan chair was bright red, embroidered with red flowers, giving it a festive air.

Looking closer, they saw it was completely untouched by mud.

Spotlessly clean.

Ye Xue was startled and couldn’t help but curse, "Did somebody’s mom die or what? Who leaves a damn sedan chair in the middle of the road!"

The group prepared to go around it.

One of them accidentally touched the sedan chair. His body stiffened, and he suddenly gave up on escaping. Instead, he gripped the carrying poles with both hands, squatted down, and got ready to lift.

His posture was perfect, just like a professional palanquin bearer.

His squatting blocked the path for those behind him.

"What are you doing?"

"Get up and run!"

A hand shoved the man.

And then,

the owner of that hand also went rigid. He stopped pushing, moved to the other end of the same carrying pole, squatted down, and placed his shoulder under it, steadying it with his hands.

He seemed to have become another bearer.

Another man, who must have touched the sedan chair at some point, repeated the process. He went to one end of the other carrying pole and squatted down, preparing to lift.

"Three down, one to go?"

The bartender watched the scene, a sense of the absurd and bizarre washing over him. "If I join in, would that make a full set?"

If the time and place weren’t so utterly terrifying, he might have laughed and made a joke or two.

"ROAR."

The roar of a monster came from behind them.

"What’s going on? Let’s go!"

Ye Xue was at the very back. The sky was dim, and in her panic, she couldn’t see clearly. She had no idea what had happened and could only stare anxiously and confusedly at the three men squatting on the ground.

"I don’t know."

"Bunch of psychos."

The bartender didn’t have time to think. He just felt that something was wrong and wanted to get away from these people and leave quickly.

"ROAR."

A monster appeared up ahead as well.

They were surrounded!

"Holy shit!"

The bartender’s face paled in terror. He looked left and right, only to find there was nowhere to hide.

Finally, his gaze fell upon the sedan chair’s curtain.

’Maybe...’

’Hide inside?’

"WHOOSH."

While he hesitated, Ye Xue acted in a flash and dove inside.

"You!"

The bartender instinctively reached out to grab her, but the moment he touched the curtain, his body went stiff, and he became the fourth bearer.

Ye Xue didn’t know what was happening outside. Hidden inside the sedan chair, she couldn’t see a thing, but she could hear the sounds from outside.

"ROAR."

Two monsters were approaching.

She gripped the corner of her clothes tightly, desperately telling herself to stay quiet and not move, but her body couldn’t help but tremble with fear.

Fortunately, the sedan chair showed no signs of shaking.

The sounds of flesh being torn and chewed came from outside. What brought even more despair and terror was the arrival of several more monsters.

’Please don’t find me, please don’t find me,’

Ye Xue prayed frantically in her heart. ’If I can just survive this, I swear I’ll never drive recklessly again! I’ll never throw scalding hotpot soup on someone again! I promise...’

’I’ll be a good person.’

Before she knew it, her palms were slick with sweat.

Her energy was draining rapidly.

Waves of exhaustion washed over her. If not for the adrenaline pumping through her system from the intense stress, she would have already collapsed.

At a certain moment.

’Why aren’t those four men screaming?’

’Don’t they feel pain?’

The thought suddenly struck Ye Xue. She subconsciously wanted to lift the curtain and see what was happening outside.

In the end, she didn’t dare.

’Huh? What’s wrong with me?’

At the same time, Ye Xue became aware of her own condition: she was ice-cold and her body was stiff. She couldn’t move. Even with all her might, it was useless, as if she had been hit with an immobilization technique.

Terrified, she tried to open her mouth to scream, but found she couldn’t even speak!

A faint, ethereal voice whispered in her ear:

The chair arrives before the door,The guests await on either shore.Pipes and flutes for the lady fair,Crackers burst throughout the air.Phoenixes bring a joyful pair,Fine jade is sown with utmost care.Where joy resides, good omens bloom,A worthy bride for a worthy groom.

The voice was inexplicably cold and mysterious.
