Chapter 81: Chapter 77: The Person in the Mirror, Carrying the Bridal Sedan Chair

Before the vanity.

It was empty.

"Where? There’s no one there."

"I think you’re just too tense."

Song Zichao’s companion frowned and scolded, "No matter what happens, don’t just scream. If you want to die, don’t drag us down with you."

"Women are such a hassle. Cowardly and always spouting nonsense."

"I..."

The young woman felt wronged and fearful, unsure of what to say for a moment.

"Fifth Brother, what’s with your tone?"

Song Zichao nudged his friend’s shoulder and said in a low voice, "It’s perfectly normal for people to have auditory and visual hallucinations when they’re on edge."

"Besides, this room looks exactly like an ancient lady’s boudoir. It’s also cold and eerie, which is genuinely creepy."

"Isn’t it normal for a young girl like her to be scared?"

Fifth Brother: "I just don’t want anything to happen."

Song Zichao: "But nothing *has* happened, has it?"

Fifth Brother was about to say more when he heard suppressed sobs. He couldn’t help but glance at the young woman. Seeing her expression, tense and terrified to the point of breaking down, he ultimately held back from scolding her again.

Song Zichao comforted her, "Miss, we’ve all been thrown into this mess suddenly. Everyone’s on the verge of a breakdown. Please try to understand. My friend, Fifth Brother, didn’t mean anything by it. He just wants to survive."

The young woman didn’t care about Fifth Brother’s scolding at all. She was truly terrified!

She had really seen someone in the mirror!

SOB SOB.

Now, she was crying with her hand over her mouth, trying her best not to make a sound. Her eyes were glued to the vanity, and she didn’t dare look away.

Seeing this, Song Zichao sighed. He didn’t say anything more, instead starting to discuss their next move with Fifth Brother.

Unfortunately, the two of them had too little information. How could they possibly come to any meaningful conclusion?

"Sigh."

"One minute we’re in a bar, the next we’re in this weird place. Perfectly normal people are suddenly turning into man-eating monsters. What the hell is going on?"

"The only thing we can do now is hide here and wait until daybreak to decide our next move."

"Yeah. That woman from earlier was really capable. It would be great if we could get her on our side."

"And whose fault is that? You just *had* to go and ’help,’ didn’t you? Look at the mess we’re in now."

"I... Sigh..."

Song Zichao heard his friend’s complaint and was about to explain himself.

The sound of a fierce battle came from not too far away.

"That sound... It sounds like a group of people ganging up on a monster?"

Fifth Brother’s eyes lit up as he spoke.

"Let’s go check it out?"

Song Zichao asked.

"Let’s get this straight first. You’re not allowed to get hot-headed and charge in again."

"Don’t worry."

"If it’s dangerous, we’ll come back and shut the courtyard gate behind us. If it’s safe, we can figure out what to do then."

"Okay."

The two of them quickly made their decision.

Seeing that the young woman had no intention of following and was still staring intently at the copper mirror, the two men frowned, thinking she was a bit strange.

’Could she be worried a monster will appear in the mirror?’

’How ridiculous.’

The two of them didn’t insist, and pushed the door open to leave.

The night wind blew.

It was like an invisible pair of hands caressing her, then gently embracing her from behind.

The door swayed gently, creaking.

The young woman found it strange. The voices of Song Zichao and his friend grew fainter and fainter until they disappeared completely. Even the sounds of the fierce battle outside the courtyard were gone.

It was as if she were all alone in the room.

The temperature around her began to drop. She felt a chill all over and pulled her thin clothes tighter, curling into a ball, but she still couldn’t help but shiver.

This made her very uneasy.

The wind was still blowing.

’No, it doesn’t feel like wind.’ ℯℯ𝑙.

’It feels like the air currents from someone walking nearby.’

’It must be Song Zichao and his friend.’

’They must be anxious about the current situation, trying to think of a solution. Some people like to pace when they’re thinking. That’s normal.’

’Wait.’

’Why aren’t there any footsteps?’

The young woman’s hair stood on end in an instant. A bone-chilling cold washed over her entire body as she once again saw a figure appear in the copper mirror.

It was herself.

’Another hallucination?’

The sense of unease in her heart grew stronger. She clamped one hand tightly over her mouth, terrified she would scream, while she rubbed her eyes hard with the other.

Then, she looked at the copper mirror again.

Her reflection in the mirror wore a different outfit: she was draped in light gauze, holding a silk fan. Pearls gave off a soft glow and jade shimmered brightly. An air of scholarly refinement emanated from her, making her look just like the young mistress of an ancient, learned family.

It walked forward, step by step, getting closer and closer, as if it wanted to step out of the copper mirror.

"That’s not me!"
