Realizing this wasn’t working, the White Wolf spotted an opening and bolted. It hadn’t taken more than a few steps when a great rushing sound came from overhead. Then, a pair of eagle talons, like iron hooks, sank deep into its back. The sheer force of the impact flipped the White Wolf King onto the ground.

It was Xiaojin, who had been tracking them from above, swooping in to aid Dahuang and the others. After its successful strike, Xiaojin soared back into the sky. This served to both guide its master and avoid any desperate counterattack from the dying wolf. It was, after all, a member of the noble air force—not like Dahuang and that rabble on the ground.

Though Dahuang and the others were covered in gashes, none of their injuries were fatal. In contrast, the White Wolf King was completely incapacitated by Xiaojin’s strike. The three dogs swarmed it—one going for the throat, another for the groin, and the third latching onto a leg.

When Zhao Wendong and his men arrived, they saw one yellow and two black figures piled together, viciously latched onto a white form beneath them.

"Hahaha, well done!"

Zhao Wendong bellowed excitedly as he hurried over to Dahuang and the others. The light was already fading from the White Wolf King’s eyes, replaced by a look of pure indignation. ’I am a creature of superior intelligence, unmatched in the animal kingdom. At Zhao Wendong’s signal, Xiaojin descended and landed on his shoulder. Zhao Wendong took out a drawing that Wang Lulu had prepared for him. It depicted a typical village. He fed Xiaojin a strip of dried meat, letting the eagle get a good look at the image. Then, he sent it flying once more. He hoped Xiaojin would bring back good news; with the wolf menace eliminated, Zhao Wendong didn’t want to spend another day in these mountains.

About forty minutes later, Li Dawei arrived with the main party.

"Brother Dong, we’re here! How’d it go? Did you get it?"

Zhao Wendong said nothing, simply gesturing toward the White Wolf King’s corpse. With its pure white fur, the body was difficult to spot against the snow unless you looked closely. Li Dawei walked over for a look and immediately bellowed in excitement.
