Claire Sinclair couldn’t resist asking, "Could a twenty-nine-year-old man accept someone like Ivy Tanner?"

Adrian Quincy said in a low voice, "Lucas Rhodes once pursued me, but I rejected him. He doesn’t like women."

Claire Sinclair froze for a second before the shock hit her. "Are you saying he’s gay? And he pursued *you*?"

Adrian Quincy nodded calmly.

Claire Sinclair’s inner gossip flared to life, and she couldn’t stop herself from asking, "When did this happen?"

"Back when I was in college. He was a year ahead of me."

"Does anyone else know about this?"

Adrian Quincy shook his head slightly. "He once swore he would never marry anyone but me. I was a little freaked out by him at the time. Later, he got into a car accident and went abroad. I haven’t seen him since."

Claire Sinclair breathed a sigh of relief. ’I can’t believe it. Her Adrian appeals to both men and women. Even men are captivated by him. Impressive!’

"In that case, I think it’s worth a shot. I’ll go look for Lucas Rhodes tomorrow."

Adrian Quincy reached out, took her hand, and changed the subject. "About my mother coming to see you this morning... there’s something strange about it."

Claire Sinclair’s heart clenched. She looked up, meeting his gaze. "What’s strange about it?"

Adrian Quincy frowned slightly, as if trying to recall something. He began to speak slowly. "Ever since my mother slapped you, her personality has been very strange. I didn’t realize just how abnormal things were until Yara was exposed for causing your miscarriage. After that, I secretly had people monitor my mother’s every move. We discovered that some of her little habits have disappeared. I suspect... she isn’t my mother."

"What?" Claire Sinclair cried out. "Are you serious?"

Adrian Quincy pressed his thumb to her lips, whispering, "Don’t say a word about this to anyone. That includes the people I’ve assigned to protect you. The only exception is Landon Winston."

"Okay!" Claire Sinclair nodded emphatically. She pulled his hand away from her mouth and whispered, "So what are you going to do? That woman... she brought a joint petition to force me to leave you. Will that petition affect you?"

"The Quincy Family has likely been infiltrated by some other power. If the petition is made public, it will have some effect on me, but not a major one."

"What kind of effect?" Claire Sinclair asked immediately.

"I’d lose a third of my support rate."

A third?!

Claire’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest. "We can’t let that happen! If you lose a third of your support, you’ll never win against Ethan Kingsley."

Adrian Quincy gently patted the back of her hand. "There’s still time," he said in a low, steady voice. "I can win that third back."

"But it will be so hard for you, Adrian. Maybe... maybe we should get a divorce now. We can remarry after you become president. I don’t want to be a burden to you."

Adrian Quincy squeezed her hand tightly, his tone laced with displeasure. "You’re pregnant. There is no way I’m divorcing you at a time like this."

"We could... not have the baby for now..." Claire Sinclair muttered, but the words couldn’t even convince herself.

Adrian Quincy’s brow furrowed. "Claire, I would sooner give up the entire world than leave you while you’re pregnant. Don’t even think about making sacrifices for my sake. I can handle this."

"Then what should we do?"

"Focus on a healthy pregnancy. And trust me."

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "You want me to do nothing?"

Adrian Quincy nodded.

"What if they make the petition public?"

"They have their petition, but we have the *Astoria Daily*. If we’re forced into a public feud, a third party is guaranteed to benefit in the end. They’re not that stupid."

Claire Sinclair was confused. "In that case, doesn’t that make the petition meaningless?"
