It was still class time, so there was hardly anyone on campus.

The middle-aged woman wore black high heels. The CLICK-CLACK of her shoes was especially jarring on the empty campus.

The middle-aged woman’s name was Wan Shanyan, the Director of Teaching Affairs at Imperial High School.

She was taking Shu Yao to the administration office to handle her student registration.

Once they arrived at the office, it was as if she’d forgotten all about it—and about Shu Yao entirely. She started chatting with another faculty member in the office.

Seeing that the director showed no signs of stopping, Shu Yao sat down in a massage chair, closed her eyes, and began to enjoy it.

Wan Shanyan shot her a sidelong glance, her expression a mix of ridicule and disdain.

She was clearly leaving her hanging on purpose.

More than half an hour later, the bell rang, signaling the end of class.

A homeroom teacher from one of the classes came in right on the dot, shoving two troublemaking students inside.

One was tall, the other short.

The tall one was unbearably arrogant and full of himself, with an expression that screamed, "Who the hell can touch me?"

The short one was in a sorry state. His face was black and blue, clearly having taken a serious beating, yet his eyes were still full of defiance.

Every school has a few delinquents. These two, sent to the director’s office, were exactly that.

The two boys came from two different prominent families. The homeroom teacher didn’t dare offend either of them, so he’d sent them here.

"What happened?" Wan Shanyan asked, her face stern.

The one who’d been beaten looked aggrieved. "Director Wan, I don’t know either! I was just talking with a classmate when this guy, You Dan, suddenly jumped me and started kicking and punching! Look what he did to me!"

You Dan snorted, showing no remorse whatsoever.

"You Dan, you’re about to graduate, and you’re still causing trouble! Is your school record not interesting enough for you? Are you trying to add another demerit to it?!" Wan Shanyan’s harsh reprimand echoed throughout the office. "Count for yourself! How many times have you broken school rules this semester?!"

When Wan Shanyan started scolding someone, she never knew when to stop.

You Dan turned a deaf ear, offering no explanation. Instead, he noticed a stunningly beautiful new face in the office and couldn’t help but stare, intrigued.

Shu Yao’s eyes snapped open.

Suddenly meeting those pitch-black eyes, You Dan’s heart skipped a beat. He guiltily averted his gaze, as if he’d been caught doing something wrong. A second later, he couldn’t resist looking back.

"Director Wan," Shu Yao interrupted Wan Shanyan nonchalantly, "I’ve been waiting for you for a whole class period. I can see you’re quite busy. How about this: I’ll come back whenever you’re free."

Wan Shanyan’s expression turned ugly. She looked at Shu Yao in disbelief, as if she couldn’t imagine being interrupted by a student. A student from the Lower Star District, no less!

"Wait!" Seeing her about to leave, Wan Shanyan stood up, her tone clearly dismissive. "If you leave, how am I supposed to explain this to Principal Chen! Wait until I’ve handled the matter at hand..."

Shu Yao gave a cool smile and cut her off again, her voice unhurried. "How you explain things to Principal Chen is your business. In any case, I’ve already been here. If Principal Chen asks, I will report the situation to him truthfully."

Wan Shanyan’s face changed instantly, turning a shade of pale green.

"You’re a busy woman. My time and patience are also quite limited. Let’s just try to understand each other," Shu Yao said, her tone cold yet polite.

"You..." Wan Shanyan was so furious her voice trembled.

’How dare a mere commoner from the Lower Star District challenge the authority of the Director of Teaching Affairs at Imperial High School!?’

Shu Yao reached the doorway and nearly collided with a girl who was rushing in.

She stepped aside to let the girl pass.

The girl stared at her face, stunned at first, then overjoyed. She excitedly grabbed Shu Yao’s hand.

"Benefactor!! I finally found you!!!"

Shu Yao pulled her hand back and said coolly, "I’m already spoken for. Please don’t bother me, thank you."

Shu Yao walked past the stunned girl and left the office.

The girl snapped out of it and chased after her, her face flushed. "Benefactor, don’t you remember me...?"

Just then, Shu Yao’s Light Brain received a message.

She quickly stepped aside and answered the video call.

"Mommy~" The adorable Xiao Juzi appeared on the screen.

"Hey, sweetie. Have you been listening to Grandma?" Shu Yao’s eyes were full of tenderness, a complete transformation from the person she was in the director’s office.
