So, Shu Xin promptly explained their purpose to the neighbor’s robotic butler, then had Shu Yao hand the items over. The two of them then headed home.
Upon entering, they saw Shu Chao Yu dressed and ready to leave. Shu Xin complained unhappily, "Working the night shift again?"
Shu Chao Yu: "Yep."
Shu Yao asked, puzzled, "But isn’t there a curfew at night?"
Shu Chao Yu laughed. "The curfew doesn’t apply to our line of work."
Shu Yao gave him a skeptical look. "You sure you’re not just going out to have fun?"
"It’s curfew! Where would I even go to have fun?" Shu Chao Yu said, exasperated. "I really am working the night shift tonight!"
It seemed he was telling the truth this time.
Shu Chao Yu left for his night shift. With the curfew in effect, it looked like her eldest uncle wouldn’t be coming back tonight.
Shu Xin browsed the Star Network for a bit before going to bed.
Shu Yao returned to her bedroom. Although she moved as quietly as she could, she still woke the little guy up.
Xiao Juzi rubbed his sleepy eyes and called out groggily,
"Mommy..."
Shu Yao’s heart softened. "Sweetheart, Grandma bought you a sleep pod. Do you want to go try it out?"
The sleep pod had an interference-proof mode that would ensure quality sleep.
Xiao Juzi shook his head. "I wanna sleep with Mommy~"
"Alright~" Shu Yao, filled with a mix of affection and resignation, placed a goodnight kiss on the little guy’s head. "Go back to sleep, then."
Soon, soothed by his mother, Xiao Juzi drifted back into dreamland.
Shu Yao turned off the lights. But suddenly, a bright light flashed outside the window. A few seconds later, the light vanished.
It seemed a Flying Machine had landed next door.
’The neighbor was back.’
Shu Yao checked the time. It was almost eleven o’clock.
’The curfew starts at ten in the evening. For the neighbor to be able to come back at this hour, his identity must be anything but ordinary.’
’However, the more status someone had, the more they cared about her and Xiao Juzi’s origins.’
’The label of "Lower Star District lowlife" wasn’t something that would vanish just because you coated yourself in a layer of gold. The more respectable you appeared, the more others wanted to rip off that facade to feel superior.’
’The Lin Family was the perfect example.’
’The Shu Family, however, was an exception.’
When it came to this new neighbor, Shu Xin was in favor of building a good relationship.
Shu Yao, however, felt it was best they didn’t bother each other.
"Not asleep?"
As she sat by the bed staring into space, Shu Yao suddenly received a message from a certain Commander.
Shu Yao: "How’d you know?"
Qin Shiwei: "Open the window."
Shu Yao got up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and slid open one of the tinted glass doors.
A dark figure swept onto the balcony, bringing with it a gust of cool air.
Shu Yao was startled at first, but when she looked closely, she realized it was Qin Shiwei!
Good heavens!
’He just jumped from the ground floor to the third floor in a single leap!’
’And he landed without making a sound!’
"It’s past curfew! What are you still doing outside?" Shu Yao pulled him inside, afraid he would be spotted by the Heavenly Eye.
She quickly realized her efforts were useless. ’With his status as a Commander, he has absolute control over the Federation’s mainframe. He could probably run naked down an empty street in the middle of the night without leaving a single trace of video evidence.’
Qin Shiwei wasn’t wearing a disguise. He was still in the same outfit he had worn at Luoxing Port earlier that day—black military boots and a slate-blue Commander’s uniform.
Seeing his son sleeping soundly on the bed, the man’s gaze paused. ’The little rascal is actually quite likable when he’s asleep.’
’His peaceful, sleeping face looked just like a little angel’s.’
Noticing the child-sized sleep pod right there, Qin Shiwei picked the boy up and unceremoniously stuffed him inside.
Shu Yao gasped!
’How could this man treat a child like that?!’
Xiao Juzi frowned and mumbled in his sleep but didn’t wake up.
"You...!" Seeing that her son hadn’t woken up, Shu Yao breathed a sigh of relief, but she still couldn’t help but scold the man.
