I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 172: Power of a Name
Zora teleported Night and Sara to a meeting room after they were done healing Rango’s ’harem’.
?The room had no windows. It was a medium-sized room with a table in the middle and some chairs. The room was well lit using artificial lights, giving it a modern look.
?Authur and Zora were waiting for them.
Arthur welcomed them and said, "Thanks for coming on such short notice. Please take a seat."
?Zora also greeted Sara with a warm hug.
?"Sorry for calling you so suddenly," Arthur said. "Something important has happened."
?Night sat on a chair, and Sara sat right beside him. Arthur and Zora sat on the other side of the table.
?"What happened?" Sara asked. She could clearly see from their behaviour that Zora and Arthur were tense.
?Authur didn’t say anything at first, just to be safe, Arthur asked [The Sleepless Sword] to check if Night and Sara were being controlled.
Once they were cleared, Arthur started.
?Arthur didn’t keep them guessing. He explained everything about how the other cities had been attacked and how five cities were now in the hands of the Beast Council.
He explained how Demigods monsters have been specifically targeting the cities and how Zora had detected a lot of Demigod Gates near the Dream City.
Zora also gravely added how some of these Demigod Gates have already broken, filling the surroundings regions with Demigod Monsters.
?Authur also told them what had happened to his own city, then he also explained what had happened to him.
?Arthur then looked down and said, "I would like to apologize for what happened to you. While I was the leader of the organization, I was just a puppet. I only recalled the memories recently after I was lucky enough to finally break free."
?Zora looked at them closely to see how they would react.
In case Night reacted violently, Zora and Arthur were prepared to suppress him; even if Night went fully berserk, Arthur was confident he could handle him.
?While Arthur had been played by [Zethe-thoth] and Diana, that was only because a God was involved.
If it had been a mere Demigod who tried to do the same to him, he would have cut them to pieces with his sword.
?When it came to fighting, he was no pushover.
?He was the Chosen of a Primordial God, after all.
?And now that he had regained his strength and also started cultivating, his overall strength had taken huge leaps.
?Unlike what they expected, Night didn’t show a single change in his expression.
Instead, it was Sara who had a dark look on her face.
?Sara sneered, "I always thought you were stupid, and this just proved it."
?Zora quickly defended him. "It was not like he could do anything. After all, a God was involved."
?Sara retorted, "So what? It doesn’t change what he did. Can you even guess how many lives, especially children’s lives, must have been lost because of his stupidity?"
?Arthur nodded solemnly. "I understand where you are coming from. This is why I have vowed to kill the God, for the lives that were lost and also so that such a thing never happens again."
?"What is the point of doing it now? Can’t you see the damage is already done?" Sara scoffed. As she said it, she pulled Night into a hug, pressing his face tightly to her bosom. She then started rubbing the back of his head.
?While Night didn’t show it, she could sense the anger building within him. She could bare to watch him suffer for something he had not choice over.
?While Sara was acting all motherly, Night’s eye twitched as this happened...
?To be honest, he didn’t give a shit about what had happened to him personally.
All the friends he had now were precisely because of all the ’stupid’ things Arthur had done, as Sara claimed. The way his life happened was the reason he was here the way he was now, he would want a thing to change.
?The only reason he felt angry was on behalf of Death.
He knew exactly how much Death had suffered under the damn Dr. Isaac. Based on what Arthur had just said, if Night had to guess, Dr. Isaac must have been hiding in this very city after the facility near the Desert City was destroyed.
?He also recalled The Ghost who had wanted to use him as a vessel, but had ended up freeing him instead, saying he got the location of the facility from a ’witch.’
?At first, he had thought it must have been Sara, but he immediately rejected that thought. If Sara had known about it, she would have freed them herself, not used someone unstable like Ghost.
?So the only other witch that could have leaked the information must have been Diana. But she was the Chosen of [Zethe-thoth], so it didn’t make any sense for her to do it.
So clearly an unknown third party was involved.
?’I need to see if there is another witch. Maybe Sara would know,’ Night thought.
?Back to the topic at hand: he was angry because he had wanted to skin Dr. Isaac alive or even gift him to Death for what he had done to her.
?But now that was going to be infinitely harder with him being under the protection of [Zethe-thoth].
?In Sara’s embrace, he thought, Still, it was a good feeling to be cared for.
His anger slowly dissipated in response to the warm head rubs from Sara.
?But a tinge of annoyance still remained when he understood that he could no longer openly attack the organization for the injustice, and now he would have to use elaborate tricks to capture Dr. Isaac.
?Still, Dr. Isaac was already a dead man in Night’s eyes. Even if Dr. Isaac miraculously became the husband of a Primordial God, Night would still kill him.
?Sara felt Night calm down in her hug.
?But Sara was still angry. "Why should we help you after what happened?"
?Arthur and Zora were both silent at that.
?It was not like they hadn’t considered this reaction, they could only imagine what he had been thought, being an experiment subject didn’t sound good no matter how one looked at it.
But Arthur had still chosen to be honest because he felt it was the right thing to do.
?Zora said softly, "Sara, I understand why you might feel like that, but isn’t it better to hear it from the boy himself?"
?Arthur nodded. "Whatever he decides, I am fine with it."
?Finding it reasonable, Sara loosened her grip, and Night unwillingly pulled away from her.
?Night looked at them with his pupilless eyes; he only had one pair of sunglasses, so it was obvioo not enough for every single clone he made.
?Zora and Arthur both had the same black hair, and both of them were good looking. Even Night, who didn’t think much about physical appearances, felt both of them were unusually.
?Maybe it was his eyes that let him see more than normal. Within his Domain, they felt the same as always, but his eyes told him not to underestimate them.
?This was different from the instincts that had been triggered before by Gabriel.
?Night said with a calm expression, "Honestly, I don’t hold any grudge against you. Without what happened, my life would have been vastly different, and even if I could, I wouldn’t wish my past to be any other way."
?Hearing this, Arthur felt the tension in his shoulders that he had unknowingly been holding finally ease up.
?Night continued, "I have seen [Zethe-thoth] myself, so I know it must be a stroke of luck that you are even alive right now."
Authur said "Yes he is indeed terrifying..."
?Zora had not encountered the Void God, but she still nodded in agreement. She had recently become a Demigod and the growth she felt was so vast that she could only imagine how much growth one would experience upon attaining Godhood.
?Arthur warned, "I think it’s better not to name him. We have a theory that maybe he can sense every time his name is uttered, or even thought of."
?Night looked a little surprised. "How did you arrive at that conclusion?"
?Arthur explained, "It was Kwame who said it offhandedly, but I believe there is some merit to it."
?Sara agreed. "It makes sense. When we were attacked by them, for some reason, they were aware of our location far too accurately."
?Zora and Arthur both had interested looks, as they really wanted to know what had happened that day, but unfortunately, neither Sara nor Night wanted to explain.
?Night pointed out, "Still, there are lots of ways to track someone. Someone skilled in the Destiny aspect or Fate aspect could do it too, so I don’t understand how you seem so sure it’s because of his name."
?Even though he said it, he had already stopped using the name entirely and killed all thoughts related to that person. He had even sent an urgent telepathic message to the others, including Minerva, to do the exact same.
?Sara, who had also received the telepathic message, smiled but didn’t say anything.
?Arthur looked unsure if he should reveal it, but in the end, he said, "In the ancient books I have read, there were some characters who could do it, beings so terrifying that just uttering their name could bring down lightning bolts on you."
?Zora, who had maintained a plain expression until now, suddenly displayed a starry-eyed look. It seemed she really liked the scholarly side of her brother.
?Night and Sara, however, had peculiar expressions on their faces.
?Because a character like that existed in the very first story Night had ever told her. Back when Night had fainted upon seeing her monocle, he had explained the reason using that story.
?In that story, the main character had abused this loophole and would deliberately yell the name of the God to bring down lightning on his enemies.
?Arthur didn’t understand why Sara and Night were looking at him weirdly.
?Sara asked smoothly, "Can you share the name of the book? I am interested to know more."
?Zora turned to her in surprise. "Since when did you like reading? I thought you hated anything that involved reading."
?Sara’s lips twitched. She extended her big hand to stroke the back of Night’s head and said, "Ever since I started taking care of this cute boy full-time."
She lied without an ounce of shame.
?Even though Sara’s act made Night a bit embarrassed, he didn’t resist at all.
?’Soo Soothing... Why is she so good at this...,’ Night thought. Inwardly he was melting, but on the outside, his expression remained as stoic as always.
