Just as Aria’s hand was about to reach out and touch the jar, another hand appeared and grabbed it in the middle of the action.

"Wait, something is very wrong here." Raiden looked at the so-cold ancestor with a cold look before grabbing Aria and moving two steps backwards.

" This all sounds too fishy and too good to be true. Suddenly, out of nowhere, there is an ancestor popping up and giving her the bloodline, not that it’s yours to give away, or it’s hers to begin with, but still, this all feels a little too... convenient. Who exactly are you??"

Raiden glared at the so-called Ancestor Valkyric, who just laughed at his doubts.

" Ha ha ha. You don’t need to doubt me, my boy. I am undoubtedly the senior-most person in the family. Why would I ever have my own descendants??"

"That makes me even more suspicious about you, old man." Raiden fired back without even missing a beat, causing a speechless look to appear on his face.

He might be their ancestor, but he wasn’t so old, was he?? Velcoric was pretty sure he looked very young.

"Hey, hey, hey. There is no need to attack my character like that. All right? I may be her Ancestor, but I am a young soul at heart."

Looking at this drum queen, now it was Raiden’s turn to feel speechless. He even started doubting himself and thinking he had been way too vigilant.

But he still didn’t let his guard down. There was one thing he absolutely had to confirm before he could trust this guy.

"I don’t care how young or old you are. You are still pretty suspicious. Tell me, when you first saw me, you said I smelled like family, white something something, and The Ashen One. What do you mean by that??"

Hearing Raiden’s words, Velcoric fell silent for a moment, not saying anything.

An uncomfortable silence fell around the field as Raiden looked at the person in front of him calmly while he Theodore and Aria exchanged uneasy glances with each other.

While they had no idea what Raiden was trying to do or ask, since he had given up so much to bring them here, they trusted him much more than they did when they saw their so-called ancestor.

After a while, when Valcoric saw that both descendants were not saying anything, just standing silently behind Raiden in support, he had no choice but to speak up.

"Damn it, you brat!! I don’t want to get involved in the world of those monsters. Why are you so intent on making me?? Nothing ever good comes when you get involved with the Ashen Family. Why are you so intent on dragging my family in that world?? And you even chose to drag the most promising descendant I have with you. No way!! I refuse!! I refuse to do it."

Raiden fell into a silent thought. After hearing this old man, he had a faint feeling that all of this was somehow connected to his parents, and he wouldn’t miss a chance to get more information about it.

Without outwardly showing any kind of expression on his face, Raiden spoke again.

"I don’t care what scheme you have. I won’t let you go near Aria and harm her until you clarify yourself first."

"Do you know how hard it is to find her? If trained properly, she alone changed the whole family. A talent like her comes once in a fucking century, and you are telling me you are going to forbid my contact with her. Who do you think you are, punk? You are just some small-ass kid who got lucky. Do you believe that with just one word of mine, the whole clan will come swarming in here and beat you up??"

"Heh, you can try anything you want, old man." A faint sneer appeared on Raiden’s face.

What a joke. He had climbed up here step by step through hordes of bodies. With the power of the system in hand, he had no fear of anyone below Mythical now.

"Ugh!!! You!! You two!! The unfilial descendants of mine!! What are you doing standing there, gawking like idiots? Are you going to let this outsider decide your fate?! This is your only chance to get your bloodline back. On top of that, you will get my legacy too. You will be the strongest and most important person in the family!! Are you really going to give all of that up just on the words of some outsider?!!"

Hearing the questioning of their ancestor, both Aria and Theodore fell silent at the same time.

To say that they didn’t feel tempted after hearing his words would be a lie. At least Theodore felt really tempted at the prospect, but after he turned and saw the look on his big sister’s face, he fell silent and didn’t say anything.

Aria, who had been silent until now, looked at Velcoric with eyes filled with conviction.

"No, I do not feel tempted at all. Do you know who this is? Do you know why he is helping me?? Do you know what I offered him in return?? No, you don’t. You fucking don’t. I have only helped him out in the past once, only once, with a very small thing."

"And for that small amount of help, this man was willing to fight my entire family. This silly guy went against my father, the strongest person in the family, when nobody else in the clan dared to. He fought against a life-threatening Terra Beast to help me get here. He did all this just to help us pay a tiny, insignificant favour back. I am the helpless little girl who can’t pay anything back for this favour. Yet I let him risk his own life for me. When you ask me who I trust more between some ancestor I never met and him, I will always end up picking him!!!"
