Chapter 219: Chapter 119: I’ll Take Care of You Even if You’re Paralyzed

Just then, a steady snore could be heard.

She saw Chen Yuan had fallen asleep on the sofa.

Gently, she lowered Chen Yuan’s feet, then went back to the room for a blanket and draped it over him.

His face and hair were greasy. He had really worn himself out these past few days.

Chen Yuan slept until noon, only to be jolted awake by the sound of Mili’s crying.

He got up and went to the spare bedroom, where he saw Jiang Wanyi pointing a thermometer gun at the baby’s forehead.

"37.7."

"That’s not bad. Not as high as yesterday." Chen Yuan felt a lot more relieved. At this stage, any improvement was a good thing.

With the baby’s condition showing some improvement, Jiang Wanyi wasn’t as anxious anymore.

"Isn’t 37.7 still a bit high? Should we give her some more medicine?"

Chen Yuan glanced at Mili, thought for a moment, and said, "Let’s wait a little longer. We gave her medicine at 5:30 this morning, so it’s been about six hours. She seems okay right now, so there’s no need to rush."

"Mm."

Jiang Wanyi gathered her loose hair.

"We haven’t had a proper meal in days. I’ll go make us something to eat."

"Make something with a strong flavor, something good to eat with rice."

"How about Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce?"

"And maybe boil some plain noodles for the baby, without any oil."

"Got it."

For someone who knows how to cook, the cooking itself isn’t the problem; the real headache is deciding *what* to cook.

Once in the kitchen, Jiang Wanyi got busy cooking while Chen Yuan watched the baby, checking her temperature from time to time.

It stayed pretty stable. Although it fluctuated, it never reached 38 degrees, which was a good sign.

The temperature wasn’t as high anymore, and Mili had a bit more energy, so Chen Yuan picked her up to play, which was also a way to distract her.

In the meantime, the electrolyte water they bought yesterday arrived. They gave a little to the baby, then checked her temperature again. It was 37.9. As long as it wasn’t 38, it was a good thing.

A little over half an hour later, Jiang Wanyi finished cooking.

There was a dish of Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce, a small shrimp stir-fry, and a large glass of milk.

"Mili hasn’t been drinking much these past few days, but I pumped all this anyway. You can just drink it like water."

"Okay."

Seeing that the baby was doing well, Jiang Wanyi’s appetite returned, and she ate a whole bowl of rice.

The couple’s afternoon routine returned to normal.

Since he had his own things to do, Song Jianye went to practice driving by himself. He even filmed a few videos, looking quite proficient.

Around four in the afternoon, her temperature spiked again to 38.5. Her energy plummeted, so they had no choice but to give her more fever reducer.

Through this whole ordeal, it seemed Jiang Wanyi had been tempered. She was no longer as anxious as she had been the past two days.

She found a clean set of clothes for Chen Yuan, a full change from inside to out, and took his old ones to the bathroom to wash.

You could tell she had adapted to the situation; otherwise, she wouldn’t have had the presence of mind to do chores.

「And just like that, another night passed.」

That night, Mili slept quite well. When Jiang Wanyi woke up, Chen Yuan and the baby were both beside her, filling her with an inexplicable sense of comfort.

The baby turned over, waking Chen Yuan. Their eyes met, and Jiang Wanyi whispered:

"You should sleep a little longer."

Chen Yuan checked the time on his phone. It was already past seven. He yawned.

"I’ve slept enough."

Jiang Wanyi picked up the thermometer gun and checked the baby’s temperature. 37.4.

This temperature was finally within an acceptable range for them.

"Never mind the baby. Go get yourself ready. Any longer and all this milk is going to go to waste."

She looked down at her nightgown; a large patch on her chest was soaked.

"Wait for me, I’m going to go pump."

"Okay."

Jiang Wanyi got out of bed and left. Chen Yuan yawned, got dressed, and sat up.

Mili slowly opened her eyes, and a smile spread across her face when she saw Chen Yuan.

In that instant, a wave of relief washed over him, as if the sun were finally breaking through after a storm.

"Aah, aah, aah..."

Seeing the baby was full of energy, Chen Yuan dressed her and picked her up.

Jiang Wanyi was in the spare bedroom. Chen Yuan knocked on the door.

"Come in."

He pushed the door open and went in. Jiang Wanyi had her back to the door, a sliver of her waist visible.

She turned and saw Chen Yuan come in holding the baby, who was babbling happily. Jiang Wanyi felt the same sense of relief that he did.

’It feels like the clouds are finally parting. We’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.’

"Tell Mommy we’re all better now."

"Aah, aah, aah..."

He blew the baby a kiss before carrying Mili out.

When she came out again, Jiang Wanyi was holding a large bottle of milk. She had clearly saved up a lot overnight.

"Here’s your breakfast. Drink some for now, I’m going to make food."

With the baby’s condition much improved, Jiang Wanyi had more energy for her chores.

She made porridge, fried some eggs and bacon, and bought a few steamed buns. Breakfast was ready.

Mili’s condition today was markedly different from the past two days. Her appetite was much better.

"Just feed her a third of the usual amount. Her digestive system is still a bit weak right now. If she eats too much, she might throw it up later."

Jiang Wanyi took the bowl away and wiped the baby’s mouth.

"Daddy says not to eat too much, so this is all for now. When you’re all better, Mommy will make you something delicious."

Mili had her appetite back. After only eating a third of her food, she clearly wasn’t full and wanted more.

Jiang Wanyi looked at Chen Yuan, asking for his opinion. If he said no, she couldn’t give the baby more, no matter how much her heart ached.

"No more. That’s already plenty."

Jiang Wanyi nodded and looked at the baby.

"Daddy says no more, so that’s all for now."

To distract her, they gave the baby a toy, and she didn’t ask for food again.

With Mili feeling a bit better, the couple’s mood returned to normal as well.

When she wasn’t busy, Jiang Wanyi even had the energy to scroll through videos.

A little after one in the afternoon, Jiang Wanyi took the baby.

"I’m going to put her down for a nap. You should go get some sleep. You’ve barely rested these past few days."

Chen Yuan nodded. He was indeed struggling.

"I’ve already laid out clothes for you. They’re on top of the washing machine in the bathroom. Change into them after you shower and get some good sleep."

"Okay."

"Wait!"

Jiang Wanyi called out to Chen Yuan, "The hairdryer is in the cabinet below. Dry your hair before you go to sleep."

"Got it."

Chen Yuan took a shower, and just as Jiang Wanyi had said, he dried his hair. He felt refreshed all over after washing up.

He had intended to play on his phone for a bit before sleeping, but a wave of exhaustion washed over him, and he fell asleep within minutes.

He was woken again by the sound of Jiang Wanyi’s frantic cry.

"Chen Yuan, come quick! The baby’s covered in a rash!"
