Chapter 191: Chapter 108: This Unfortunate Kid

"Yep. No preservatives, so they only have a three-day shelf life. If you don’t finish it, you have to keep it in the fridge. It’s 8 a bottle."

"Can I get two for 15?"

Song Jianye looked back at Chen Yuan, wanting him to make the call.

"Ma’am, the prices are fixed. I really can’t go any lower," Chen Yuan said.

"Then I won’t buy any for now."

The old lady led the child away, and Song Jianye looked at Chen Yuan with regret.

"There goes 15 that was practically in our hands."

"It’s a matter of principle. If you knock off even one, how would that look to the people who already bought from us? We wouldn’t be able to stay in business."

"I get it."

She turned back to face their little stall. She watched the people coming and going but didn’t shout or try to attract customers. She just sat there blankly. Her eyes held no desire to sell things, only a longing for the cartoon go-karts.

But a few minutes later, they got a customer. After successfully making a sale, Song Jianye’s interest was piqued, and she slowly seemed to be getting into the groove.

When someone asked about the products, she was even able to give them a confident introduction.

After playing two rounds of a game, Chen Yuan returned to the stall, and the two sat side-by-side.

By a little after three in the afternoon, they had already made over 1,200.

As far as Chen Yuan was concerned, this was excellent progress. The crowd would be even bigger at night, so he wasn’t worried about selling the rest of their stock.

Just as Chen Yuan expected, as night approached, the crowd grew larger.

A line even started to form in front of their little stall. Chen Yuan was finally certain that his Affinity was at work.

Beyond that, Chen Yuan noticed something else.

When Song Jianye was selling, most of the customers were men. When it was his turn, most were women and mothers with their children.

It was clear that good looks really did provide a great advantage in life.

To make sure Song Jianye got more experience, Chen Yuan forced her to stay put in front of the stall.

"Chen Yuan."

"What?"

"I’ve already sold several hundred’s worth. Can I go ride the little electric cars now?"

"Don’t even think about it. You’re staying right here to sell things and make money."

"Chen Yuan~~~"

"Stop whining."

"Sigh..."

Sweet Sister sighed.

"What’s so great about bullying a defenseless girl like me? Even if you force me to sit here, I won’t accept it. You have to make me lose so convincingly that I have no complaints."

"And how would I do that?"

"Come over here. Let’s play rock-paper-scissors. I want to lose fair and square."

"Fine, fine. I’ll make sure you lose so badly you won’t have a single complaint."

Chen Yuan walked back to the front of the stall and settled into the small chair.

"I’m off!"

The moment Chen Yuan sat down, Song Jianye shot up from her seat as if she had springs on her butt and bolted from the stall.

"Boss, one ride!"

She was already scanning the QR code as she spoke.

Apparently, she had already checked the price while she was supposed to be working.

Chen Yuan covered his face, completely exasperated.

’If I’d pulled something like this when I was a kid, I would’ve gotten a real beating.’

She got into the little car and, putting her driving-test skills to use, quickly mastered how to handle it.

Driving the Crayon Shin-chan themed go-kart, she pulled up in front of their stall.

"Want to join me? It can fit two people. I’ll take you for a spin."

"You’d better stay far away from me."

"You’re such a boring man. Be careful or you’ll never find a wife. Hmph..."

Song Jianye drove the little car away, chuckling happily and even taking a few selfies.

All in all, she was having a great time.

Twenty yuan for ten minutes.

After her ride was over, Song Jianye got out of the car, pleased as punch, and skipped back to Chen Yuan’s side with a grin.

"Hehe."

"Sit here and sell. We’re not leaving until everything is sold!"

"Okay."

Chen Yuan got up and walked off toward the basketball court, planning to watch the others play.

He glanced back at Song Jianye and saw her staring into space with her chin in her hand, her gaze drifting sideways—in the direction of the ring toss game.

’This poor kid.’

’If I weren’t doing this for the damn money from the system, I definitely wouldn’t have brought you out here.’

He went to the streetball court and played a few rounds with some guys.

The skill level was pretty average. As long as you had some height, you could dominate the court without needing any real technique.

When he finished playing and returned to the stall, only one yogurt and one caterpillar bread were left.

At this rate, they would be able to pack up soon.

"We can finally pack up!"

Song Jianye stretched languidly, revealing a sliver of her midriff. It was flat, without much flesh on it.

’In comparison,’ Chen Yuan thought, ’Jiang Wanyi’s slightly chubby tummy is cuter. It feels like touching a water balloon.’

"Are you tired?"

"Not at all. I feel like today was really fulfilling." Song Jianye chuckled, revealing two small dimples. "Especially when I was collecting the money."

"Gives you a real sense of accomplishment, right?"

"Mhm. Making money is actually pretty hard. I wanted to go play the ring toss game this afternoon, but when I thought about how hard it is to earn money, I resisted the urge."

’The fact that she’s thinking about this means the afternoon wasn’t a waste.’

"The last two items should sell quickly. I’ll give Uncle Zhang a call."

"Okay."

It would take Uncle Zhang some time to get there. It was very likely they’d sell out in the meantime, but even if they didn’t, they could just wait in the car for a bit.

While Song Jianye called Uncle Zhang, Chen Yuan scanned the crowd, trying to spot a potential customer.

"Quick, quick... The inspectors are here!"

Just then, he heard the man at the next stall shout. The guy immediately started packing up his things with lightning speed.

Chen Yuan also reacted quickly. The whole day had been peaceful, and of course, they had to show up right as he was about to sell out.

’If they fine us 200, it won’t have been worth it.’

Song Jianye was a bit slow on the uptake, looking a little dazed and unsure of how to handle the situation.
