Chapter 190: Chapter 108: This Unlucky Kid

The woman in sunglasses paused, but still paid the 38 yuan.

But it felt like a frustrating waste of money.

The two left, and Chen Yuan went back to tending his stall, unhurried.

The weather was pleasant—sunny, but not too hot or too cold.

People came and went in the small plaza in front of the main gate. There were plenty of girls with both stunning looks and figures. They wore only stockings despite the weather, apparently unfazed by the cold.

’Worrying about them isn’t my job,’ he thought. ’Too much effort.’

"Chen Yuan!"

"Chen Yuan!"

Hearing someone call his name, Chen Yuan turned to see Song Jianye waving at him from the kiddie train in the plaza.

’Huh?’

"What are you doing playing on that thing?"

"I bought the grilled squid, and then I got another 38 yuan, so I decided to ride this. You should come too! Your stuff will be fine over there. No one will take it."

Chen Yuan: ...

"I’ll pass."

Watching Song Jianye on the kiddie train, Chen Yuan realized the projectiles fired from one’s childhood weren’t bullets—they were fucking nukes.

’All the things I did as a kid,’ he thought, ’must have driven my parents crazy.’

The kiddie train’s bell rang as it slowly chugged to life.

In the other cars, it was all parents with their children. Song Jianye was the only adult, busy taking pictures with her phone.

Chen Yuan thought of Jiang Wanyi.

Her childhood and youth were spent studying. Although her situation was different from Song Jianye’s, neither of them had experienced much of the fun of childhood.

’Go on, play,’ he thought. ’Once you grow up, even if you do the same things, it’s just not the same.’

’You can buy the sweet wine and flowers of yesterday, but you can never recapture the spirit of your youth.’

The plaza was a decent size, and the train wasn’t very fast. The ride was over after a single loop.

After getting off, she skipped merrily back to Chen Yuan, grilled squid in hand.

"The little train was really fun! It’s a shame you didn’t come."

She placed the grilled squid on the small table, tidied her hair, and opened the bag.

"There were a few people in line when I went to buy it. Theirs must taste really good. Here, try some."

"You didn’t use the stall’s earnings, did you?"

"Nope!"

Song Jianye said while munching on a squid tentacle, "I used money from my card. All the income from our sales is in my mobile wallet, so it won’t mess up the accounting."

"That’s good."

"Chen Yuan."

"What is it?"

"One squid isn’t enough to fill me up. I want to get some rice noodles too."

"Want to grab a Snow to go with it?"

"How did you know that’s what I was thinking?" Song Jianye did a quick calculation.

"I spent 15 on the grilled squid and 20 on the train, so now I have 18 yuan left. That’s definitely enough for rice noodles and a lemonade."

"You won’t be happy until you’ve spent every last cent of this hard-earned money, will you?"

"Not really, I just feel like eating."

"Go on, go on."

"Hehe, I’m off then! You keep up the good work!"

Song Jianye skipped away again. As she walked into the crowd with her backpack on, she was so conspicuous she seemed to be lit by a spotlight.

It was just that the "life" she was experiencing was separated from *real* life by a wall.

Song Jianye was gone for over twenty minutes. When she returned, besides the rice noodles and a Snow brand lemonade, she also had a serving of egg fried rice.

"There’s no signal on the basement level, so I couldn’t call you. I just bought you some egg fried rice. As for the drink, we can just share this one."

"Doesn’t that put you over budget? Will the accounts still balance?"

"It’s fine. We’ll just temporarily ’embezzle’ some public funds. We just need to earn the money back quickly."

Chen Yuan: ...

The two of them lowered their heads and ate lunch. The Snow brand lemonade sat between them, and they’d take a sip whenever they felt like it.

Chen Yuan snuck a glance at Song Jianye. She was eating with great relish, looking very happy, and didn’t seem to think that eating out in the open was anything to be embarrassed about.

"Oh right, Uncle Zhang also brought me some cut fruit. I’ll go get it."

Returning to the car, Song Jianye took out the cut fruit. Besides that, there was also a bag of snacks.

They ate while they sold, and business was pretty good. In the blink of an eye, they had made over 200 yuan.

At first, Chen Yuan didn’t notice, but after a few sales, he realized that the customers were all parents with their kids, and it was always the kids who asked to buy something.

’Could it be that my 100% Affinity ability works here too?’

"We’re making money, we’re making money!"

Song Jianye was very excited. Looking at the income notifications on her phone, the smile never left her face.

"Chen Yuan."

"What do you want to eat now?"

"Nothing. It’s just that I’m getting a little sleepy after eating."

"Don’t even think about sleeping. If we don’t sell all this stuff today, you can forget about going home tonight."

"Don’t push me."

"Are you going to cry?"

"No. I’ll abscond with the funds."

"You’re too much of a wimp," Chen Yuan said. "You’d run two hundred meters and come right back on your own."

"Anyway, as long as this stuff isn’t sold out, you can forget about sleeping."

"Alright..."

Chen Yuan opened the back door of the car and sat on the seat, leaving Song Jianye at the stall while he started playing a game.

’If I don’t put some pressure on her, she’ll really think she can just do whatever she wants in life. What a joke.’

"Chen Yuan~~~"

Song Jianye looked back at Chen Yuan, her expression pitiful.

"I’m a little scared here by myself. Come keep me company."

"It’s broad daylight, what’s there to be scared of? The prices are all marked. If someone wants to buy something, just sell it to them. This is what ’experiencing real life’ is all about."

"Do I need to lie to people?"

"Lie?"

"You said before that you were a student at the Agricultural University."

"Of course. You lie when you have to. There are no ’good guys’ in business."

"Oh, oh..."

Chen Yuan sat in the car playing his game, glancing over at Song Jianye from time to time. She was just sitting there like a well-behaved kitten.

"Young lady, is this milk made by your school?" an old woman asked, leading a little boy to the front of the stall.
