Chapter 551: Chapter 550: Unexpected Situation
"This is some Alchemy Equipment for adventuring. It doesn’t have any Magic Effects, but it can be useful in certain situations. Lots of shops that sell adventuring supplies carry these little gadgets," Dorn continued. "I think we should all pitch in some money to start a team adventure fund for buying useful Alchemy Items."
"So how much does this stuff cost?" Kase asked, keenly picking up on the key point of Dorn’s words.
"Those three packs alone cost thirty Gold Coins. After you apply it, it’s effective for one hour," Dorn said. "It’s not exactly cheap, which is why I didn’t mention it to you guys before."
"Well, we’re pretty well-off now, so affording this stuff should be no problem." Colin unconsciously sniffed along with Kase. "Let’s talk about it after this is all over."
With that said, Colin tore open a bag, carefully poured the Silencing Powder into his palm, and patted it onto the seams of his Armor.
After applying the Silencing Powder, the scraping sound his Armor made when he moved his joints was indeed much quieter. He didn’t know the principle behind it, but the stuff was certainly effective.
’These little Alchemy gadgets are quite amazing.’
Before they knew it, the jolting beneath them gradually ceased. The group knew they had more or less arrived.
Dorn reached out, pulled the door flap aside, and then casually hopped off the carriage, heading in another direction.
According to the plan, he was supposed to get off the carriage first, find an alley to become invisible, and then lead the others into the mansion.
Colin immediately took out his Spellbook. First, using the technique of Ritual Spellcasting, he cast Detect Magic on himself without expending any energy.
Then, using the technique of Rising Tier Spellcasting, he cast the Invisibility Technique on Kase, Orelia, and himself. As he recited the Spell, the group quickly turned invisible, while Ale remained in the carriage to provide support.
Now invisible, Orelia gently placed the little owl in her hands on the ground and gave the little creature’s head a soft pat.
’Let’s go. Walk out from the front of the carriage house.’
Dorn’s voice appeared in their minds. Colin tentatively placed a hand on Kase’s shoulder, and Orelia, in turn, placed her hand on Colin’s shoulder from behind.
And just like that, the three of them walked out from the front of the carriage house together.
While invisible, the group made their way to the outer wall of the Levin Clan’s mansion, completely unnoticed.
The wall was nearly three meters high, looking somewhat intimidating.
Kase turned back, pulled Colin’s wrist down, and gestured to a certain height.
Colin understood his meaning. He grasped his sword hilt, entered his Sword Dance state to enhance his coordination, and simultaneously lifted his leg to the height Kase had indicated.
Then, a tremendous force surged up from under his foot.
Colin quickly steadied himself and shot out his hands. Although not being able to see his own arms was annoying, he still managed to grab hold of the edge of the wall.
The full weight of his heavy Half-plate Armor was suddenly bearing down on his hands.
But the Colin of today was a far cry from his former self; at least in terms of Power, he had far surpassed who he used to be.
Colin heaved himself over the wall with a sharp pull and landed steadily on the ground. His Armor made a slight noise, but since there were no Guards nearby, there was no risk of being discovered.
The scene in the courtyard was much the same as they had seen a few days ago, with meticulously cared-for flowers and plants everywhere, along with a few small ponds. The only difference was that the gardener who had been working in the yard was nowhere to be seen.
A moment later, a few soft sounds came from nearby. It seemed the others had also made it over.
’Let’s head inside now. Put your hand on my shoulder. I’m right in front of you,’ Dorn’s voice appeared in his mind.
’Can he see me?’ Colin wondered as he reached his hand forward, fumbling for a moment before touching something smooth and bare.
’Dammit, that’s my head! You did that on purpose, didn’t you?!’
’Oh, sorry.’ Colin silently lowered his hand to the man’s shoulder. From behind, Orelia then placed her hand on his.
Led by Dorn, the group followed the pre-planned route toward the kitchen at the rear of the mansion.
Although it was adjacent to the guards’ barracks, there were basically no servants there in the afternoon, making it a weak point in the mansion’s Defense.
Just as they’d observed during their reconnaissance a few days ago, the kitchen door was open. However, just before they stepped inside, Dorn’s voice echoed in Colin’s mind. ’We smell blood. There might be trouble in the mansion.’
Colin sighed and replied in his mind, ’That’s to be expected.’
The group entered the kitchen. The room itself showed no signs of disturbance, but when Kase stepped forward and pulled open a cabinet door, a blood-soaked hand tumbled out.
Colin glanced down and saw that the victim was the mansion’s cook.
’What do you think is going on?’ Dorn asked. ’Who would dare to attack a nobleman’s mansion in Thousand Masts City?’
’We don’t know the situation in the rest of the mansion. Let’s go check those suspicious locations you mentioned first,’ Colin said.
Dorn then led the group deeper into the mansion. The entire residence was terrifyingly quiet; not a single sound could be heard.
This situation meant one of two things: either everyone in the mansion had already been brutally murdered, or the assailant was currently on a killing spree under the cover of a spell like Silence.
Their journey through the mansion was surprisingly smooth. Colin detected no traces of Magic; the residence was basically free of magical traps.
Unfortunately, after a thorough search of the places Dorn thought might be hiding spots, they found practically no solid evidence.
The group arrived at a large study in a corner of the mansion.
It was filled with bookshelves that reached two stories high, with sliding wooden ladders hanging from rails at the top. A mahogany desk sat in the corner of the room.
The moment he entered the room, Colin’s eyes were drawn to a flickering Magic Radiance on one of the bookshelves.
The Magic Radiance was a deep purple, taking the form of a stable geometric pattern. It appeared to be the Spiritual Light of the Abjuration System. This Spiritual Light was concentrated primarily on the cover of a book, unconnected to the shelf itself.
This meant the Protection spell must be attached to the book itself.
’Have Orelia cast Dispel Magic on the seventh book from the left on that shelf,’ Colin said in his mind.
A faint voice reciting a prayer sounded from beside him.
Immediately after, a faint golden light flashed, but the Magic Radiance on the book didn’t change at all.
