Chapter 550: Chapter 549: Smart Girl

As the Spell was chanted, Colin could see a rainbow-hued light slowly gather around the little owl and Kase.

He could clearly see this light flowing slowly in mid-air like a current of water, its colors gradually shifting as it moved.

This form of Magic Radiance indicated that this was Magic from the Transmutation System.

At some point, Colin had realized he could now see the details on the Magic Radiance. Before, he could only make out the most basic colors.

’This must be proof that my Casting Ability is improving.’

As the last syllable fell, the rainbow-hued Magic Radiance slowly blended into the colors of the surroundings. Kase and the little owl, sitting in their spot, vanished completely.

Just like yesterday, Colin guided his familiar to fly around the outside of the mansion, observing the mansion’s internal layout through its eyes.

This time, however, thanks to the Invisibility Technique, Colin was able to have the little owl fly inside the mansion to carefully scout every room.

Since an owl couldn’t rummage through chests and cabinets, that kind of task had to be left to Kase and the others. Colin directed the owl to start scouting the room layouts inside the mansion.

After about thirty-odd minutes, he had roughly finished mapping out the mansion’s interior structure.

During the reconnaissance, Colin didn’t see any invisible Imps or other creatures from the Lower Realm through the little owl’s eyes.

’Perhaps this family doesn’t keep Demons stationed in this mansion.’

After finishing the map, Colin saw that Kase and the others hadn’t come out yet. He decided to just sit at the front of the carriage. The Disguise Technique didn’t require any effort to maintain, so he still looked like an Ordinary coachman.

The little owl, still invisible, flew under the carriage’s canopy.

’By my calculations, the Invisibility Technique should last for another few dozen minutes. Kase and the others should be out soon.’

Just as Colin was sitting in front of the carriage, bored and watching the passersby, two little girls in lavish dresses furtively approached.

’I hope these two are just passing by,’ Colin prayed silently.

However, things didn’t go as he’d hoped. The two little ones, who looked about ten years old, cautiously walked up to the front of the carriage.

The taller of the two said to Colin, "Sir, can you take us out of the city?"

Colin glanced at the two little girls.

Their dresses were stained with some dirt and bits of leaves. It looked like they had crawled out from somewhere; they were probably young noble ladies trying to sneak out to play.

The older girl was fair-skinned, while the younger one’s complexion was a bit darker. From their appearance, though, they both seemed to be from the North, lacking the features of southerners.

"I can’t do that. If your parents don’t agree, I won’t take you out of the city." Colin yawned.

This angered the older girl. She stomped her foot hard, her shiny leather shoes making a CLACK-CLACK sound on the ground, and then said loudly, "I’m a noble! If I say I want to go, you have to take me!"

At that moment, the younger little girl stepped forward.

"Respected sir, could you take us out of the city?" The little girl reached into her dress pocket, pulled out a Gold Coin, and offered it with both hands. "This is your payment."

"That’s not a wise thing to do. You’re just two children. If I take you out of the city and you get lost, your families will come after me," Colin continued to reason with them. "If it’s not something important, I suggest you go back. Other people won’t be as reasonable as me. Someone might kidnap you and demand a ransom from your families."

"I want to go see my father. Please, sir." The little girl gave a curtsy, just like a little adult.

Seeing this, the older girl grumbled in dissatisfaction, "Why are you talking to him like that? He’s just a coachman! He’s a poor person!"

"But just a few years ago, I was also a poor person living in the Dock District. It makes me sad when you say things like that," the little girl said, looking hurt.

However, Colin felt she didn’t actually feel like crying; the expression was just an act.

"I’m sorry, Hanna. I didn’t mean it," the older girl said, flustered.

The little girl then turned and bowed to Colin. "I’m sorry, sir. She didn’t mean it."

"Even so, I can’t take you out," Colin said.

Just then, several guards wearing Chain Armor Shirts with Iron-Wrapped Short Staffs hanging from their waists suddenly appeared at the end of the street. As soon as they saw the two little girls, they immediately ran in their direction.

The older girl let out a shriek, and the little girl immediately pulled her along, running toward the end of the street.

The guards paid no mind to Colin on the side of the road, single-mindedly charging in the direction the two girls had fled.

After they had all run off into the distance, Dorn’s Mind Communication suddenly appeared in Colin’s mind. ’Orelia told me to ask if everything is okay out there. Did you run into any trouble?’

’We ran into two little rascals who’d run away from home. It’s fine now,’ Colin thought in reply.

’Good. We’ll be out soon.’

After waiting a little longer, Colin vaguely felt a bit of extra weight in the carriage behind him, and then Dorn sent another signal in his mind.

Colin immediately picked up the reins and drove the carriage forward into the streets of Thousand Masts City, heading slowly toward the Coachman’s Union.

Once they were completely safe, he looked back and asked, "What’s the situation?"

"We found some secret doors and hidden compartments, but neither of us can see Magic Radiance, so you’ll have to go in with us later to check things out. Otherwise, we can’t risk forcing our way in and triggering a Magic trap," Dorn said, leaning toward the edge of the canopy.

Colin said, "Are you confident you can get me inside? I’m wearing a suit of Half-plate Armor, you know."

"Just follow me when the time comes. I’m a professional, Colin," Dorn said, full of confidence.

"Alright then," Colin said. "Let’s make a few more trips in a bit. I still have the energy to cast more Magic. We should map out the mansion’s guard distribution as much as possible to ensure there are no mistakes."

"In that case, we’ll have to go to the Coachman’s Union and switch carriages, so we don’t attract attention," Dorn said.

After a few more reconnaissance runs, the group finally returned to their apartment to sort through the intelligence they had gathered.

Two days passed in a flash during their reconnaissance.

Today was the day for Colin and the others to enter the mansion together.

That morning, the group once again rode in a carriage toward the Levin Clan’s mansion, with Dorn driving this time.

Halfway there, a short, stubby hand suddenly reached into the carriage, holding three small cloth pouches. Dorn’s voice followed. "This is Silencing Powder. Pat the powder on yourselves. It’ll make you a little quieter when you walk."

"They make stuff like this?" Colin said as he took the cloth pouches from him and passed them to Ale and Orelia.
