Chapter 508: 508: Containment breach.

Far away, within Alpha Three Sanctuary, another emergency had already begun.

The first warning came from a restricted military containment facility located beneath the sanctuary’s eastern research district.

A series of alarms erupted through the underground corridors; red emergency lights flashed, security doors slammed shut, and several researchers abandoned their work as an enormous impact shook the reinforced walls.

"Containment Chamber Seven reporting structural damage!"

A technician shouted into his communicator.

"Repeat, structural damage! The subject is showing abnormal aggression!"

The control room’s main display flickered.

A massive creature moved behind the reinforced observation window.

It was the same Tier Seven beast that had been transported into Alpha Three under heavy military escort several weeks earlier.

The same creature Ravenna had briefly seen during its arrival.

At the time, the convoy had been surrounded by armed guards and specialized containment vehicles, suggesting that whatever they were transporting was extraordinarily dangerous.

Now the containment equipment was failing.

"Increase suppression output!" the facility director shouted.

A technician frantically adjusted the controls.

"Suppression at maximum!"

"Then activate the secondary restraints!"

"They’re not responding!"

Another impact shook the facility, hard enough that the observation window cracked.

Several researchers stumbled.

The director stared at the screen.

"That’s impossible..."

The creature moved again.

The reinforced wall buckled, then shattered. The explosion of concrete and metal tore through the containment chamber.

Several technicians were thrown from their stations, as emergency alarms screamed.

And the Tier Seven beast emerged.

The first military response team arrived within minutes.

They were experienced Contractors, several of them Rank Five, accompanied by specialized combat vehicles and heavy suppression equipment. Under ordinary circumstances, the team would’ve been capable of eliminating almost any threat encountered within a Yellow Zone.

But this wasn’t an ordinary beast, it was Tier Seven.

The creature tore through the first defensive line with terrifying ease.

A Rank Five Contractor attempted to intercept it.

The beast struck once and the man disappeared through a reinforced wall.

Another Contractor activated a defensive ability but the creature shattered it. A third attempted to restrain its movement but the suppression equipment overloaded.

Within minutes, the entire containment district was engulfed in battle.

Emergency sirens echoed across Alpha Three.

Civilian transport systems were suspended. Military vehicles rushed toward the eastern research district. And the academy received an emergency notification.

[ALPHA THREE SANCTUARY EMERGENCY ALERT]

[Critical Containment Failure Confirmed.]

[High-Tier Hostile Entity Detected Within Eastern Research District.]

[All Civilians Ordered to Remain Indoors or Proceed to Designated Shelters.]

[Academy Students Prohibited From Entering Restricted Combat Zones.]

At the Academy, Dillian stood in the dormitory corridor, staring at the notification. Antony stood beside him, panicking. Jude was already pulling on his jacket.

For several seconds, nobody spoke. Then Antony swallowed.

"Tier Seven?"

Dillian nodded slowly.

"Apparently."

Jude looked toward the distant eastern district where a massive explosion illuminated the night sky.

The windows trembled.

Antony’s expression changed.

"That’s inside the sanctuary."

Dillian tightened his grip on his communicator.

"I know."

Another explosion echoed, then a deep, powerful and terrifying roar came through. Even from several kilometers away, the pressure was enough to make several students freeze.

Jude slowly exhaled.

"Well."

Antony looked toward him.

"What?"

Jude stared at the distant smoke.

"I think our definition of a safe place just changed."

Dillian didn’t answer.

He was already contacting the academy’s emergency response office, asking where students could assist with evacuation without entering the combat zone.

The academy had activated its internal shelters. Several students were helping move injured civilians. Others were assisting the medical personnel.

Rebecca was among them, using her strength to clear debris from a damaged access road.

Antony looked toward Dillian.

"What about Silver and Ravenna?"

Dillian’s expression tightened.

"They haven’t returned, probably still on the Hollow Creek mission."

Antony stared.

"Then they don’t know?"

Dillian shook his head.

"Probably not," He said and looked toward the distant explosions. "And I don’t know whether that’s a good thing, most of the classes are back from their missions."

The battle inside Alpha Three continued for nearly an hour.

Senior military Contractors eventually arrived, including several Rank Six combat specialists and a powerful Rank Seven defender assigned to the sanctuary’s central defense command. Their combined efforts prevented the escaped creature from reaching the densely populated residential districts, but the destruction within the eastern research sector was catastrophic.

Several containment buildings were destroyed, two military response units suffered heavy casualties, an entire transport corridor collapsed, and the surrounding district was evacuated under emergency conditions.

The Tier Seven beast proved extraordinarily difficult to contain.

It resisted several suppression techniques, demonstrated unusual awareness of the military’s movements, and repeatedly targeted the weakest sections of the defensive perimeter rather than charging blindly.

Eventually, after a prolonged battle, the defenders managed to force it toward the sanctuary’s outer industrial boundary, but before they could establish a complete containment field, the creature broke through the final defensive line.

It escaped beyond the sanctuary perimeter.

The military immediately dispatched pursuit units but the beast disappeared into the surrounding wilderness.

And Alpha Three was left with the consequences.

---

Dawn arrived over Hollow Creek like an apology that came too late.

The eastern sky slowly brightened, revealing the full extent of the destruction that darkness had concealed. Entire residential blocks had collapsed, several streets were buried beneath rubble, and the northern defensive wall had been reduced to a jagged line of broken concrete stretching across the ruined farmland.

Smoke rose from damaged buildings, military recovery teams moved through the streets, medical personnel carried the injured toward temporary treatment stations, and the bodies of those who hadn’t survived were carefully gathered beneath white sheets.

Silver stood near the southern extraction point, watching the sunrise. His uniform was torn, blood stained his sleeves, his sword was damaged, and although the expensive medicines had restored much of his physical condition, he felt more exhausted than he could remember being in a very long time.

Ravenna stood beside him and neither spoke to each other.

Eventually, a military officer approached.

"Ruddington?" He asked.

He turned.

"Yes?"

The officer hesitated.

"We’ve recovered the body of your classmate."

His expression changed.

For several seconds, he couldn’t speak, then he nodded.

"Elias?"

The officer lowered his head.

"Yes."

He closed his eyes as Ravenna took his hand.

The officer continued.

"We found him beneath the upper platform of the communications tower. The recovery team confirmed his identity using his academy identification tag."

Silver swallowed.

"Thank you."

The officer nodded, then quietly walked away.

He remained motionless not knowing what to do at the moment.

Ravenna squeezed his hand.

He looked toward the ruined northern district. For a moment, he remembered Elias smiling at him.

I think I can reach Rank Two soon.

Silver slowly exhaled.

"He’s really gone," he said in a quiet voice.

Ravenna nodded.

"Yes."

He lowered his head.

She stepped closer and Silver wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer for comfort.

And for several minutes, neither moved.
