Chapter 426:Fun class?
Chapter 426: 426:Fun class?
Silver’s turn came several students later. Peter looked at the academy-issued sword.
"Not yours."
"Lost mine."
"Where?"
Silver paused.
"Somewhere ver dangerous," he said, without changing a single expression.
Several students looked over each confused by the answer.
Peter just stared for a few seconds before shaking his head.
"Of course you did."
Silver smiled and didn’t add anything.
Peter pointed toward the handgun.
"Primary?"
He considered for a few seconds. Before everything, he’d probably have said sword.
Now?
His gun skills had advanced enormously, but he still preferred having both.
"Situational."
Peter’s eyebrow rose.
"That wasn’t one of the options. I need you to give me a straightforward answer," he firmly said.
Silver thought.
"Handgun primary for immediate engagement. Sword once the distance closes."
Peter nodded.
"Better answer."
He started with the gun, it still had a few scratches but in functionality, it had not been destroyed in the slightest.
The range activated.
Phantom Draw Lv4 wasn’t subtle, Silver’s hand moved and the gun cleared the first target in under a second.
Bang.
It moved to the second.
Bang.
A moving target came immediately after. His aim tracked it then...
Bang.
Another crossed quickly.
Bang.
Silver moved while reloading as he kept his gaze on a target behind partial cover. He patiently wait for a few seconds until it exposed itself then...
Bang.
Peter watched carefully, observing for any weaknesses and strengths as he recorded then in his notebook.
Silver didn’t fire rapidly.
He fired when he had a shot and was good at conserving ammunition.
The final target crossed at high speed but Spatial Sense tracked it with ease.
He fired the moment it got into his vicinity.
Hit.
The range stopped.
Peter checked the result.
"Your firearm proficiency is higher than your academy record suggests," he said, the inquiry in his tone unmistakable.
Silver holstered.
"I’ve improved."
"Recently?"
"Yes."
Peter looked at him for a moment.
"Clearly."
Sword test came next. His performance was good.
The sword remained useful since his body remembered enough. His physical enhancements compensated for imperfections but Peter noticed the difference immediately.
"Your firearm technique is considerably more developed."
Silver nodded.
"Currently, most of my swords techniques are self taught so I know there are imperfections here and there."
Peter nodded with a smile.
"It’s still impressive... Planning to continue sword development?"
"Yes."
"Hold onto that motivation"
Silver returned to Ravenna. She held out the water bottle this time.
He drank.
"Your sword needs work."
Silver lowered the bottle.
"Hello to you too, miss perfect."
Ravenna rolled her eyes and smiled.
"I’ll help."
Silver looked at her.
"You just want permission to hit me," he said with resignation but couldn’t hide the smile.
"Training."
"That’s what you call it but I don’t remember someone telling me that when we first started training."
"We are now in a more peaceful and controlled environment. We didn’t have the leisure of training extensively when we were basically trying to survive," she calmly said before tapping his chest lightly. "You want help or not?"
Silver smiled.
"Why would I refuse?"
Ravenna nodded.
"Then I’ll help."
Silver appreciated the fact that there was no sense of superiority between them even when it came to something as monumental as thisf.
Then came abilities.
Peter moved everyone into the reinforced section. This was what most students had been waiting for.
One by one, Class Four began showing what made them Contractors.
Caleb’s Stone Skin covered sections of his body in a dense grey layer capable of resisting heavy impacts.
Mina sent controlled vibrations through the floor and identified movement without looking. Elias demonstrated enhanced visual perception by striking tiny targets at extreme range.
Others followed.
Some abilities were straightforward while some strange.
One student produced adhesive threads from his hands. Another could temporarily reduce the weight of objects he touched.
Silver paid attention to all of them, since useful abilities were not always the impressive ones.
Then Peter called Shirley.
Ravenna’s attention sharpened as Shirley stepped into the center.
Peter looked at his tablet.
"Ability classification: Light Refraction."
"Yes."
"Demonstrate."
She raised one hand and energy visibly moved. The air around her distorted, then She disappeared, not truly.
Silver could still feel her through Spatial Sense. Visually, however, there was only an imperfect shimmer.
Several students reacted in different ways: shock held the best score..
The moment Shirley moved, the distortion followed. She reappeared three meters away.
Peter nodded.
"Maximum duration?"
"Approximately forty seconds while moving. Longer if stationary."
"Combat use?"
She drew her sword.
The light distorted again and she disappeared. A target registered a hit a few seconds later, then another.
She reappeared moment after a third target fell.
Silver understood immediately.
Dangerous.
It was not overwhelmingly destructive ability but very dangerous in the right hands.
Peter tested the ability with moving targets, in which Shirley performed well. When she finished, Peter marked her record.
PRIMARY ROLE: SCOUT / SKIRMISHER
SECONDARY ROLE: INFILTRATION / ASSAULT SUPPORT
She looked pleased the moment she saw the result.
Ravenna said nothing.
Silver glanced toward her.
"You knew?"
"Yeah, but I wasn’t sure since I had already left. I heard it through the grape vines."
"Useful ability."
"Very."
Again, no attempt to diminish her. Whatever Ravenna thought of Shirley personally, she knew her stepsister was capable.
Then Helena Seer stepped forward.
She opened the shield case and removed a large reinforced shield.
Peter looked at her then at the shield.
"Barrier Anchoring."
Helena nodded.
She planted the shield on the ground as energy spread. A translucent wall appeared before her. It was not enormous, perhaps four meters wide and slightly over two meters tall.
Peter gestured.
An automated launcher fired. The barrier held from the first impact. The second one was fired, it still held. Another one was fired and this time Helena’s boots shifted but the barrier remained.
Peter increased the force.
A heavier projectile struck it. She grunted but still held.
Silver understood the name now.
The barrier wasn’t merely floating protection. Helena anchored it through herself and the shield.
Peter moved the launcher.
"Can you redirect?"
"Yes."
Helena turned.
The barrier moved, slower but stable.
"Can you protect from multiple directions?"
"Limited."
She demonstrated.
The primary barrier divided and two smaller angled walls appeared. Her breathing immediately became heavier.
Peter stopped her.
"Enough."
She released it.
Peter entered the results.
PRIMARY ROLE: DEFENDER
SECONDARY ROLE: AREA CONTROL / PROTECTIVE SUPPORT
COMMAND COMPATIBILITY: HIGH
That last line drew attention.
Helena looked at it, then at Peter.
"Based on the entrance evaluation?" She asked.
"And your decisions during it."
She nodded and walked back to her designated stand.
Then Ravenna’s name appeared.
She stepped forward.
Peter looked at her.
"Fire."
"Yes."
"Show me control first."
That interested her.
Ravenna raised her hand and a small flame appeared hovering above her palm.
Peter pointed toward five suspended metal rings.
"One flame through all five. Do not touch the rings."
Her eyes narrowed.
The flame moved through three without much of a problem but the fourth shifted mechanically.
Ravenna adjusted accordingly and it went through both the fourth and the fifth cleanly.
Peter changed the test.
"Flames on your sword."
Ravenna nodded and drew her sword. Fire spread along the blade, a thin concentrated layer.
"Strike the target without allowing fire beyond the marked area."
Ravenna moved and slashed.
The target registered.
Fire damage remained entirely inside the boundary.
Peter nodded.
"Separate it."
Ravenna stepped back.
Her sword moved slicing into the air and a controlled arc of fire travelled outward. It struck three targets and stopped before the wall.
"Movement."
Ravenna vanished forward in a burst of acceleration and heat. Several students reacted, scrambling back a little as the heat reached them.
She stopped exactly on the marked point.
"Guard."
Fire expanded around her into a defensive semi circle.
Peter fired a low-level projectile and the guard absorbed it.
Another was fired immediately after. Ravenna adjusted the angle and blocked it.
Peter stopped.
"Enough."
She released the fire.
The display processed.
PRIMARY ROLE: VANGUARD / ASSAULT
SECONDARY ROLE: MOBILE DEFENDER
RANGED COMPATIBILITY: MODERATE
COMMAND COMPATIBILITY: HIGH
Ravenna read it. It made sense for her to be a vanguard. She liked being where the fight was.
Peter looked at her.
"Your instinct is aggressive."
She nodded.
"Yes."
"That isn’t criticism."
She waited for him to continue.
"Your control is considerably better than your combat style initially suggests."
Ravenna smiled slightly.
"Thank you."
"Don’t let the first destroy the second."
"I won’t."
Peter nodded.
"Next."
Ravenna returned.
Silver held out his hand which she took.
"You looked happy," he said.
"I was," she relied with a smile on her face.
"About the fire?"
"No, mainly training."
Silver smiled.
"I think its both."
Ravenna leaned over and kissed his cheek. A few students had stopped reacting to that.
Shirley hadn’t, she was still watching the two of them.
Then Peter called Silver.
"Ruddington."
