Chapter 425: 425:Weapon proficiency.

Ravenna’s physical results attracted even more attention. She wasn’t the strongest student in raw physical output, but she was comfortably above average.

Her speed and endurance were excellent. Reaction time was among the best in Class Four even without activating Fire Step.

More importantly, she was consistent. Her first attempts and later attempts barely differed.

Peter noticed that.

"Arkland."

Ravenna looked toward him.

"How often do you train physically without using fire?"

"Almost every day."

"Why?"

Ravenna seemed surprised by the question.

"Because I still have a body when I run out of energy."

Peter stared at her for a second.

"Good answer."

Ravenna smiled and stepped away. She approached Silver who was waiting nearby.

"How did you do?"

"Apparently my lights don’t move."

Ravenna stared in confusion.

"What?"

"Nothing."

Silver held out a water bottle. Ravenna took it, drank, then handed it back. Silver drank from the same bottle.

Shirley saw, her expression did something complicated.

Silver noticed but said nothing while Ravenna didn’t notice at all since she was watching Helena.

Helena Seer’s physical evaluation wasn’t spectacular. Her strength was above average, speed ordinary, reaction good and endurance excellent.

Then came a resistance test. That was where she shone the brightest. The machine repeatedly applied increasing force while Helena maintained position.

Her feet barely moved even as more force was added. When more force was increased again her body shifted several centimeters but she corrected.

Peter finally stopped the machine.

Helena exhaled.

"Defensive reinforcement?"

"Partially."

"Your ability?"

"Barrier Anchoring."

Peter looked interested.

"Explain during ability demonstration."

Helena nodded.

By the time the physical phase ended, the atmosphere inside Class Four had changed.

People had started comparing, mostly out of curiosity.

The strongest raw physical result belonged to a boy Silver hadn’t learned much about yet.

The fastest natural runner was a girl from general entry.

Ravenna sat near the top across several categories.

Silver’s reaction score was highest once Spatial Sense was permitted.

Helena dominated resistance.

What was good about it was that no one person had won everything. That seemed deliberate too.

Peter gathered them.

"Five-minute water break. Then weapons."

Ravenna immediately walked toward Silver who reached for her hand. She gave it to him.

"You behaved," she jokingly said.

Silver smiled while rubbing the inside of her palm absentmidedly.

"You sound surprised."

"I am."

"That’s hurtful."

"You nearly killed yourself enough times for me to constantly worry"

"Technically most beasts seem to be strangely trying for my life, probably hired."

He chuckled but Ravenna only stared with little to no amusement.

Silver reconsidered.

"Bad distinction."

"Very."

He kissed her cheek.

Ravenna sighed, but the corner of her mouth lifted.

"You can’t kiss your way out of every argument."

"I haven’t found one it doesn’t improve."

"One day it won’t work."

Silver smiled.

"Today?"

Ravenna leaned over and kissed his cheek.

"No, it works perfectly fine."

Silver laughed.

The weapons phase began.

Peter made one thing clear immediately.

"Preferred weapon is not the weapon you think makes you look impressive." He walked past the racks. "It is the weapon you would choose if I told you that you had to enter a Yellow Zone in ten minutes."

That changed several answers. Students demonstrated primary weapons first.

Caleb used a heavy hammer. Mina used two short blades. Elias bow performance was excellent, as expected. Another student used a spear.

Then Shirley stepped forward.

Silver paid more attention and so did Ravenna.

Shirley’s primary weapon was a slender single-handed sword. Not a rapier, although it was lighter than Ravenna’s weapon.

Her movements were very precise clearly fully professionally trained.

Silver’s eyebrows rose slightly.

She wasn’t pretending, she could fight. Her footwork was clean and her thrusts controlled. She rarely overcommitted.

Peter made her transition between stationary and moving targets.

She adapted surprisingly well.

Ravenna watched without expression. Silver leaned closer.

"She’s good."

"I know, she had tutors since young."

There was no bitterness in her tone, just fact.

Silver nodded.

Shirley finished with one of the higher sword-proficiency scores so far.

Peter marked it.

Then Helena came next. Her primary weapon wasn’t the shield, it was a short spear. The shield was part of her ability equipment.

She demonstrated compact movements designed to work from behind protection: thrust, withdraw, redirect and brace. It was nothing flashy and everything practical.

Peter nodded.

"Secondary?"

"Handgun."

"Proficiency?"

"Intermediate."

She demonstrated and was also competent.

Then Ravenna was called and conversation quieted, she always held the crowds attention in many ways, plus everyone knew who she was by now.

She walked onto the training floor with her sword.

Silver watched because he liked watching her fight. She always looked the most beautiful in those moments to him.

Peter looked at his tablet.

"Primary weapon?"

"Sword."

"Secondary?"

"Rifle."

"Which are you better with?"

"Sword."

"Demonstrate."

Ravenna drew, the sword of metal ringing slightly.

The first target activated and she moved without using her ability which mattered.

Peter had asked for weapon proficiency, not ability proficiency.

Ravenna’s sword cut diagonally across the target. She reversed, the moment the second target approached and thrust. A third came from the side, she pivot and slashed it. ℴℴ𝘮

Her movements were faster than Shirley’s,more aggressive, but controlled. Targets activated around her and Ravenna moved through them.

One attack would have been awkward. She changed grip, corrected and continued without losing momentum.

Peter increased the speed and Ravenna adjusted with it. She didn’t destroy the targets, the weapons were dulled training versions but every hit registered.

The sequence ended and lowered the sword.

Several students were staring, mouth open.

Peter checked the score.

"How long?"

"Since I was young."

"Formal instructor?"

"A few in between but mostly self taught."

"Field use?"

"Yes."

"Against beasts?"

"Frequently."

Peter nodded.

"Rifle."

Ravenna transitioned. Her rifle score was lower, but still comfortably competent.

Peter looked at the results.

"Your secondary isn’t decorative."

"No."

"Good."

Ravenna returned.

Silver smiled.

"Showing off."

"I wasn’t."

"You absolutely were."

"I did what he asked."

"Very aggressively in my opinion."

Ravenna sat beside him.

"Jealous?"

Silver kissed her cheek.

"I’m proud."

Ravenna’s expression softened instantly. She looked forward before anyone could see too much of her smile.

[I’m enjoying writing how sticky this two are.]
