I Dumped My Mate—Now Every Beast King Wants Me
Chapter 107: Falling Off the Cliff
Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Falling Off the Cliff
"What? Mother is ill?" Ophelia was a little surprised, and the watering can in her hand fell to the ground with a thud.
"Yes, hurry up and come with me to take a look." The anxious expression on the Golden Dragon Clan male’s face didn’t seem faked.
"Okay, I’ll go with you right away."
Ophelia wanted to turn around and call out to Tyler, but she remembered she had sent him up the mountain to gather pigweed. And these past few days, Zerev and Moye hadn’t come by because they were busy hunting down Caesar. It seemed she would have to go to the Golden Dragon Clan alone.
Halfway there, following the Golden Dragon Clan male, Ophelia suddenly felt something was wrong. Just as she was about to secretly hide in her spatial dimension, a sharp pain struck the back of her neck. Her vision went black, and she lost consciousness.
When she woke up again, she found herself suspended in mid-air. Below her was a bottomless cliff. Her arm was caught in a vice-like grip by a hand, leaving purple and blue bruises on her otherwise fair skin.
"Never thought you’d see this day, did you, Ophelia? You’re finally getting your comeuppance," Miche’s voice rang out.
Ophelia shook her head to clear it, realizing she was tied to a tree. The person grabbing her arm was none other than Miche.
"Miche, what are you trying to do?"
"What else would I be doing? Killing you, of course."
Disappointed not to see a trace of panic on Ophelia’s face, Miche grabbed a handful of her hair and yanked hard. "Ophelia, if you obediently beg for mercy, I might just let you die a quick death."
"Do you even dare to kill me right now?" Facing Miche’s threat, Ophelia wasn’t afraid. She simply stared back at her coldly, making a flash of surprise cross Miche’s eyes.
"What nonsense are you sprouting?"
"You couldn’t have captured me on your own. Tell me, who exactly brought me here?" Ophelia knew that with Miche and Loki’s abilities alone, they could never have pulled this off. Otherwise, she would have died a thousand times over by now. Besides, if Miche was truly in charge, she would have killed her while she was unconscious. Since she didn’t dare to kill her now, there had to be a reason.
"As expected of the little female Zerev likes—you’re quite smart. It’s just a pity your status is too low." A tall male walked out of the bushes, a look of faux pity on his face.
"Who are you?" Ophelia didn’t recognize the male before her. But judging from his words, he knew Zerev and likely came from the same place. Otherwise, he wouldn’t speak in such an arrogant, condescending tone. "You kidnapped me to get revenge on Zerev. Well, I’m afraid you’ve caught the wrong person. He and I have nothing to do with each other."
Caesar sneered coldly. "You two have already formed a mate bond, and you still claim you have nothing to do with him? It seems you don’t like Zerev all that much, either. How about this? You help me today, and I’ll help you." A sly gleam flashed through his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
Before Caesar could speak, a Winged Dragon with silver-white wings appeared in the sky. The Winged Dragon let out a resonant roar, slowly swooping toward the ground as it shifted into its humanoid form.
"If you have a problem, come at me, Caesar! Don’t touch her!" Zerev’s eyes were bloodshot and brimming with killing intent.
Caesar scoffed. "It seems you really do like this little female. The news was sent out barely half a day ago, and you’ve already found your way here. To think that our esteemed Crown Prince of the Holy Capital would actually fall for a little female from a low-level tribe. If the people of the Holy Capital were to find out, this little female would probably not survive."
Zerev narrowed his silver eyes, his presence exuding a heavy pressure. "I can let you go, but you cannot hurt her."
"Zerev, do you still not understand? It’s not about whether you’ll let me go. It’s about whether I’ll let you go." Caesar paced over to Ophelia. Sharp claws extended from his fingertips, and he trailed them menacingly back and forth against her neck. "Such a perfect neck. It would be a shame if it were flawed somehow. Don’t you agree, Zerev?"
"Caesar, don’t do anything rash! I’ll agree to whatever you say!" Zerev stared tensely at Caesar’s hand.
Ophelia furrowed her brows. Right now, with Miche gripping her arm, hiding in her spatial dimension was impossible. She could only save herself. Remembering the life-and-death mate contract she shared with Zerev, Ophelia’s hands secretly felt for the vines binding her wrists.
"You want me to spare Ophelia? Fine. Let’s see how you prove it." Caesar tossed a Bone Knife in front of Zerev.
Zerev picked up the Bone Knife and, without even blinking, plunged it straight into his own thigh.
"No! Don’t! Stop!" Ophelia’s eyes welled with red, staring at Zerev in disbelief. How could he hurt himself for her?
She grew even more frantic, tearing at the vines. But because of the knockout drug she had been subjected to earlier, her strength hadn’t fully recovered. She could only grind against them little by little. The wrist-thick vine was already half worn through.
"Zerev, even if you die, they won’t let me go! Don’t be stupid!" Ophelia struggled, trying to snap the branches, but Caesar grabbed her by the throat, cutting off her voice.
"Zerev, this isn’t enough," Caesar said, his eyes filled with sinister coldness. "Isn’t the most important part of a Winged Dragon your wings? What, do you think this little female isn’t even worth a single feather from your wings?"
Zerev pulled the Bone Knife from his leg and stabbed himself in the shoulder. "Is this enough? Let her go!"
Caesar scrutinized Zerev, confirming that his current injuries rendered him no match for himself. He lost the desire to toy with him any further. After all, the other party was the Crown Prince of the Holy Capital. If he really died at his hands, the Holy Capital would issue a kill order against him, and he wasn’t ready to die just yet.
"Of course."
Caesar’s sharp claws slashed through the vines binding Ophelia. But before she could even react to being freed, another pair of hands shoved her heavily off the cliff at the exact moment the vines snapped.
"No, don’t!" Zerev’s eyes went scarlet, and he jumped off the cliff after her.
At this moment, the people hiding in the dark jumped out and attacked Caesar. Soon, both Caesar and Miche were captured.
Tyler stared coldly at Miche on the ground. He crouched down, morphed one hand into a dragon claw, and plunged it straight into her chest. He pulled out a clump of blood-red flesh that was still faintly beating.
"Tyler, you..." Miche stared in disbelief at the chunk of flesh in Tyler’s hand, before her body collapsed heavily to the ground.
"You should have died a long time ago." Tyler closed his hand, instantly crushing the still-beating heart.
The killing intent radiating from Tyler made Moye afraid to approach. But he had to speak. "Tyler, I’ve already sent people down to look for the Young Master and Ophelia. The Young Master is a Winged Dragon. He will definitely be able to save Ophelia."
Tyler calmly wiped his hands, then sat by the edge of the cliff and waited. He waited until the sky turned dark.
At the bottom of the pitch-black cliff, two figures were tightly entangled.
"Ugh..." Ophelia felt as though every bone in her body was aching. She slowly opened her eyes, her gaze meeting a sea of darkness.
She recalled that as she fell off the cliff, she had seen Zerev’s figure lunging toward her. A pair of pure white wings had materialized on his back as he rapidly dove toward her. He had managed to grab her, but because his arm was injured earlier, one of his wings was also impaired, preventing him from keeping his balance.
Halfway down, Zerev’s wings could no longer hold up, and the two of them plummeted rapidly toward the bottom of the cliff. Just before they hit the ground, Zerev had used his own body to tightly embrace her, taking the full force of the impact himself.
Her memories ending, Ophelia reached out and gently pushed the person tightly holding her.
"Zerev, wake up."
