Chapter 392: Chapter 205: Riding the Wind, a New Yuqing Secret Skill
"Chirp~"
Lan Ying let out a soft cry.
Qin Huaiming smiled. "Don’t worry, there’s one for you." As he spoke, he filled the last teacup.
Lan Ying immediately hopped onto Yang Wenqing’s lap and began to drink, leaning against his knee.
After both cups were empty, Qin Huaiming set down his teacup, looked at Yang Wenqing, and asked, "Is your internal qi stable now?"
"Master, it has stabilized."
"Mm, that’s good."
As he spoke, Qin Huaiming stood up and said, "Follow me."
With that, he led the way out of the main hall.
Yang Wenqing quickly followed, while Lan Ying flapped her wings and landed on his shoulder.
Stepping out of the grand, almost oppressive pavilion, they were met with the harsh afternoon sun. The intense light was surprisingly invigorating. Qin Huaiming led Yang Wenqing along a small path behind the building, one hidden among verdant bamboo and ancient vines, and they made their way toward the other side of the mountainside.
After walking for about the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea, the sound of gurgling water reached them from ahead. They passed through a dense bamboo forest and came upon a small mountain stream. Its water was crystal clear, flowing from a fissure in the rocks above and pooling into a small, emerald pond below. Not far from the pond’s edge, a small, hexagonal pavilion was built against the rock face, furnished with a stone table and stools.
Qin Huaiming led Yang Wenqing into the pavilion and sat down on a stone stool. His gaze drifted to the stream flowing outside before he suddenly asked, "Wenqing, how is your practice of the Wind Manipulation Technique coming along?"
Yang Wenqing immediately replied, "I began practicing the Wind Manipulation Technique during the Marrow Cleansing Second Transformation. For now, my control is only superficial, not yet enough to support flight on the wind."
Qin Huaiming nodded, then said, "Your foundation from the Marrow Cleansing Fourth Transformation is now solid, and your body contains nearly thirty percent Five Yang Qi. Compared to before, controlling it should be far more effective. Why don’t you give it a try now? Just go ahead. I’ll be here to watch over you."
Lan Ying chirped and circled once in mid-air, as if to say she would watch too.
"Yes, Master. I will give it a try."
As he spoke, Yang Wenqing walked to the edge of the pavilion. Facing the stream, he mobilized the Five Yang Qi within him and released his Divine Sense to perceive the active air currents above.
The next moment, Yang Wenqing’s body was lifted by an upward current of air.
"Yes, just like that!"
Qin Huaiming’s approving voice rang out at the right moment. "Don’t fight it with brute force. Go with the flow. Use your Divine Sense as your eyes to perceive the wind’s path, and use your Five Yang Qi as a guide to merge with it."
Yang Wenqing did as he was told, dedicating more of his Five Yang Qi and Divine Sense to perceiving the subtle changes in the air currents around him. He continuously fine-tuned his own aura to adapt and meld with the flowing wind.
Now, he no longer had to worry about interrupting his practice due to insufficient Five Yang Qi.
He was a bit clumsy at first, his body swaying slightly in the air. But as he grew more proficient, his form gradually stabilized. Sensing the relaxation in Yang Wenqing’s consciousness, Lan Ying finally dared to take flight, circling around him and conveying her own experience of riding the wind.
Yang Wenqing glanced at Lan Ying, then tried to guide another, slightly stronger mountain breeze blowing from the side.
"WHOOSH—"
The mountain wind swept past, and Yang Wenqing’s figure glided forward with it, light and effortless. His speed wasn’t fast, but it was exceptionally smooth, as if he were a part of the wind itself.
He then left the vicinity of the pavilion and moved out over the mountain stream.
Below him, the emerald pond and jagged rocks grew smaller. Around him was the crisp wind blowing through the forest. He... he was flying.
This wasn’t the brief gliding of the past, but true flight, riding the wind!
An indescribable joy and sense of accomplishment instantly filled Yang Wenqing’s chest. This was the first time since he began cultivating that he had broken free from the earth’s grasp and soared freely between heaven and earth, relying solely on his own power without any external aids.
He circled twice above the stream, acclimating to this brand-new way of moving. He then estimated the consumption of his internal reserves and realized that with his current stores and recovery rate of Five Yang Qi, he could maintain this flight for an hour.
A moment later, still wishing for more, he reluctantly controlled his descent and landed back in the pavilion.
"Master!"
Yang Wenqing’s face was still alight with a joy that had yet to fade. It was rare to see such an expression on him.
Seeing his disciple’s heartfelt joy, Qin Huaiming’s face broke into a gratified smile. "Not bad. You’ll need to practice diligently from now on until you can rise with a single thought, moving as easily as your own limbs. Only then can it be useful at a critical moment."
"Yes!"
Yang Wenqing bowed in acknowledgement.
Qin Huaiming continued, "Since you have cultivated a considerable amount of Five Yang Qi, you should have a corresponding technique for protection and combat. Although the orthodox Yuqing path values a centered and peaceful approach, it also possesses thunderous methods. Today, I will teach you the Golden Fire Skill."
"The Golden Fire Skill?" Yang Wenqing looked puzzled.
Qin Huaiming didn’t waste words. He used his Divine Sense as a conduit to directly imprint an arcane and ancient Spell into Yang Wenqing’s Sea of Consciousness.
Yang Wenqing immediately began to digest the contents of the Secret Technique. The text was only a few hundred characters long and read as follows:
"Metal, by its nature, is transformative: strong, upright, contracting, and deadly. Light, by its form, is radiant and swift, unimpeded, dispelling darkness to reveal truth.
Refine the Metal of the lungs to align with Venus; draw the essence of the sun from without to correspond with the Li Fire. When Metal and Fire assist each other, they converge at a single point.
Beginners should face east and south during the hours of Yin and Wu, gathering the qi of the nascent sun and the midday sun, using the Five Yang as a base to condense the Magic.
When the Metal qi is abundant, one can then condense light according to the method. Initially, the condensed light will be like sparks of fire and must be repeatedly forged with Divine Sense—refining the pure from the coarse—until it solidifies like a needle, its brilliance contained within.
Upon mastery, with but a thought, a golden light will erupt, akin to Gengxin Sword Qi, coursing across the land, shattering evil and dispelling illusions, indestructible. However, one must remember that this technique is excessively sharp and can easily disrupt harmony. One must never become arrogant with its power and lose the Yuqing foundation of being centered and upright."
"This technique may seem simple, but it actually requires an extremely high degree of control over your Five Yang Qi and a high level of strength in the Metal qi of your lungs." Qin Huaiming’s voice sounded from the side, pulling Yang Wenqing back from his contemplation.
"Although you have thirty percent Five Yang Qi in your body, you’ve only just acquired it, and it still needs to be refined and purified. Today, I will first guide you through the basics of gathering qi, refining metal, and condensing light into form. Afterward, you must practice diligently. Only when the Metal qi of your lungs is abundant and naturally sharp will you be able to truly unleash this technique’s power."
"Yes, Master. Please guide me." Yang Wenqing composed himself and said respectfully.
"First is gathering qi and refining metal."
Qin Huaiming stood beside Yang Wenqing. "Although this isn’t the optimal time of Yin or Wu, the Five Yang Qi on Jade Chime Island is abundant, so you can still practice."
"Circulate the Yuqing Secret Skill, but instead of absorbing all Five Yang elements, focus your Divine Sense on the Metal and Fire qi. The lungs correspond to Metal, whose qi is sharp and deadly. The heart corresponds to Fire, whose qi blazes upward. What you need to do is use your own Five Yang Qi as a catalyst to capture and separate the essence of these two types of Spiritual Qi from the world around you."
Yang Wenqing focused his mind and began to sense it.
After speaking, Qin Huaiming extended his right hand and tapped lightly. Instantly, two auras—one of metal, one of fire—materialized in front of him.
Yang Wenqing immediately identified the pale white aura with its sharp, metallic feel, and the scorching, dancing crimson aura.
He at once tried to use his own Five Yang Qi to attract the two auras, drawing them toward him little by little.
Qin Huaiming continued to instruct, "Correct. Sense their presence. Your Five Yang Qi is centered and gentle, highly inclusive. It can act as a bridge to communicate with the Metal and Fire qi, allowing them to temporarily coexist and merge under your guidance."
Yang Wenqing did as he was told, making his Five Yang Qi resonate with the Metal qi at the gentlest frequency. He then split off another wisp of Five Yang Qi to make contact with the crimson Fire qi.
The process seemed simple, but in reality, it was incredibly draining on his mind. It required extremely fine control over his own Five Yang Qi and a deep understanding of the characteristics of different types of Spiritual Qi.
If not for the large amount of Five Yang Qi he had previously converted, coupled with the fact that his Divine Sense had been tempered by the projection of the Golden Core World and was far stronger than his peers, he likely wouldn’t have even been able to complete this first step.
At this point, Qin Huaiming also guided his own Metal and Fire qi to make contact with Yang Wenqing’s Five Yang Qi. Gradually, Yang Wenqing managed to weave the two auras together.
"Now, try to ’have Metal and Fire assist each other, converging at a single point’."
Qin Huaiming’s voice guided him. "Use your Five Yang Qi as the medium..."
Yang Wenqing held his breath, pouring his entire focus into the task. Using his spiritual will as a hammer and his Five Yang Qi as an anvil, he carefully controlled the ratio of Metal and Fire qi, as well as the angle and intensity of their collision.
Once, twice, three times... failure followed failure.
Just as Yang Wenqing felt his Divine Sense being consumed at a massive rate, making it difficult to continue, a minute adjustment seemed to touch upon a wondrous point of balance.
The pale white Metal qi and the crimson Fire qi began to attract and spin in a strange way, rotating at high speed around an invisible central point. Their colors gradually began to merge, shifting toward a pale gold that held an incandescent white light within.
"Now!" Qin Huaiming urged. "Lock onto the fusion point with your spiritual will, protect it with your Five Yang Qi, then condense the light into form! Let that single point of fused Metal and Fire qi transform into the world’s sharpest golden light!"
