Chapter 409 -384: Secretly Directing Everything

The entire internet in Myanmar erupted.

In any country, anyone who wants to reach a high position must publicize how they love their people and will work for their benefit.

Caring for the people is fundamental.

If a leader disregards the lives of the people, they will be resisted and cast aside by all.

Thus, the principle that the water that bears the boat is the same that swallows it up.

Now, across the entire internet in Myanmar, anyone who logged on could see the video of Duodoli slaughtering civilians.

It was a horrifying sight.

Moreover, the comments under the video were filled with people furiously calling for a boycott against Duodoli.

And were there any who spoke up for Duodoli?

Take a guess.

Of course there were. The internet is filled with countless types of people with countless different ideologies.

But at a time like this, it was impossible for any pro-Duodoli comments to appear online.

Right now, the internet was a one-sided smear campaign against Duodoli.

Even those who wanted to support Duodoli were helpless; they were no match for an artificial intelligence.

So, under these circumstances, not a single citizen had a favorable impression of Duodoli. He was met with extreme disgust and profanity everywhere.

Under this influence, everyone found it hard to understand. How could Duodoli turn on his own countrymen?

Was he a demon?

“We must boycott Duodoli, or Myanmar is truly doomed.”

“Yes, we have to march in protest against him.”

“I used to think those rebels were the bad guys. Now I realize I spoke too harshly.”

“…”

These suggestions were like sparks landing in a barrel of oil; the flames began to spread.

Protesters began to appear on the streets.

Naturally, the ones most pleased by this were the rebel forces.

After Duodoli had subdued the other generals with his tactics, life had certainly been difficult for them.

Now, the pressure on them had suddenly eased, and they were even thinking about causing some trouble for Duodoli.

After all, with this turn of events, even eliminating Duodoli seemed possible.

If that happened, Myanmar—and their opportunity—would be laid bare before them.

It was at this moment that they all received a mysterious message. It called on them to unite, dispatch men to eliminate Duodoli first, and then decide the future of Myanmar amongst themselves.

None of them knew who had sent the message.

But it didn’t matter. It was surely one of their own, and all of them wanted Duodoli dead.

Therefore, taking this opportunity to eliminate Duodoli aligned perfectly with their interests.

And so, a group of assassins began to assemble from among these rebel forces.

None of the assassins bothered to investigate the others; they all knew everyone else was from one of the other factions.

All they had to do now was focus on completing their mission.

And because of this, they failed to notice that a few strange individuals had joined their ranks.

These individuals didn’t belong to any of the rebel factions.

Moreover, they were surprised to find they were receiving specific mission details on their phones—information guiding them to the central city and on how to assassinate Duodoli.

This was a welcome surprise. The accuracy of the information gave them immense confidence in their mission to assassinate Duodoli.

…

「Myanmar.」

「The Central Building.」

Duodoli sat on the sofa in his office, his face a mask of bitter resentment.

‘He never had any intention of fighting for power; he only ever wanted to contribute to Myanmar. It was fate that had pushed him to the forefront and into this current predicament.’

‘Thanks to his efforts, everything had clearly been heading in the right direction. Who could have known things would turn out like this?’

He couldn’t accept it.

‘Those people deserved to die, daring to abandon Myanmar and flee to the Xuanfeng Alliance.’

‘He wasn’t wrong to kill them.’

“Mr. Duodoli, what do we do now?” his secretary asked with a frown.

Duodoli stood up, his expression dark. “I can’t fall like this. I absolutely cannot fall. If I do, Myanmar will truly be finished. For Myanmar, for the people of Myanmar, I must see this through.”

He immediately ordered his secretary, “Send men to find that soldier at once. No matter what it takes, make him change his story. Make him say the people I killed were rioters and spies, to prove I did nothing wrong.”

“Also, call a press conference. I will do my best to explain everything. I will make them believe I did this for Myanmar, make them understand me, and make them believe those people deserved to die.”

The secretary nodded. ‘This probably won’t have much effect,’ he thought, ‘but we have to at least try.’

Just then, Duodoli’s phone rang.

It was an unknown number.

Duodoli was puzzled but answered it anyway. Not just anyone could get through to this number, and it certainly wasn’t one that would receive spam calls.

Upon answering, he heard an eager voice on the other end. “May I ask, is this Mr. Duodoli?”

Duodoli frowned. “This is he.”

The person on the other end said excitedly, “That’s great! I finally reached you! I have something very important to report. Someone wants to assassinate you. They’ve already gathered a large number of assassins.”

Hearing this, Duodoli’s expression instantly darkened. “How can you prove what you’re saying is true?”

The voice on the other end replied immediately, “Because I’m an assassin, too. I’m one of the ones who was recruited to kill you. We’ve already entered the central city; we might not be far away right now.”

“But even though I’m an assassin, I’m one with a conscience. I know how important you are to Myanmar right now. If you die, Myanmar will fall into irredeemable ruin.”

“I’m an assassin, yes, but I’m also a citizen of Myanmar. And the people I’ve killed before were all people who deserved to die.”

“I don’t want to see my country fall into chaos, into such a terrible state. It shouldn’t be like this.”

“Besides, Mr. Duodoli, I understand you. I know why you killed those people. They all deserved to die for abandoning their own country.”

The assassin’s monologue actually made Duodoli’s heart feel warm. It was as if the man had spoken the very thoughts in his mind.

‘Exactly.’

He suddenly found himself identifying with this assassin.

Duodoli even said, “You know, you don’t have to be an assassin.”

He was trying to recruit him.

But the assassin on the other end replied, “Mr. Duodoli, I don’t know how to do anything but kill. All right, I’m afraid they’ll notice something’s wrong. I’ll send you all their information and keep you updated on their status.”

With that, the line went dead.

A moment later, Duodoli received an email. It contained files—dossiers on the very assassins hired by the rebel forces.

Duodoli immediately had his men verify the information and was horrified to discover that these people were indeed all assassins or vicious, hardened criminals.

‘Those rebel forces gathered these people… they really are after my life!’

This made him trust the assassin completely.

‘In this time of crisis, a righteous warrior, a hero, has still appeared to help him. He truly is the chosen one.’

Obviously, Duodoli didn’t know that his “righteous warrior,” his “hero,” was at this very moment reporting to a young man.

Xiaozhi reported, “Master, all the pieces are in place. The rest of the show is ours to direct. When Duodoli is eliminated, it will look like the result of infighting between their own factions. It will have nothing to do with the Xuanfeng Alliance.”

Lu Feng watched Xiaozhi’s series of operations and performances firsthand, a smile creeping onto his lips. ‘A job well done,’ he praised inwardly.

‘This way, once Duodoli is dead, I can have Baguda quickly arrange to continue taking in the people of Myanmar.’

‘I wonder if, as things develop, there might even be a chance to annex Myanmar.’

‘If that happens, once the economy catches up, the Xuanfeng Alliance will no longer be just a small country.’
