I Carry a Game World With Me
Chapter 406 - 381: How Could We Possibly Go Back?
Tetra's expression was incredibly grim.
He had extended his invitation with such confidence, only to be rejected. What was with their attitude? They even seemed afraid he would force them to go back, practically wishing he would leave as soon as possible.
'Could it be that these people have no regard for their motherland at all?'
'Don't they want to return to their homeland?'
'No, that's impossible.'
He refused to believe that his fellow countrymen, who had fled to the Xuanfeng Alliance, could forget their homeland in such a short time.
With that thought, he slammed his hand on the table and glared viciously at the town mayor. "Are you behind this? Did you deliberately arrange for these people?"
"You're defying the orders of your Xuanfeng Alliance! Your officials promised to cooperate with us."
The mayor looked at Tetra as if he were an idiot. 'Doesn't this guy get it? The Alliance is so confident because they know these people from Myanmar don't want to go back.'
Compared to the comfortable life here, only a fool would go back to a life of poverty.
The mayor asked Tetra, "Mr. Tetra, if I told you this has nothing to do with me, you certainly wouldn't believe it..."
"Do you take me for a fool?" Tetra said with a frown.
"Then there's nothing I can do," the mayor said, shaking his head. 'Isn't this guy a fool?'
With that, he ignored Tetra and turned to leave, as if he had his own work to do.
When Tetra saw the mayor walk away, his expression grew even darker. He was now more certain of his suspicions.
'But does he really think this tactic will work?'
"We're leaving." Tetra immediately led his men out of the office. Once they were outside the town's administrative building, he ordered one of his entourage, "Go find me a megaphone."
In this situation, he had to take matters into his own hands.
The man from his entourage quickly returned with a megaphone.
Tetra took the megaphone and looked around. There were clearly still many people from Myanmar nearby.
So, he raised the megaphone and shouted to the crowd, "My fellow countrymen from Myanmar, look over here! I have good news for you. Please come and listen."
He now understood why the mayor had arranged for those so-called "representatives"—it was all to put on this show for him.
So now he was calling out himself. He refused to believe the mayor could still interfere.
The Myanmarese refugees in the area heard Tetra's voice and gathered around, curious.
After all, the man had said there was good news. Maybe the Xuanfeng Alliance was announcing some new policy for them.
Seeing more and more people from Myanmar gathering around him, a smile touched Tetra's lips.
'This town's mayor doesn't understand. The true will of the people can't be faked by just bringing in a few people.'
He would take these countrymen back right in front of the mayor, just to spite him.
With this thought, Tetra raised the megaphone and shouted to his fellow refugees from Myanmar, "My countrymen, I bring you good news today! The chaos in our homeland is almost over! You no longer have to live as exiles. I'm here to take you all back to Myanmar! Please, pack your things. I will arrange for your return to our homeland."
His words were immediately met with a chorus of boos.
"I thought it was something important."
"Yeah, it's just some big shot official from Myanmar."
"Let's go. This isn't good news."
"..."
After hearing what Tetra said, the Myanmarese refugees all showed expressions of disdain before scattering and walking away.
'Go back? No way. We worked so hard to escape. Only a fool would go back now.'
This scene left Tetra dumbfounded. He watched the crowd disperse with a look of utter disbelief.
'How could this be?'
'Have these people really abandoned their homeland?'
Tetra couldn't believe it. He caught up to two of them and demanded, "Why? Have you forgotten your homeland so quickly?"
"I haven't forgotten," the man said.
"Then you don't want to go back?" Tetra asked, hopeful.
"No," the man said, shaking his head.
"Why?" Tetra was confused.
The man said mockingly, "You're an official from Myanmar, right? Didn't you look into our situation before coming here? I make 450,000 Myanmar Kyat a month, enjoy all sorts of benefits, and my children get nine years of compulsory education, tuition-free. Can Myanmar offer me that kind of treatment?"
Tetra was stunned by his words.
'What a joke. 450,000 Myanmar Kyat a month? How could they possibly pay an ordinary person that much?'
'But the Xuanfeng Alliance actually pays them that much?'
'And provides free education for their children?'
"So, what makes you think I'd go back with you?" the Myanmarese refugee retorted.
This left Tetra completely speechless.
He couldn't understand how this could be happening.
'Could the Xuanfeng Alliance really afford to pay them such high wages? Free education for their children? How is that possible?'
In Myanmar, they hadn't even achieved universal education.
'But if that wasn't the case, why would these people have this attitude?'
He had never expected this.
Tetra immediately made a phone call to another person in charge to ask about the situation.
He soon learned from that person that the result was the same: they were also completely unable to bring anyone back.
It turned out that the Myanmarese refugees who had fled to the Xuanfeng Alliance had absolutely no desire to return.
This time, Tetra was certain. The Xuanfeng Alliance really could afford to pay them such wages.
'Then how are we supposed to get them to go back? It's impossible to persuade them.'
'This isn't working. We can only have Mr. Duodoli put more pressure on the Xuanfeng Alliance. The only way to get these people back is if the Xuanfeng Alliance deports them.'
'Mr. Duodoli's plan should be in motion by now. The Xuanfeng Alliance will have to negotiate then.'
Duodoli's plan, of course, involved the soldiers he had amassed near Dalat Town. He had already dispatched a group to start causing friction at the town's borders, forcing the Xuanfeng Alliance to agree to his demands.
BOOM!~
An explosion rang out just outside Dalat Town.
Outside Dalat Town, a squad of about twenty Myanmarese soldiers was loitering provocatively.
They were, of course, the team sent to provoke a conflict.
Perhaps because the people in Dalat Town weren't reacting, these soldiers grew even more brazen, now amusing themselves by tossing grenades.
Inside Dalat Town, Commander Red Lizard watched this scene with a frown.
All around him were densely packed special soldiers, weapons in hand, standing at attention. They were ready for battle, yet they stood perfectly still, not moving for a long time.
These special soldiers, having undergone a unique enhancement using Mutant Beast Bones, not only possessed increased individual strength but also displayed superior military discipline.
Without orders, they wouldn't move a muscle. They were terrifyingly still, but once they took action, they would unleash truly terrifying destructive power.
They were clearly waiting for Commander Red Lizard's orders.
The adjutant beside him couldn't bear to watch any longer and asked, "Commander Red Lizard, aren't we going to retaliate?"
Commander Red Lizard frowned. "Don't be hasty. The time isn't right. If we're going to strike back, we need to annihilate them and make them suffer such a devastating loss that they have no chance to counter."
"Now we are waiting for Myanmar's side to act. The Governor has given the order: once control is established over the soldiers he has designated, then they can make their move."
「Outside Dalat Town.」
Seeing that Dalat Town remained silent even after they had lobbed grenades, the Myanmarese soldiers grew bolder and moved closer.
