Chapter 202: Chapter 136: This Fish Meat Is More Suitable for Men, You Know

Cats are notoriously curious, and he didn’t want to come to the shop the next day to find a fish tank full of dead fish.

Dahuang had lived in the seafood market for who knows how many years. He was a street-smart cat that knew how to survive, not cause trouble.

"Alright!" Ye Jing nodded and began to gather the necessary supplies for him.

The cat was free, but the supplies weren’t.

Gu Nan had money now, so he accepted the payment without any hesitation.

After they loaded everything into the pickup, Ye Jing patted the side of the truck and laughed. "Having a pickup to haul things really is convenient."

"You bet. By the way, come to my shop for dinner tonight. I went out to sea last night and caught something good," Gu Nan invited him before getting into his truck.

"Really? Then I’ll definitely be there!" Ye Jing’s eyes lit up. ’Something good... that must mean some kind of premium seafood. I have to go try it.’

’He wasn’t a huge fan of seafood, but that stuff was expensive. Why pass up a free meal?’

On his way back, Gu Nan also called An Jun and invited him to the shop for dinner.

At the mention of food, the guy immediately agreed. He was probably already scrambling over to the shop.

Gu Nan didn’t go straight back to the shop. He made a special trip to buy two bags of adult diapers, and only then did he return.

The moment he lifted the small cat carrier from the passenger seat, Yi Chen rushed over. Her eyes lit up when she saw the kitten, and she eagerly reached out to take it.

The tuxedo kitten was still tiny when Ye Jing had rescued and treated it. It had been hand-reared, so it wasn’t aggressive like a feral cat. When Yi Chen lifted it out, it just blinked at her curiously.

"Wow, what an adorable kitten!" Zhao Jiajia exclaimed, immediately reaching out to stroke its head.

Gu Nan paid them no mind, carrying the two cat beds into the shop. He placed them in a dry, empty spot to the right of the counter.

’I’ll just have to move the claw machine. I can put it by the entrance during the day.’

"Dahuang, you’ve got your own bed now!"

Gu Nan walked over and scratched the belly of Dahuang, who was sprawled on his back atop a freezer. After waking him, he picked him up and placed him in one of the new beds.

Dahuang’s face was a picture of groggy confusion, but he snapped out of it the moment he was placed in the cat bed. He immediately rolled over and started sniffing it relentlessly.

Since Gu Nan was in a good mood, he also got a creamy cat treat for him.

No one in the seafood market ever fed Dahuang these kinds of treats, so he devoured it with great relish.

He finished the treat in no time. Seeing that it was gone, he started meowing at Gu Nan incessantly.

"That’s enough. Look how chubby you are already. Come on, let me introduce you to your new little bro. You need to take good care of him from now on."

"Little brother? She’s a little sister," Zhao Jiajia corrected him.

"Huh? The tuxedo kitten is a she?" Gu Nan looked stunned.

"You’re the one who got her, and you didn’t even know?" Zhao Jiajia asked, surprised as well.

"A friend gave her to me. I honestly didn’t notice. Well, in that case... looks like I found Dahuang a little wifey!"

Gu Nan had no idea if Dahuang had any other "wives." All stray cats were driven away from the area around the seafood market.

Strays with a temperament like Dahuang’s were rare; most were aggressive, which is why they weren’t allowed inside the market.

The other strays would only sneak over at night when no one was around, scavenging for food from the dumpsters near the market.

There were, however, plenty of strays in the village alleys.

Gu Nan didn’t dislike strays, but his tolerance was limited to friendly, harmless cats like Dahuang.

The afternoon flew by. An Jun had said he was coming right over, but by the time the shop’s busy hours ended and Yi Chen started preparing dinner, he still hadn’t shown up.

Gulu. That was the name of the tuxedo kitten.

Yi Chen had named her, saying she made a "gulu" sound when she ate.

Right now, she was patrolling the entire seafood shop, sniffing at this and peeking at that. Fortunately, Dahuang was keeping an eye on her. She tried to jump into a fish tank to catch fish several times, but Dahuang stopped her each time.

When Gulu got too restless, he would even pin her down in his paws, as if teaching her the difference between having one meal and having a meal for life.

Yi Chen watched them, amused. "Gulu is actually pretty mischievous. Poor old father Dahuang is at his wit’s end!"

"Thank goodness for Dahuang. I’ll reward him with a can of cat food tonight," Gu Nan said, relieved. "Yi Chen, could you take Gulu home tonight to look after her? She’s in her super-curious phase, and I’m not sure Dahuang can watch her all by himself when we’re not here."

"Really? Can I?" Yi Chen asked, her face lighting up with a pleasant surprise.

"Of course. I’m often out at sea, so I don’t have time to look after her." ’If it weren’t for her, he might not have even adopted Gulu in the first place.’

Outside, the sun was beginning to set. Yi Chen finally finished cooking dinner. With Zhao Jiajia helping out, the preparations had gone much faster than usual.

They had just finished placing all the dishes on the small table—including the plate of pan-fried oilfish—when An Jun and Ye Jing arrived.

"Well now, what’re the odds? Did you two just follow your noses here?" Gu Nan said teasingly.

An Jun grinned. "Hey, as long as we made it in time. I’m not as idle as I used to be, you know!"

"Where are your girlfriends? How come you didn’t bring them today?"

"Nana’s busy today."

"Enfei went back to Korea for some business with her cosmetics."

Gu Nan nodded. ’Perfect that they didn’t come. That way, they won’t accidentally eat the oilfish and suffer along with their men.’

"Alright, let’s eat! I prepared these two pieces of fish especially for you guys."

Zhao Jiajia, who had been holding it in all afternoon, finally couldn’t resist asking, "What on earth is this fish?"

"A deep-sea fish."

"Can I try some?"

"Nope!"

"What gives? Why are you being so stingy?"

Seeing this, An Jun quickly chimed in. "Whoa, whoa, Ah Nan, what’s with that? The food’s on the table, how can you not let her have any..."

"This fish is... better suited for men. You know what I mean!" Gu Nan chuckled, flashing a knowing, man-to-man grin.

"Hmph, you should’ve just said so!" Zhao Jiajia instantly lost all interest in the fish. It was mainly because his comment made it too embarrassing for her to eat it.

Yi Chen, standing nearby, breathed a sigh of relief. ’I just reminded this silly friend of mine, and she still couldn’t contain her curiosity at dinner.’
