There were plenty of fish, but they were mainly of two types: hairtail and scorpionfish. The sheer size of each one, however, surprised Yi Chen.

"Boss, are these huge hairtails and scorpionfish what you caught last night?"

The hairtail weren’t as shocking. While it was surprising to see them so large, they could often be found in the markets during the fishing season. Whether or not they were fresh, however, was another story.

But as for scorpionfish this large, Yi Chen felt she’d never seen one in her entire twenty years of life.

"Mhm. Sell the hairtail for one hundred a pound. If customers complain about the price, explain that these are fresh, line-caught hairtail. I caught them last night and brought them right over. As for the scorpionfish, sell them for two hundred a pound."

Scorpionfish caught from the shore could sell for a hundred if they were over half a pound. His were at least a pound and a half each, so selling them for two hundred wouldn’t be a problem at all.

With seafood, size and freshness are what sells.

Yi Chen nodded, her gaze falling on the last three deep-sea fish she didn’t recognize.

"Let’s make fish soup for dinner over the next few days. Oh, right, and there are these two fillets. Pan-fry them when the time comes. I’m calling An Jun and Ye Jing over for dinner, too. These two pieces are specially for them."

Looking at the two snow-white fillets in Gu Nan’s hands, Yi Chen tilted her head. She had a feeling he was up to no good.

After working with him for nearly a month, she knew that whenever Gu Nan squinted and smiled, he was probably about to mess with someone. And the most frequent target of that smile was An Jun.

She offered a silent prayer for An Jun and Ye Jing in advance. Although she was curious what was so special about the fish, she didn’t press the issue. ’Some things reveal themselves soon enough.’

After getting everything settled, Gu Nan took off again. He went home, showered, changed his clothes, and then drove to Ye Jing’s pet shop.

The two employees in the shop were busy tending to the small pets, while Ye Jing himself was feeding a kitten.

"Hey. The cat you wanted is over on the left, in a cage. Go find it yourself," Ye Jing said without much reaction, pointing to the left side of the store.

Gu Nan didn’t disturb him and went to the left side of the shop to find his cat. However, he was dumbfounded when he saw a tuxedo cat lounging like a mob boss.

It was an adult tuxedo cat. People always said tuxedo cats were neurotic, and one look at this one proved it.

’If the one Ye Jing picked out for me has this kind of attitude, I’m definitely exchanging it. No question about it!’

"Meeeoow~"

Just then, a sweet, coquettish meow caught Gu Nan’s attention.

He turned to look and his eyes lit up when he discovered an adorable, beautiful, petite tuxedo cat staring right at him.

Tuxedo cats are a type of domestic cat whose appearance can vary wildly, from stunningly beautiful to comically plain.

Take this long-haired tuxedo cat Ye Jing had picked for him, for example. It looked just like a Ragdoll—the absolute pinnacle of beauty for a tuxedo cat.

The less attractive ones, on the other hand, looked like their markings had been slapped on carelessly, with patterns resembling a bowl cut or other random splotches. They weren’t ugly, per se, but one glance was enough to make you burst out laughing.

"Looks like you’re the one!"

Gu Nan turned, grabbed a creamy cat treat from a shelf, tore it open, then returned to open the cage and feed the cat.

The little tuxedo cat was instantly drawn to the treat, sidling over to eat it with delicate nibbles. With a good friend who owned a pet shop, he knew how to quickly win a kitten over.

After it had eaten half the treat, Gu Nan tentatively reached out to pet the tuxedo cat’s head.

The tuxedo cat, completely engrossed in the treat, didn’t mind being petted on the head. It seemed to be a very quiet and gentle little thing.

Just then, Ye Jing appeared beside the two employees and coughed softly. Once they fell silent, he glanced cautiously back at Gu Nan before whispering, "Watch it. We can talk about this after he leaves."

The two employees nodded repeatedly, promising not to let the secret slip.

Ye Jing smiled in satisfaction and walked over to Gu Nan.

"So, what do you think? This cat’s great, isn’t it!"

"Yeah, she’s great. Seems pretty well-behaved, too." Gu Nan was already starting to like the little cat, who had finished her treat and was now sitting up to wash her face.

He stood up and pointed to the adult tuxedo cat nearby, which was still lying on its back with its legs splayed open, watching them. "If she were like that one, I’d never dare to take her."

Ye Jing gave an awkward laugh. "Oh, it’s not that bad. That one’s just got a quirky personality. Overall, it’s still pretty obedient."

Gu Nan waved him off. "Alright, I’ll take four cat beds and three litter boxes. As for the rest—food, treats, toys—get me fully kitted out. Enough for three full setups."

Ye Jing was stunned. "Why on earth do you need so many cat beds?"

Gu Nan explained, "Two beds are for the shop—one’s for Big Orange. The other two will be for Yi Chen’s place and mine. At night, if I’m too busy after work, I’ll have Yi Chen take the tuxedo cat home to look after."

"Uh, alright then! By the way, you’re not taking her on the boat with you?"

"I’m not planning to. I’m usually too busy to look after her when I’m out at sea."

This was also why Gu Nan planned to have Yi Chen take the cat home at night; this particular tuxedo cat wasn’t well-suited for being kept in the shop overnight.
