At the same time, cracks began to spiderweb across the ground of the Mad Blade Sect, accompanied by violent tremors.

As the tremors continued, a massive mound of earth gradually rose up in the small courtyard.

Once the giant mound broke through the surface, its true form was revealed.

It was a vermilion coffin. Dark, black patterns were etched upon it, flickering in and out of sight as they pulsed with a cold, sinister light.

And as these dark patterns flashed, wisps of a terrifying aura spread out, utterly annihilating everything in the vicinity.

All one hundred-plus buildings of the Mad Blade Sect were reduced to dust by this destructive aura.

"CRACK!"

A crisp sound echoed from the coffin. Immediately after, deep cracks appeared on its lid.

A withered hand emerged from the lid, gripping the edge of the coffin.

The coffin lid disintegrated into ash, and a mummified figure sat up from within.

The figure was dressed in a Daoist Robe. It was so withered and gaunt that its features were unrecognizable.

Its eyes were riddled with bloodshot veins, and its pupils emanated a dull, vacant light.

When the Grand Elder was caught in its gaze, he felt the hair on his body stand on end, as if he had been plunged into the depths of hell.

He took several deep breaths to calm his terrified thoughts before raising a hand and pointing.

The black water that had coalesced into a human form in the sky descended into the coffin, filling it completely.

After the black water poured in, the mummified body in the coffin began to swell rapidly.

Its once withered form gradually filled out. Flesh and blood regenerated, and its muscles and bones were revitalized.

Hair like wild weeds turned from white to black, eventually becoming a full head of long, dark hair.

The decrepit, decaying corpse slowly transformed into a dashingly handsome young male Daoist.

At this moment, the vacant look in the Daoist's eyes was gradually fading, soon to be replaced by humanity.

He opened his mouth, and an ancient, decaying voice spoke, "I clung to life in this world using a spirit-sealing technique. To finally reappear today... I have truly endured countless tribulations."

As soon as the Daoist finished speaking, the Grand Elder dropped to his knees with a THUD, immediately drawing the Daoist's attention.

The Grand Elder announced loudly, "A member of the Wild Taoist Sect pays his respects to Senior Drunken Daoist."

The Drunken Daoist shifted his gaze to the Grand Elder and slowly rose from the coffin.

The coffin below him turned to ash.

The Drunken Daoist descended from the sky and landed on the ground. His Daoist Robe fluttered in the wind, giving him an ethereal, otherworldly aura.

"You are from the Wild Taoist Sect. What is the Wild Taoist Sect?"

The Drunken Daoist's tone was extremely gentle and refined, as if speaking to a junior.

Kneeling on the ground, the Grand Elder nodded quickly and said, "The Wild Taoist Sect paid a great price. Our leader spent half his life nurturing his left eye, constantly tempering it with Yin Qi, to finally perfect the Summoning Spirit Technique and resurrect you, Senior."

"I was never dead. How could I be resurrected?"

The Drunken Daoist shook his head. "I just never expected that with the passage of time and the changing of the world, the movements of the earth would shift me to this place."

The Grand Elder hurriedly said, "We used various Secret Techniques and went to great lengths to learn that you were hidden here, Senior."

The Drunken Daoist turned back and said flatly, "It sounds like you're trying to claim credit."

"I wouldn't dare."

The Grand Elder said, "This humble one wouldn't dare. I only wish for Senior to help the Wild Taoist Sect with a small matter. After all, back in the Era of Ten Thousand Cities, you were at odds with all the Daoist Sects in the world, and the Wild Taoist Sect is also at odds with them."

"In that era, there was no Wild Taoist Sect, as I recall. You've taken the character for 'wild.' It seems you are not an Orthodox Daoist Sect."

The Drunken Daoist's eyes gradually turned cold.

The Grand Elder was stunned for a moment, then he jerked his head up and said, "Senior, back in the Era of Ten Thousand Cities, all the Daoist Sects targeted you, and your philosophy was incompatible with the Daoist Sects. The philosophy of the Wild Taoist Sect is also incompatible with the Daoist Sects, so we are on the same path!"

A drop of cold sweat trickled down his forehead.

'Something feels wrong.'

'The Wild Taoist Sect's plan might have a major flaw.'

'According to the Cangxuan Taoist's plan, the Wild Taoist Sect and the Drunken Daoist were supposed to be compatible.'

'And since they brought the Drunken Daoist back from the brink of death, he should be on their side.'

'But now, every word from the Drunken Daoist is sharp and pointed, as if he looks down on them.'

Hearing this, the Drunken Daoist gave a faint smile. "While my philosophy was indeed incompatible with all the Daoist Sects, I never once claimed to be part of the Wild Taoist Sect. It seems your Daoist Skills have strayed onto a deviant, extreme path, one that even requires the sacrifice of countless lives to cultivate."

The Grand Elder quickly replied, "That is what sets us apart from other Daoist Sects! We of the Wild Taoist Sect use the ultimate sacrifice of life to explore the deepest extremes of Daoist Skills! This is what we, the people of the Daoist School, should be doing! We must follow the ultimate path of the Dao!"

He began to use every ounce of his knowledge, trying to persuade the Drunken Daoist.

Because he could feel a trace of killing intent beginning to emanate from the Drunken Daoist.

The Drunken Daoist shook his head. "It seems your understanding of me is not deep enough."

"Back in the Era of Ten Thousand Cities, I was at odds with all the Daoist Sects. The lives I took were as numerous as the hairs on an ox, and they even gave me the moniker of the Killing Daoist."

"But every life I took belonged to a member of a Daoist Sect."

As he said this, the killing intent radiating from the Drunken Daoist became incredibly sharp.

He slowly stepped toward the Grand Elder, each footfall causing terrifying cracks to appear in the ground around him.

"There is nothing wrong with members of a Daoist Sect pursuing the ultimate Daoist Skill. But I never said that it should come at the cost of innocent lives."
