I Can Devour Monsters' SSS Talents

Chapter 414: An Old Case

"Yeah, why?" Lian answered calmly.

His hand was still on the door handle, but after hearing Commander Gareth’s name, he was no longer in a hurry to leave.

It had been a considerable amount of time since he had last heard that man’s name, and the fact that the professor suddenly mentioned him meant it had to be something important.

"They caught the person responsible for the border city incident." Aldric said in his usual cold and serious tone.

His hand also stopped on the handle.

There was only one person in the case of that city who could really be considered the main person responsible.

"They caught him?" He then asked with some surprise.

"A few weeks ago." The professor nodded and confirmed.

Lian turned completely toward him, more than ten months had passed since the border city incident.

It was not a short amount of time, but considering that the man had managed to escape from him and the security forces surrounding the area and disappear without leaving any clear trace, finding and arresting him was not a small matter.

Not to mention that this person had escaped many times before and had managed to stay hidden for several years.

It seemed the government and the Awakened Federation had decided to take this matter more seriously, probably because they were truly worried about what he wanted to create.

"Gareth personally told me that if you came back, I should tell you about this, apparently there is something he needs to discuss with you."

"With me?" Lian raised an eyebrow slightly.

"That’s what he said, he also has your number. He sent you a message. Reply to him directly." Aldric added after a short pause.

"Sure." The young Vorhelm thought for a few moments, then nodded.

This time he opened the door and left the office, and the door quietly closed behind him.

He had only walked a few steps away from the office when the memories of the border city returned to his mind.

That man with completely white eyes.

A voice that was sometimes so calm and logical that it was easy to forget its owner was a madman, and the next moment it would shake with so much excitement that it became clear something was very wrong inside that man’s mind.

Among all the people Lian had seen until then, he was one of the strangest.

A man who did not even have killing humans as his main goal, the victims were only raw materials to him, that man wanted to create.

More specifically, a monster from a new species of creatures, something that nature had never created, a creature that according to that madman himself was supposed to be the perfection of all creation.

Of course, he had managed to create something, but in the end, it was fortunately killed by him, and all his achievements were destroyed by him.

And it would not be wrong to say that the white-eyed man absolutely hated him and would probably do anything to kill him and get rid of his hatred.

Lian had managed to face him on the last day he was in that city, but the white-eyed man had eventually escaped.

And now he had finally been caught.

"So they weren’t doing nothing, at least." Apparently Gareth and the security forces had not given up the hunt during these nine months.

But the strange part of the matter still remained, why did that commander want to talk to him?

This should not have anything to do with him anymore, he was only a student who had gone there as part of a mission and had also completed his job.

Lian thought about this question for a few seconds, then shrugged, his phone probably had more information.

The rest of the way to the dormitory passed without any trouble, unlike before.

There was no Darren, and no one came forward to stop him, and a few minutes later, he finally stood in front of the familiar dormitory building.

He looked at it for a moment, then entered.

The hallway still had almost the same old smell.

The voices of students talking came from different rooms, and although many faces were unfamiliar to him, the building itself had almost not changed.

Lian went up the stairs, and a few moments later, he stood in front of the door to his room.

He opened the door and stayed there for a few seconds.

Two beds, two desks and closets, chairs, and even some of the things he had left on the desk nine months ago were still almost in the same place.

It was a small room and there was nothing special about it.

But after sleeping on the ground for a month, inside a tent, or not sleeping at all, and after all those hardships one after another, this room suddenly looked like the best place in the world.

A smile appeared on his face, and then without any ceremony, he threw himself onto the bed.

The mattress sank under his weight and his head rested on the soft pillow, he closed his eyes and silence filled the room.

There was nothing here that could cause him trouble, danger, or disturbance, he could completely relax without any problems and simply enjoy his time as much as possible.

But it also felt a little strange, he had never thought that simply relaxing in this small dormitory would become so enjoyable, it was really impossible to imagine what would happen to you the next day.

For a few minutes he really did nothing and only lay there, his body was no longer tired.

After returning from death and completing his first evolution, even physically, he was probably in the best condition of his entire life.

But his mind needed a few minutes of peace.

After that he turned his head slightly, the bed across from him was empty and Kain was not there, however, his belongings were still in the room.

A few clothes and pieces of equipment, so at least it was clear that he still lived here and should be somewhere nearby.

"Wherever he is, he should come back soon." Lian said quietly, he had probably gone out for some reason and it was not unlikely that he would return within a few hours.

A few more minutes passed.

Then he finally got up from the bed, now he had to check something that had been waiting for him for nine months.

He sat beside the desk and reached into the small cabinet next to it, and after searching for a while, he found his phone.

It was completely turned off, which was natural, the phone had been left without a charge for nine months and it made sense that the battery was completely empty.

He connected it to the charger and waited for a few minutes, when the small power-on symbol finally appeared on the screen, he leaned back a little.

A few seconds later, the screen turned on, the new date, the time, and then the notifications started appearing one after another.

There were many of them, but most of them were not personal, Lian had never had a large social circle.

There were not many people who regularly sent him messages, and after entering the Special Area, this had not changed much either.

All of his friends except Kain had been with him there, and he also had no contact with any of his family members except his uncle.

When he ignored the academy’s automatic notifications, only three names really caught his attention.

Ironsoul the Blacksmith.

Commander Gareth.

And Uncle.

"Uncle?" Lian looked at the third name for a few moments.

The first two were understandable, the blacksmith had made his armor, and it was now clear why Gareth was looking for him.

But his uncle? They did not have a bad relationship, but their relationship was not the kind where they regularly sent messages to each other.

He tapped on the message, and there was only one message, he checked the time it had been sent, nine months ago, and exactly on the same day he had entered the Special Area.

Lian’s eyes narrowed slightly, he also opened the exact time, the message had been sent almost at the same time he entered the Special Area.

The message was even shorter.

"Take care of yourself, the weather isn’t good."

That was it, there was no explanation and no other message, and even this message seemed unclear.

Lian looked at the screen for a few seconds, at first glance, there was probably nothing special about it, a family member could say something like this before a dangerous mission.

The fact that his uncle knew he was entering the Special Area was not strange at all, with that man’s position and power, it was natural that he could find any information about him.

But the tone of the message was strange, his uncle did not send messages like this, maybe now because of what had happened, he was trying to pay more attention to him so he could at least gain his affection.

But the part about "the weather isn’t good" sounded like a warning, this was part of the hidden vocabulary of the Vorhelm family that was used to give warnings.

It meant that things had happened that could put you in danger and that you should be careful.

And he also did not think his uncle would want to use a code to talk to him so that others would not understand, he only wanted Lian to clearly understand how serious the situation was.

"Interesting..." Lian whispered quietly.
