Chapter 516: Chapter 313: Sword Shatters the Mental Block, Plot Character Yuwen Baji (2)
With every word he spoke, Yu Zhou’s spirit seemed to recover. By the time he finished, he had suddenly become remarkably confident and relaxed.
Yu Zhou cupped his fist toward Yu Fei in a salute, then turned and left, flying off into the distance. He even laughed as he flew, picking up more and more speed!
Meanwhile, Yu Wen Baji’s complexion seemed to pale a shade, as if he were suffering from some kind of backlash.
Yu Fei was immensely curious. ’What is so special about Yu Wen Baji’s innate ability?’
Yu Zhou’s actions spurred many others in the Brotherhood to action. In an instant, nearly all the Grandmaster graduates from the Brotherhood—a bustling crowd of about a dozen people—surrounded Yu Wen Baji, each declaring they were severing ties with him.
With every word, the look of pain on their faces was almost impossible to hide, but the more they spoke, the more a sense of relief washed over them.
Even more dramatically, one of the girls started coughing up blood mid-sentence.
The scene was quite bizarre. Yu Fei stood at a distance, the edge of his Name-Cutting Sword resting on Yu Wen Baji’s vital point. The latter’s face was pale, his spirit drained.
Around him, a group of Grandmasters from the Brotherhood were gathered, all emotionally declaring their separation from him. At key moments, some would even spit out a mouthful of blood for dramatic effect.
The sight truly stunned everyone. Most of the spectating Martial Artists were quite baffled. ’He just failed a sneak attack, right? Why would that lead to everyone deserting him?’
Moreover, after severing ties with Yu Wen Baji to his face, these former Shenhan graduates who had just quit the Brotherhood fled as if being chased by dogs.
Yu Fei thought that would be the end of it, but unexpectedly, even the Brotherhood members among the ground troops—those who hadn’t yet reached the Grandmaster realm and were still at the Gang Qi level—began shouting from a distance.
Their voices were unified and clear. "Yu Wen Baji, your character is vile! You ambushed a junior... We are quitting the Brotherhood today..."
As more and more people quit the Brotherhood, Yu Wen Baji’s spirit withered, and his aura visibly plummeted.
Blood even began to trickle from the corner of his mouth as he glared at Yu Fei with pure hatred.
"Well, this is interesting. Xiaoji, I really don’t know what you did to be so despised by your own brothers that they’d sever all ties with you."
Yu Wen Baji’s innate ability was truly bizarre. Based on Jiang Nianwei’s description of the events and the mental changes everyone experienced after he defeated Yu Wen Baji, Yu Fei guessed it was some kind of method to control others through bullying—a completely unreasonable power.
And considering the backlash Yu Wen Baji was suffering today, this ability clearly had a major flaw: once he was defeated, his means of control would lose all effect.
Yu Fei looked down. Not everyone in the Brotherhood had quit. Seven members were still waiting resolutely for Yu Wen Baji. It seemed their loyalty was genuine.
With things having reached this point, it was obvious to everyone that Yu Wen Baji must have used some underhanded method. Otherwise, why would Yu Fei simply defeating him result in everyone abandoning him?
"Yu Fei, you bastard!"
A murderous glint shone in Yu Wen Baji’s eyes as he stared death at Yu Fei. He didn’t understand this was the backlash from his ability failing. All he knew was that after Yu Fei defeated him, his underlings had abandoned him one by one, and he felt as if his very spirit had been drained away. To him, it was all because of this detestable person before him.
Yu Fei paid no mind to Yuwen’s hatred. As if he hadn’t heard a thing, he spoke to himself:
"I recall we had a bet, didn’t we? It was for a five-year term, and it hasn’t been five years yet, has it?"
"What do you want?" Yuwen blustered, though he was terrified inside.
"Heh... Nothing much. Since I won, I just want to see the bet fulfilled. To be honest, I’ve hated your look for a long time!"
The words had barely left his mouth when a flash of pale green Sword Qi flickered past. Yu Wen Baji’s long, wild hair was shaved clean off, leaving only a neat buzz cut. With his level of control over Sword Qi, this was an effortless task.
"Yu Fei! You bastard!"
Yu Fei remained unmoved, his gaze only growing deeper. He withdrew his sword and took a step forward, stopping just three feet from Yuwen.
Unexpectedly, Yuwen immediately took several steps back, only then realizing how cowardly he had just appeared.
"I want to know who sent you to deal with me!"
Yu Fei didn’t use a Sound Wave Martial Skill for this. Instead, he deliberately kept his voice low, audible only to the two of them.
An unnatural, flustered expression appeared on Yu Wen Baji’s face.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Oh? Should I help you remember?" As he spoke, the hum of his sword rang out, and Yu Fei once again closed the distance to just three feet in front of Yuwen.
He could now clearly sense that Yu Wen Baji’s mind was extremely unstable and his will was scattered. ’This must be the backlash from his ability.’
The bone-chilling killing intent and terrifying aura made Yu Wen Baji feel as though he were trapped in a frozen lake. He knew something was wrong with his state of mind, but he couldn’t control it!
He gritted his teeth and said, "It was... Li Changmu!"
Once he said the name, Yu Wen Baji’s resistance crumbled, and he recounted the entire story from beginning to end.
"Li Changmu told me to test your strength. In exchange, he promised me an opportunity!"
"Li Changmu... who’s that? And what kind of opportunity?"
A hesitant look appeared in Yu Wen Baji’s eyes, but feeling the faint killing intent, he didn’t dare to take the risk.
"Li Changmu is a member of the Martial Arts Strategy Committee. He promised me a chance to enter the Divine Court!"
The more Yu Fei listened, the stranger it all sounded. ’What is all this nonsense?’
He had learned about the Strategy Committee in his general education classes—it was supposedly an institution that coordinated the defenses of the various border realms. But what the hell was this Divine Court? It had been over eight hundred years in the New Calendar. Who would still use a name like that for an organization?
"Tell me about the Divine Court in detail!"
Yu Fei’s tone was grave, but to his surprise, Yu Wen Baji, who had been cooperating so far, clammed up on this topic.
"I can only say this much. I can’t say any more!"
After speaking, he closed his eyes, awaiting his fate.
Yu Fei brandished the Name-Cutting Sword, pressing his almost tangible killing intent down on Yu Wen Baji. Yet, even as his face went pale and cold sweat beaded on his forehead, he remained stubbornly silent.
’Strange!’
’Comparing Yu Wen Baji’s behavior before and now, he’s just a petty thug who got lucky and rose through the ranks. His cultivation journey has been smooth sailing, allowing him to perfect the art of being arrogant, domineering, bullying the weak, and fearing the strong. He’s only come this far by relying on his decent cultivation talent and that bizarre mind-control ability.’
’In reality, he’s incredibly fragile on the inside. Once you pierce through his facade of strength, he’s pathetic. In terms of resilience, he’s far inferior to people like Fenghua and Jiang Nianwei.’
’But for someone like him to be too scared to reveal details about the Divine Court, even in the face of death... that speaks volumes!’
’Li Changmu, is it?’
Yu Fei murmured to himself, committing the name to memory.
"I have one more question. Answer it well, and we’ll call it a day. I’ll take the geniuses and leave, and I won’t interfere with your future affairs in the Celestial Sword Gorge camp."
Hearing this, Yu Wen Baji was stunned. He never expected Yu Fei to let him go. According to his own philosophy, anyone who defeated you had to be ruthlessly dealt with.
"Have you ever seen a person named Yan Sea?"
The traces of Ye Shuping’s arrangements on Yu Wen Baji were faint, but there was definitely a clue there!
"Never seen him!"
"What about Su Yue?"
"Her neither!"
’That’s strange.’ Yu Fei even began to suspect the guy was lying.
After a moment’s thought, he briefly described the two individuals. Yu Wen Baji’s face grew pensive. He contemplated for a moment before saying hesitantly,
"I heard the Celestial Phenomenon Corps is searching for someone. Apparently, someone stole an important item from their corps, and the thief is somewhere here in the Demon Mountain Realm. Their corps commander has deployed most of his forces to search for them in this realm!"
The moment he finished speaking, Yu Fei sensed the clue—the thread of destiny left behind by Ye Shuping—on Yu Wen Baji rapidly disappearing.
’That settles it! This guy is just a tool. One party is using him to test my strength, while the Old Man is using him as a mouthpiece.’
Yu Fei’s gaze toward Yu Wen Baji held a hint of pity. ’So this guy was just a plot device from start to finish!’
’What a fucking sense of déjà vu!’
"Do you have any contact with the Celestial Phenomenon Corps?"
Yu Fei pressed.
"Originally, Li Changmu and I had an agreement. I was to hold the front line, and the Celestial Phenomenon Corps, along with the Chenwu and Changqing, three B-rank corps, would come as reinforcements. They would encircle the enemy from the rear, annihilate all the Origin Devils, and then we would rebuild the Celestial Sword Gorge camp!"
"But I never expected you..."
He didn’t finish the sentence. He hadn’t anticipated that Yu Fei would lead the Celestial Pride Class from Matie Road, sweep across the battlefield, snatching up achievements and kills, and single-handedly accomplish a feat that should have required the coordinated effort of multiple B-rank corps.
Yu Fei’s spatial abilities were simply unstoppable. Combined with his terrifying Sword Qi, he held absolute dominance over the battlefield. He alone was an unstoppable army!
Just as they were speaking, both of them sensed something and involuntarily looked toward the horizon.
"They’re here."
The reinforcements had arrived late. A look of regret crossed Yuwen’s face.
