I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 177: Someone Will Die
This way, Evelyn Grant wouldn’t be able to leave the firm.
“Yes, keep her here.” Ryan Sterling sighed softly. “She’s simple-minded and soft-hearted. I wouldn’t feel at ease letting her work at another firm.”
“I understand!”
How could Mr. Shaw not understand his boss’s good intentions?
‘He only hated the fact he was a man! If he were a woman, he would have fallen hopelessly in love with Mr. Sterling! How could a man exist in this world who was so high-ranking, yet so deeply devoted?’
‘He was truly one of a kind!’
‘And Ms. Grant didn’t even cherish him. She actually wanted to run away!’
…
Evelyn Grant was, in fact, just barely holding on.
‘She had only one thought in her mind: finish her work, hand in her resignation, and then—’
‘—get far, far away from everyone and everything related to the Sterling Family.’
‘She didn’t want to be involved in the slightest!’
She was truly exhausted and filled with despair.
But just because Evelyn Grant’s mind was forcing her onward didn’t mean her body could take it.
She hadn’t even finished organizing a single file when her vision suddenly blurred. She couldn’t even see her own hands clearly!
Evelyn Grant instinctively tried to stand, but her feet felt rooted to the spot, refusing to obey.
The next moment, everything went black, and her consciousness faded.
She collapsed in front of her desk, completely still.
Fortunately, Mr. Shaw returned after his call and immediately dialed 911, getting her to the hospital.
After examining Evelyn Grant, the doctor turned and harshly scolded the man standing before him.
“Are you the patient’s supervisor? She just had a miscarriage, and you’re making her do such high-intensity work? Who could possibly endure that! No matter how busy you are, health has to come first! This is worker exploitation, pure and simple! You could get someone killed!”
Mr. Shaw nodded repeatedly. “Yes, yes, you’re right. I’m terribly sorry! How is she now?”
“She’s extremely weak! She doesn’t even have the strength to regain consciousness! Thankfully, her vital signs are stable, so her life isn’t in danger. But even so, she absolutely cannot work anymore! Women who’ve just had a miscarriage are at risk of hemorrhaging again! If that happens, not even a miracle could save her!”
After he finished speaking, the doctor shot Mr. Shaw another glare before turning and walking away.
‘He probably mistook me for some high-level executive who exploits his employees.’
Of course, Mr. Shaw couldn’t care less about that right now. All that mattered was that Ms. Grant was okay.
He glanced around. Seeing no one, he quickly pushed open a fire escape door and stepped through.
“Mr. Sterling, the doctor says Ms. Grant isn’t in any danger, she’s just very weak.”
“Mm.” Ryan Sterling took a final drag from his cigarette, then stubbed it out. He lowered his dark eyes. “I heard.”
He had been worried about Evelyn Grant, so he had been listening from behind the door the entire time.
But he didn’t dare show himself, afraid that she would see him and get upset.
“Sigh! But I can already guess what will happen. As soon as Ms. Grant wakes up, she’ll be clamoring to go back to the firm! There’s just no talking any sense into her!”
It wasn’t as if Mr. Shaw hadn’t tried to persuade her, but it had been completely useless.
“Then find someone she’ll actually listen to.”
Mr. Shaw froze. “Huh?”
Ryan Sterling looked down and gave him a phone number. “Have the hospital contact this number. Tell them Evelyn Grant has been hospitalized for exhaustion. Someone will come and talk some sense into her!”
“Okay, I’ll go right now!”
Alex Grant had just stepped out of the academic affairs office when he received the call from the hospital.
‘For some reason, the school had suddenly assigned two new mentor teachers to him. They said they were certain he could achieve great things for the school and wanted to focus on his development!’
