I Am Zeus
Chapter 416: Double Trade
They did not give Sera moment to turn the accusation into fog.
As quickly as the assignment result was sealed and the continuity fragment locked under joint watch, Zeus called for open confrontation in the station hall. Athena stood to his right. Hades at his left. The rest of the nine filled the space behind them in a hard line. Tohu remained present as residual authority. Jehovah’s supervision marked the chamber. Malakhiel received the report channel whether he wanted the mess or not.
Sera entered like one who had already priced the damage. "If this is theater, make it quick."
"It is accounting," Athena said. "You sold movement edges around us to more than one side. Buyers who want restart potential. Buyers who benefit if we are weakened or exposed. That ends now."
Sera looked to Zeus, not Athena. "You passed your controlled assignment because the board is still readable. Boards stay readable when someone keeps more than one account open. I extracted you, covered you, lost continuous claim and still remained useful enough to keep smaller predators predictable. That requires trade."
Poseidon’s grip tightened on the trident. "You sold us in pieces."
"I sold information about weather around you," Sera said. "Not your throats. If I had sold your throats, Black Star would not have needed to breach a hall by force. They would have walked a cleaner path."
Hades’s green light crawled under his skin. "You do not get to decide what count of betrayal is acceptable because the worst version has not happened yet."
Sera’s eyes flashed. "And you do not get to survive Continuum politics on purity. Purity is what dead claimants call their last mistake. I play many boards so I am not trapped on one."
Loki laughed once, thin and sharp. "That speech would land better if one of those boards had not just confessed you in front of us."
Sun Wukong rested the staff across his shoulders. "So what happens now? She apologizes with another market lesson and keeps all her keys?"
"No," Zeus said.
He stepped forward until Sera had to look directly at him. Residual force under his ribs remained low, but the continuity fragment in the sealed case at the center table pulled faintly towards both of them, as if aware the argument was about roads and ownership.
"You keep dispute standing because erasing you now would hide more than it cleans," Zeus said. "But your observers are pulled from our routes. Your access to operational movement drops to formal channels only. Any private market using our edges is treated as hostile action. If we catch another double trade, we do not argue. We end your standing."
Sera tilted her head. "You assume Jehovah will write that into law because you dislike my methods."
Jehovah’s answer came through supervision without delay. "He does not have to assume. Double trade around a residual restart carrier is a stability breach. Observers pulled. Private route access frozen. Standing reduced to formal dispute rights only. Violation ends those rights."
For the first time, Sera’s composure thinned by a fraction. Not fear. Calculation under a worse number than she had expected.
Tohu crossed his arms. "You remain alive on this board because you still know extraction markets and continuity side-routes. That is retained knowledge under watch, not friendship."
Sera recovered enough to smile with little humor. "Then congratulations. You have cut my hands and kept my mouth as a reference tool. Very House."
Athena did not let the jab land. "Better than letting you price our lives to both sides of a kill line."
The reduced terms were sealed in front of all of them. It was not revenge enough for Poseidon or Hades. It was not storage, either, which mattered more to Zeus than the pleasure of destroying her on the spot. Sera left the center floor with narrower power and a look that said the accounting was not finished forever.
Only after she was gone did the fragment case change.
The continuity glass had been pale and quiet since recovery. Now it woke in a hard clean flare, bright enough to make threshold marks around the table answer. Tohu moved first, residual authority raised. Jehovah’s supervision locked the chamber edges. The nine braced as the fragment projected a living direction mark into the air, not a full map, not a name, a pointer through Continuum layers towards a presence rather than a scrubbed scar.
Hermes stared. "That is not another empty node."
"No," Odin said. "That is a living intermediary."
The projection settled into a route signature and a seal of continuity intermediary status. Not the source behind seed language. A servant or station-keeper of the pattern. Reachable. Active. Waiting inside a band of ended-route territory that official maps treated as exhausted.
Zeus felt residual force rise to meet the pointer and forced it back under threshold before the flare could count against them. "The fragment was never only proof. It was a key to contact."
Athena studied the seal. "Rhen spoke of intermediaries. This is one."
Hades’s voice was rough. "If this intermediary serves the power that selected us, then it knows why the rest were left to die."
"Or it knows only the part it is allowed to know," Loki said. "Still better than another scrubbed courtyard."
Tohu looked to Jehovah. "Operational status held through assignment. Sera is reduced. This pointer gives the continuity search a live target instead of dead nodes."
Jehovah was silent for a breath longer than comfort. "One approach. Hard thresholds. No restart attempts on contact. If the intermediary tries to bind the carrier, withdrawal is immediate."
Zeus nodded. "We go to hear the truth, not to kneel."
Around the table, the nine looked at the living direction mark with different wounds and the same hard attention. Sera’s double trade had cost her reach. The controlled assignment had kept them on the board. Now the recovered fragment had given them the next step on the continuity road.
Not the chooser.
The one who stood closer to the chooser than anyone they had met yet.
Outside the station, Continuum traffic continued as if the board had not just shifted again. Inside it, the fragment shone against the glass like an eye that had finally decided to open.
