I Am Zeus
Chapter 408: First Relocation
The restricted wing only held them long enough for the new status to take paper form.
With the next approved cycle came relocation orders, edged in precision and devoid of ceremony. The nine were to leave the claim site under escort patterns, travel a marked Continuum corridor, and assume watch position at a secondary station some distance away from the breach zone. Not an exit, certainly not escape - a test of whether restricted operators could relocate without creating another public spectacle.
Poseidon studied the route the moment it was established, then scoffed."So we are trusted to walk in a straight line under supervision."
"you are trusted to remain useful while visible," Athena countered."That is different."
They departed in formation. Tohu took forward watch without naming it protection. Jehovah’s supervision hovered the transfer like a law rather than an occupying force. Sera did not ride along, a fact that deceived no one. If she could not claim the route, she would watch it. Malakhiel received the movement report before the first marking showed - and that, too, was no deception.
The corridor beyond the old wing was heavier than the cracked hall. Continuum traffic ran in layered currents; messengers, bound cargo, armored relays, and the distant imprint of powers that did not see fit to regard them. For the first time since extraction, the nine traveled an open upper-reality flow as named entities rather than concealed cargo.
Sun Wukong kept to Zeus’s side and muttered,"I almost miss the fog. Fog does not stare."
"Everything here stares," Hermes noted."Some simply possess better manners."
Kratos fell to Zeus’s right and said nothing. Hades lingered at the rear with Odin, the dull green light low in his skin. Loki observed the current patterns with thin interest, as if already calculating which eyes belonged to authorities and which were civilian.
Zeus felt the residual force shift the moment corridor density thickened, but it did not surge. It matched, slowly, oddly, like a compass needle finding a familiar pull. He kept his breathing even and did not reach for the power. After the practice room and the Black Star strike, he knew better than to let the flare paint a target.
Athena noted the change in his pace."Talk."
"The force is responding to something on the route," Zeus said carefully."Not an attack - a pull."
Tohu paused at the front of the formation without breaking stride."Residual echo. Continuum lanes store old marks if the force was strong enough where it passed. Do not feed it."
"I am not feeding it," Zeus said."It is feeding itself."
They crossed a junction where approved law thickened into a checkpoint of pale script. Escorts exchanged seals with local authorities. For a moment the nine stood exposed while Continuum functionaries marked them as restricted line by line. One watcher lingered on Zeus longer than the law allowed. Another assessed Hades and Poseidon as secondary risk. It all ended cleanly, brutally, and in full view.
Loki wore a smile without warmth."Inventory with walking privileges."
"Keep walking," Jehovah’s supervisory seal ordered through the route law, distant and precise.
They filed on.
Halfway through the span, the pull in Zeus’s chest took shape. Not pain, but recognition. The residual force was angling toward a side current off the approved corridor, a thinner line where traffic ran in broken, older patterns. No escort wanted them anywhere near it. The route markings urged forward, but the force pressed that direction with enough weight that Zeus’s steps hesitated.
Odin stopped at the same time."There."
"What do you hear?" Hades asked.
"Nothing," Odin said."A continuity scar. Old... deliberate... still alive."
Tohu raised a hand and halted the formation. His expression had shifted, annoyance gone, focus sharpened."That side current should be inert. If your force is responding to it, the continuity mark Ayin-Rash named is closer to active traffic than the deep indexes admitted."
Poseidon studied the thinner line."Are we ordered to ignore it?"
"Yes," Tohu said.
Zeus focused on the broken current and felt the residual power beneath his ribs shift again, quiet and certain. For a breath he felt the same distant impression from the surge and the breach fight, not invading, only acknowledging. Then an approved route seal burned hotter against the transfer law, pushing them onward.
"Later," Athena muttered."If we break the first relocation for a side pull, Malakhiel gets his excuse."
Zeus forced himself back into the marked path."Later."
The remainder of the transfer passed without incident. Ambush never came, nor did open confrontation. Only thicker Continuum traffic and the sensation of being watched. When they finally arrived at the secondary station, it proved a low fortified platform overlooking a crossroads of lesser routes, ideal for movement and no less monitored than the old hall. From its edge the nine could see upper-reality traffic flowing to depths that contained no sky.
Hermes leaned on the rail with both hands."So this is the new cage with a view."
"This is the board we forced," Athena said."Now we use it."
Tohu completed station watch seals and turned to Zeus."Your force responded mid-route. That is either a complication or a lead. After threshold checks, we will determine which."
Jehovah’s supervision marked the station once, a hard final impression. Restricted operators secured, movement logged, no surge incidents, no deviation.
After the higher presence faded, the nine stood together at the platform’s edge.
Hades spoke first, his gaze still on the direction of that broken side current. "It felt like being called."It felt as if we were being measured," Zeus said.
Sun Wukong smiled without pleasure."Good. Measuring is a two-way street."
Zeus kept his hand clasped until the residual pull had diminished to a low hum. The first relocation was complete. They were out of the breach hall, exposed but moving, and not at the end of any kill box.
They also knew the continuity mark was more than an impressed symbol in Ayin-Rash’s projection.
It could respond on a live route.
And if it could respond, it could be followed.
