Chapter 1246: Chapter 427: The White Bone Archway and the Director’s Call (5k)_3

He bit down on the Gatekeeper’s finger, severing it instantly, then dashed toward the other side without looking back.

After he had run seven or eight meters, he turned to look back and saw that the Gatekeeper only had one arm left, suspended in mid-air, while the rest of his body had vanished mysteriously.

Once the Gatekeeper completely disappeared, the light in the eye sockets of the skulls crowning the seven or eight-meter tall white bone arched gate began to dim gradually; after a few more seconds, the white bone arched gate also sank back into the ground and vanished.

As the white bone arched gate vanished, all the trees within a ten-meter radius had already withered and were eroded as if by insects. With a gust of wind, they crumbled into countless fragments and fell to the ground.

In the distance, Old Haorat’s heart was pounding wildly, his eyes were trembling, and he glanced back to find that a section of his tail was missing.

He didn’t feel any pain, nor did he know how it happened. Had he not noticed his tail suddenly feeling lighter, he might not have even realized it.

He spat out a finger segment and then took out his communication equipment.

“Did you capture all of that just now?”

“Alright, as long as you captured it, back it up immediately to make sure nothing goes wrong.”

A helicopter hovered nearby, as several people landed on the ground to take photos, collect samples, and do other tasks.

Old Haorat discreetly produced an evidence bag, placed the finger segment inside, and felt reassured.

Based on what he knew, if the person he saw was indeed the same person he had encountered before, then that person had committed crimes before. According to the Scorching Sun Department’s protocols, the individual’s DNA would definitely have backups, so a comparison would reveal whether they were the same person.

Sometimes, blood type tests might vary, but a segment of a finger—from blood to flesh, even the nail—allows for multiple samples to be taken multiple times to ensure accuracy.

Old Haorat watched the busy Field Agents and gazed at the ash-covered clearing, his expression grave.

He glanced at nearby agents, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.

“Minister Ye, there’s something that you need to be informed about immediately.”

Before long, the message came back.

The Minister of the Northeast Sunburst Sect had personally taken charge of the subsequent matters.

Even those who participated in the operation only knew that they didn’t catch the person, who had been devoured by a white bone arched gate emerging from the ground and vanished without a trace.

Old Haorat risked losing a section of his tail to retain a segment of the person’s finger.

This fresh finger segment was partially sampled for testing by the Northeast Sunburst Sect, with the remainder stored in a refrigerated box and sent to headquarters.

Upon seeing urgent preliminary results, the minister quickly recognized the gravity of the situation and didn’t dare gamble on whether the higher-ups would believe their test results, so he sent all evidence to headquarters directly.

A person who had previously committed a crime and had been captured and detained by the Scorching Sun Department.

Later they died, were cremated, and all procedures seemed impeccable.

Yet, evidence now proved that this person was still alive.

This proved that from the death certificate to the crematorium, if not completely flawed, at least parts were definitely problematic.

The crematorium that partnered with the Scorching Sun Department is not governed by local civil affairs, especially those handling key personnel and finances, who have no say from civil affairs standpoint. Such funeral homes or crematoriums can basically be considered units under the Scorching Sun’s jurisdiction.

Moreover, they play the pivotal role in processing remains, ensuring nothing goes wrong.

If something did go wrong here, it would imply numerous other issues might have occurred.

Like the prior incidents where bodies seemingly burned, yet instead of scattering the ashes into the ocean, they transformed into Ghosts, possibly even creating multiple spirits.

Old Haorat prudently withheld information about the finger, only directly liaising with the local section minister.

And those handling the tests didn’t even know the identity of the test subject; all they knew was to conduct preliminary tests as swiftly as possible, yielding matching results and nothing more.

Further in-depth testing, would require significant time.

As these matters unfolded, many people could not expect to leave work on time today.

Meanwhile, Wen Yan, who was still at home, heard the phone ring.

Wen Yan glanced at the caller ID, momentarily stunned.

Curator?

Curator!

Goodness, it was like a miracle, the Curator actively calling him!

Wen Yan quickly answered the phone, tentatively asked who it was.

“Hello? Curator?”

“It’s me.” The Curator’s tone was steady, lacking his usual casualness.

“Something happened?”

“Are you at home?”

“At home, yes.” Wen Yan responded immediately, then added swiftly: “Curator, let’s be clear, I haven’t been anywhere near our unit within five kilometers for days!”

“I’m not blaming you, there’s been an incident, I’m specially notifying you, stay away from the unit, not because you’d invite trouble, but if you came, you might find trouble.”

“What happened exactly? Are you all alright?”

“Everyone’s fine, Old Ice Warehouse is fine too, not sure what went wrong, there’s been some change here.

Until now, issues only occurred at night, but now they’re emerging before nightfall.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yan recalled that at night, the atmosphere at the Virtue City Funeral House seemed amiss.

He had witnessed once, the moment it was as if the Virtue City Funeral House transformed into another world, another time nearly falling in due to his trait.

“Is it where Old Wang is?”

“Yes, it appeared during the day this time.”

“That wasn’t a Domain, right?”

“Shouldn’t be considered a Domain, there’s a difference.”

Wen Yan understood, no wonder he seemed to have already fallen in, yet just like a screen freeze, returned again. Evidently that place seemed like a Domain, yet wasn’t a standard Domain.

“Understood, I won’t go to the unit. You all stay safe, if you need me, call anytime. Also, Curator, you can’t blame everything on me anymore, this time it’s got nothing to do with me.”

On the other side, the Curator hung up, pretending not to hear the last sentence.

He stood in the yard, glanced at the time; it was not yet six, and the sun hadn’t set.

He gazed at the few mountains behind the Funeral House, recalling past sensations. At that moment, the mountains seemed to become giants, and deep within the Funeral House, immense pressure surged abruptly.

After so long, this was the first time such a situation appeared in the daytime.
