I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 748 399: A Little Famous (2)
It wasn't just about procuring resources; they also had to work and earn money.
They had no other source of income. Unlike on Zexing, where they had plenty of evolutionary resources to sell, all the money for procuring resources had to be earned through their own labor.
Fortunately, there were plenty of job opportunities on the Public Planet. A Star God could apply for positions like market district security or inspection personnel. Those with less strength, at the Legendary level, could do errands and odd jobs. If they had a decent appearance, many service positions were also available.
Women could even go to the "Exotic Alien Charm" district and earn money by selling their bodies.
Ryo never encouraged this, but he didn't stop it either. For a small race like theirs, survival was difficult, and it was a desperate measure.
Although they didn't earn much, the Public Planet's main advantage was its safety. Ryo was already quite content with such a stable life.
However, what truly gave Ryo a headache wasn't the tedious, exhausting work and meager income, but the safety issues during their journeys to and from the Public Planet.
He was terrified of encountering Star Pirates!
Out of the water, his Sea Race were complete weaklings. What's more, among their entire group, he was the only Star God. If they were unlucky enough to run into Star Pirates, there was absolutely no chance of survival.
After many years of saving up, their planet had only managed to buy an old, second-hand Star God-level Spaceship. If pursued, there was no way it could outrun other ships.
Therefore, Ryo was on edge every time they traveled to and from the Public Planet.
But how could you walk by the river all the time without getting your shoes wet?
This time, their group had worked on a nearby Public Planet for a century, building up some savings and procuring a good amount of resources. Just as they were preparing to return to their home planet, they were targeted by Star Pirates!
"It's over!"
"It's over! It's all over!"
"There's even a Moon God-level pirate! We're dead for sure!"
Seeing the Star Pirates surrounding their spaceship, Ryo and his clansmen's hearts turned to ash. They couldn't even muster the slightest thought of resistance.
The power gap was simply too vast. Any resistance would be meaningless.
Now, their only hope was that these pirates would show some mercy and spare their lives after robbing them.
"All of you, stay in the ship and don't move. I'll go negotiate!" Ryo said, gritting his teeth.
As their leader and the only Star God in their group, Ryo stepped up at the critical moment.
He had already decided to offer all their possessions to buy their lives.
'If it comes to it,' he thought, 'I'll beg the pirates to spare my people on the ship. After all, I'm the only Star God worth plundering. The rest are just Legendary-level.'
Ryo shakily exited the spaceship, cupped his hands, and said, "Distinguished sirs of the Bag Race, please be merciful and leave us a path to live. We are willing to offer..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly saw a spaceship approaching at an incredible speed in the distance!
On the ship's hull, the words "Starry Sky Guard Team" were written in the cosmic common tongue.
"What is...?" Before Ryo could even react, he suddenly heard the surrounding Bag Race pirates let out a series of blood-curdling screams.
"It's an ambush!" the leading Bag Race Moon God cried out in alarm. But in the next instant, a young Nian Race man in a white battle robe appeared beside him and lifted him up with one hand.
Just as the Bag Race Moon God was about to fight back, the Nian Race youth deftly dislocated his four limbs and threw him into the spaceship behind them to be imprisoned.
Following closely behind the Nian Race youth, another group of Nian Race members, all dressed in the same white battle robes, rushed out.
This group moved with lightning speed, without a single wasted word. They charged forward and completely slaughtered the ambushed, screaming Bag Race Star Gods, then immediately plundered and absorbed them, collecting the spatial items from each body.
The entire process was incredibly swift, each step performed with practiced ease, as if they had rehearsed it countless times.
Afterwards, the group immediately returned to their spaceship. Before leaving, the young man in the lead glanced at Ryo, making him so nervous that the seawater in his brain nearly overflowed.
Fortunately, the youth quickly averted his gaze, swept his eyes over the dilapidated, second-hand spaceship behind Ryo, and returned to his own ship without a word.
With a WHOOSH, the spaceship bearing the large words "Starry Sky Guard Team" accelerated and vanished from Ryo's sight.
Ryo, having survived the ordeal, stood stunned for a long while before coming to his senses. He walked back to his ship with stiff steps, only to see his clansmen inside staring at him eagerly, the shock not yet faded from their eyes.
"Clan Leader Ryo, who were they?" someone asked.
Ryo frowned. 'Starry Sky Guard Team... I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before.'
He tried hard to recall, when one of his clansmen cried out in surprise, "I remember now! They're the Starry Sky Guard Team! I heard a customer at the shop talking about them. He was a Cosmic Merchant from a nearby Public Planet called Beta Star. According to him, the Starry Sky Guard Team wiped out all the Star Pirates around Beta Star, so it's exceptionally safe to travel there now!"
With this reminder, Ryo and several others also recalled hearing the name "Starry Sky Guard Team" from some off-world customers recently.
It was said that this group despised evil, specializing in fighting Star Pirates. They were also incredibly strong and had mysterious origins.
"The Starry Sky Guard Team has come to our area too? That's great! We probably won't run into any Star Pirates for a while!"
"Let's head back now and come out again as soon as possible. We should take advantage of this safe period and hurry back to the Public Planet!"
The group of Sea Race members were all invigorated. In their eyes, the Starry Sky Guard Team were practically their guardian deities.
